Researching airfoil design because I would like to build my first ever own RC plane and I love the idea of slow flying and the challenges it poses. Got here from your comment in some forum I found while googling. This is beautiful!

The main ingredient for "on the wing" slow flight is light wing loading, maximize wing area and minimize weight. I'll be glad to help you with your first RC plane build on RC Groups, here is my blog page: www.rcgroups.com/forums/member.php?u=325411

@@av8153 I do now. I built a handful of Flite Test planes 5 years ago but liked them so much I couldn't bring myself to fly them. Now I'm flying them and having a blast. I built a GWS Slow Stick and loved it. Searched out slow flyers. Eventually found my way here. Great stuff! Can not wait to build one like the one featured here.

@@GregBabineau Here is the RC Groups thread with plans for both a 60" version and the 40" version : www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?2055551-60-wingspan-Old-Fogey-ish-now-with-PDF-plans The main ingredient for slow flight ( minimum stall speed ) is keeping it as lightweight as possible . If you build one , I'd love to see the result !

@@av8153 Thank you for the link! Looks pretty straight forward to build. Almost done with a FT Simple Cub. Printed plans for the Explorer and Cruiser. After those builds I'll be tackling either the 40 or 60 inch version. Haven't decided which yet. Leaning towards starting with the 40. I'll keep you in the loop.

@@av8153 The Slow Stick flies amazing. Long flights. Easy to control. OK in light wind. When other planes are frustrating me I can bust out my FT Flyer and cruise around in relaxed high alpha fashion. A FT-22 was not long for this world. I managed to chuck it four or five times before it was too beat up to attempt another launch. I kept trying to use the rudder and of course the FT-22 has no rudder so that wasn't working so well. My FT Simple Soarer is a joy to fly. Hates wind. But when the wind is light it's a beauty. I had an under powered setup with no down thrust. I've switched out the motor and prop for a more powerful combination and set it up for 5 degrees of down thrust. Fingers crossed I made good decisions. Waiting for good weather to try the modified plane out. I had a FT Versa Wing that lasted exactly one chuck. It wasn't built well. It wasn't balanced well. I am not well trained in flight. All of that showed in the very exciting 3 seconds of life the Versa Wing experienced. I had built it as a pusher and I plan on rebuilding it as a tractor. My pride and joy is a FT Spitfire (the older FT Spitfire model). I maidened it but had the rudder backwards. Chucked it three times before I figured out the rudder was backwards. I was so concerned about the fourth channel aileron control that I failed to pay enough attention to the rudder. It amazes me that I would bring a plane to the field with a control backwards. I will do it again in the future I'm sure. I already knew that you should check such things. I guess I needed to learn the lesson the hard way. Sigh. Once I got the controls squared away I was able to launch the Spitfire a couple more times before a crash knocked the elevator servo out of commission. I feel like I will be able to fly the Spitfire when I get it squared away. I am working on getting experience with the Soarer, Slow Stick and Flyer. Managing intentional patterns. Flying towards myself. Controlled high alpha landings using throttle to control height and elevator to control speed. Having a blast exploring both building and flying. I have a FT Delta waiting to maiden and a FT Baby Blender that is built but without electronics. Last week I built a 200% FT Flyer. It did fly. My jaw dropped. What a thrill. Too impractical a beast though. I tried to get fancy and do a low pass and crashed the nose into the ground breaking the motor mount. Probably won't rebuild it. Super fun experiment and I learned a ton doing the 200% build. I think that covers where I'm at.

Then transfer the plans to Dollar Tree Store foam board . To save weight , spray the paper skins with alcohol .... then peel the paper skins off . I see you have dyhederal instead of polyhederal so how much dyhederal did you put in the wings. I also see you put 2 bends to create the curvature of the wing instead of one so where did you put the bends?

The only requirement for slow flight is light wing loading ( overall light weight relative to wing area ) . If you make another one , just make it as light as possible and with a lot of wing area .
