Someone should start a petition to the UK government to have the Ultimate declared a national treasure. This may allow money to be given to keep up the maintenance and operations of the coaster even if it requires an up-charge at lest its still operating!

@@ThemeParkWorldwide I spoke to a supervisor today and mentioned the Ultimate. Apparently it ran 10 times over the winter but parts have now been taken from it so it can't physically operate. He thinks it's unlikely it will ever run again. A shame. Otherwise a great visit to the park today with a couple of 8 year old - they had a fantastic day

@@steveb5346 not sure but then old owners managed to get parts from somewhere or custom fabricated but the generator for the ride was taken out a while ago apparently so they must have hooked one up to test it a few times and there must be a reason even if it was to keep it in some form of order when they decide what 2 do with it

I think losing both of the good coasters in this park is a huge mistake, even if they are focusing on the younger crowds. The Ultimate is a classic and the indoor coaster was a lot of fun.

I agree because I think that The Ultimate is the best coaster the world has seen. However both times I visited Lightwater Valley, I saw the following which angered me: Sign was removed and the station was abandoned, rotting track and overgrown grass. I'm pretty sure the trains are in horrific condition too

The ultimate was costing the park £100,000 pounds a year when it was closed and even more when it was open. They just couldn't afford the maintenance

As in, deliberately leaving it to rot and get to the state where they'd have an excuse to trash it. They're not legitimate owners, just idiots and vandals who should never have been allowed anywhere near the park.

​@@Aphisics With how unceremoniously they did it (and on top of everything else they've done), though, I genuinely wouldn't put it past them to do something like that. Like, on the one hand, I get that Lightwater Valley's supposed to be a "Family" park now. But did they have to take the American Adventure approach and strip out literally everything (The Ultimate, Raptor Attack, etc.) that appealed to those over the age of 5 and replace them with bargain-bin fairground rides? The Eagle's Claw is just about the only thing left that's about the level the park used to be, and even that was originally slated to get the axe back in 2021.

Great vlog! I disagree about Eagles Claw leaving as they’ve lowered the height restriction from 1.4m to 1.22m for the 2022 season and the ride still gets very popular on busier days. It serves as a first big thrill ride for the under 12s! You’d be surprised how many kids give it a go and love it!

I visited here a few years ago and all of the thrill rides like raptor attack and the wild mouse were amazing and so much fun for such a small park, it's such a shame how much it's changed now but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do

It’s good to see that the new owners are moving the park in a positive direction. From the reports I’ve seen of the park previously (I’ve never been…), it always looked like it was struggling to find a cohesive identity that they could really deliver upon. By the look of things, that’s starting to change now. I was impressed with what I saw in this vlog. I hope they find success with it.

If they're looking at doing a more modern coaster for the indoor space where Raptor Attack was, I think a Preston & Barbieri Anaconda 2.0 (ala the _Sea Viper_ at Palace Playland in Maine, USA) could be a good shout, provided it's small enough. Those are pretty compact. but with lots of steep drops and twists (and a helix, I'm sure you'll be pleased to know!) in a still family-friendly package, which I think would especially be a lot of fun to do in the dark. Have that alongside a re-opened (or remade, depending) Ultimate, and you're laughing! EDIT: Just seen that you uploaded this particular Vlog on my birthday, nice!

Went last year and found the height restrictions silly. My daughter was 95cm and couldn't go on the balloons! I will also say the eagles claw is the most insane ride I've been on. Without the extra belt clip that you get on maelstrom you always feel your gonna fly out the seat!

hey shaun, i visited towers yesterday and got on nemesis, galactica, thirteen, rita and oblivion all before 12pm all with 0-5 minute queues. only had to wait 45 mins for spinball and wickerman after that, and ended the day with a 100 minute queue for the smiler but glad i did because it was my first ever ride on it. Had an amazing day

Wow, it’s changed so much since the last time I was there. Back in ‘91 and it was the day the ultimate opened. A little walk away was The Rat. It didn’t have so many coasters or thrill rides but it was a great family day out. I used to love the moon buggies and karts. I’ve also got a feeling they had motorbikes as well. I always wanted to go in the ultimate but was chicken when it opened and never been back since.

Great update, we were going to travel up to lightwater valley to ride the ultimate but we’ll give the park a miss if it’s still SBNO. Such a shame as we never got to ride it. Will do flamingo land and fantasy island instead.

When I went to lightwater valley a few years ago I was honestly too scared to go on eagles claw, I wish I did it because since then I have ended up as a big theme park enthusiast having been on every coaster at Alton towers, I've since done spring break at ocean beach pleasure park and I love the 'claw' ride type but next time I visit lightwater valley it'll probably be gone, I really should have done it

I have two children both under 12 who love rollercoasters/ thrill rides. I'm not sure why Lightwater Valley thinks children don't want thill rides. Poultons and Drayton seem to have the right direction, sadly there just isn't enough at Lightwater Valley to justify going

I remember travelling up from Norfolk in my campervan around 1994/5 just to get to ride The Ultimate. A friend and myself had a great day out and I remember us getting repeated rides on this the second longest coaster in the world. How sad now that it sits idle and out of use. I hope it’s not demolished and that perhaps one day it could, just could, reopen. I remember the ride was rough but my goodness through the trees after both lift hills was amazing!

Went loads of times as a kid in the 90's and it was local and great, went last summer with my wife and 12 year old daughter. We were all bored to tears after 30 minutes because there isnt any rides other than the ones you would see at a local travelling funfair yet they chage theme park prices

I have not been here since I went with the school over 25 years ago. I took my 4 and 9 year old on Saturday and we had the best day ever! Perfect for the ages and didn’t even manage to do everything despite being there from opening to closing - they really need to keep it open for longer. 5pm close is too early x

I’d have said this park has always been more family oriented, it only ever had a few “thrills”. The Ultimate, The Rat, Black Widows Web, Eagles Claw and a few others. Even as a kid, those were my favourites, so it seems an odd decision to steer away from those and bring the whole park down to young kids level.

You should do the zip world Bounce Below in wales, its the same thing as the nets but in an underground cave thats like 50m tall with loads of levels and slides :)

Most important thing is that the park survives. "Family day out" feels more like a salvage operation than anything else. Parks like Efteling prove you can have a fantastic family experience whilst still pushing ride quality.

The number of changes here are surprising, even though I did already know about their plans for the future. I was surprised to see the Hungry Harbour closed. I have a funny story about that place. I ordered the spicy chicken nuggets last time I was there, hoping they'd be mild like southern fried or something like most are. Nope! They were *hot*! I muscled through 3 of them before thinking it seemed a bit much. I asked my parents to try, and my Dad said they were too much for his taste. My Mum wasn't a fan, and the friend I was with at the time took one bite and noped out. They were all surprised I had managed to eat 3, and my spice threshold is not super high by any means.

I was there in my teens when the big coasters they had was the Soopa Loopa & The Rat. I went over ten years ago with my own kids so got to ride The Ultimate & The Rat again as Raptor Attack which was cool. Its sad because now my kids are older there is very little if anything of interest to us now.

As on of my my home parks, I miss when it was it it’s prime for thrill rides, in 2010-2015 when they had rides like whirlwind, black widows web, black Pearl etc. However as long as the ultimate stays, I will be happy! Eagles claw is definitely going soon which is a shame but it’s okay!

Great park, we’ve been recently with the kids and was an excellent day. Doubt The Ultimate will reopen, Raptor Attack was indeed one of the best coasters in the UK. First ride it as Rat Ride in my youth!

I think they should absolutely re-open the ultimate! As the oldest cousin who often got dragged to family events at younger themed theme parks it's the perfect "break away from your family for a ride" ride! Hopefully it gets a little bit of TLC that it needs so it can reopen for those older riders that visit the park! Many good memories on the ultimate, let's hope it's a decision they make. Also I didn't realise they had removed raptor attack! That was my favourite inside dark ride ever ever!

Seems to me that Lightwater valley just wanted to save money, because no one can tell me they're getting rid of a small rapid slide for being "too thrilling" and not being family friendly enough. The ultimate was a money-consuming monster in maintenance. I love the fact that I once rode him 5 times on my UK trip. But now I don't see why I would pick out Lightwater valley after being such a small little park with no really good rides. Such a shame that this is the 2th park that I wouldn't go back to after Drayton manor from being my favorite in the UK, to not even having a chance to be on my to do list for my next UK trip. They were such good parks... Good memories here in Belgium from this park. Thanks for this video.

I have mixed emotions on what I think of light water valley, from what I see in your video, it’s lovely they are really trying to make it a pretty family park, the new areas look like and they have really tidied up other areas, however I’m still not sure if going family friendly will work, paultons tried to stay like this but saw visitor numbers tumble, when they started to put in more thrilling and bigger family rides and coasters, it’s done wonders for the park and the park is thriving Every park needs a signature ride and at the moment, light water doesn’t have anything like that, that’s why I really wish they could renovate and reopen the ultimate, it will be give them that star attraction the park needs and still bring in the crowds, if they have to do some serious work and redo a lot of sections of track(maybe redo the second part of the layout)to make it smoother then so be it, or if they are not going to reopen the ultimate, they need a really good family style coaster that’s going to get people to come back well into the future

I visited fantasy Island on Wednesday rapids were descent Charlotte gonna be fine only a light sprinkle but queue was quite long and was very slow only running 2 boats member of staff told me its been having a few issues

Very strange decision to remove Ultimate. Record holder for longest in Europe, second longest in the world, a great ride, and it’s being removed? Bizarre.

Not really a strange decision. It was a unique ride but it required a lot of maintenance, was rather outdated in many respects, and has been SBNO for a long time, and maybe was even a bit of a burden to the park in some ways. Obviously people loved it for it’s uniqueness and wild ride but it’s not hard to see why the park gave up on it and it maybe take a fair bit of investment to get it operational again.

I wish Merlin had decided to invest in Lightwater Valley, it has load of unutilized space and could become a huge attraction in the centre of the country, and more accessible from the north that any of there current offerings.

I dont know if anybody noticed it looks like the ultimate lift hill stars have had work done on the right hand side? They looked like fresh wood near the bottom compared to the top. They need to get this classic coaster open soon or if not scrap it and remove it which would be sad.

Great vlog! What happened to Black Pearl? Was it carefully dismantled to be sold to another park or operator in the UK or overseas? Or was it scrapped? Hopefully, it was saved like Raptor Attack!

I can confirm The Ultimate is being kept at least mostly free from overgrowth, there is a bit of it in the layout but otherwise its not overgrown even in the wooded bit. One thing though, the ride was powered by 2 generators, which have both been removed. So they'd need to buy/hire generators again as a first step to getting it running again, sadly. The Raptor Attack queue/building being left empty and abandoned is a travesty really. Such a shame.

I’m hopeful that Eagles Claw will be staying. It was actually removed from the park map last year whilst the ride was apparently listed for sale, but the fact that it’s back in the map and has had the height restriction lowered is a very promising sign. Still find it bizarre though that pirate boat, The Flying Cutlass, is a 1.4m ride though, those things are always lower. What the park desperately needs though is a new family coaster to replace Raptor Attack/The Rat.

For the 2023 season, Flying Cutlass has been changed to 1.1m

I found a comment from the Brighton pier group saying if they can do something with the ultimate they will - maybe this hints at a future?
