We're all guilty of this self-serving antidote to feel good.
@kevinbrislawn5918

As a people we are all pretty much in the "guilty" category of trivializing our personal sin our personal willingness to lie, cheat or steal because we think we're immune to consequences and post modernist thinking conveys to us.." ahh so what I think I'm still okay" and pass it off. I know I'm guilty I know many in my church are guilty..it's how we process all this in terms of good biblical grounding to understand when I feel as if I know the answer and I truly don't. I have to go to the Word to seek God personally and seek forgiveness from him and not pass on judgment to others or my background etc.

How long has Western Churchianity been Semi Pelagius? We just have to put on the FIG LEAVES because even the regenerated may be deluded by the subtle subconscious way we are offended by the Cross. Deism means that you basically worship another god, the god of the Enlightenment. Humanism comes in a whole variety of ways.

You go to most places called churches and very rarely will you hear Christ and His accomplished redemption and His atoning work and imputed righteousness preached. It’s always about man-centered, moralistic, therapeutic, deism.
@oron61

Who needs to become a legitimately better person when you can assume your own goodness by believing the right stuff? Christians and the Pharisees both can impute righteousness of themselves while preying on widows, while those who actually do righteousness are sent to hell for joining the wrong church. So much for being paid according to your works.

@@justbecause9219 Exactly. It's imputed instead of real. It only really exists in Jesus. The righteousness within you only exists on paper; it no longer produces any demonstrable good works beyond those of the pagans today. You don't do good works. You call your filthy rags good works because you think you've tricked your god to thinking they are instead of receiving power from your god to do real good works. That's why you beat your wives more than agnostics and make up most of the incarcerated population.

The American Church is exceedingly ill. An Osteenite told me that you can go elsewhere if you want to hear about the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. She’s heard it, knows it, and doesn’t need to keep hearing it! To sum it up, preaching is directed toward what the peoples’ felt needs are, rather than God directing the content. I had a pastor would would go on a yearly retreat to the beach to find out what God wanted him to preach on for the year. At the same time he put out a box soliciting sermon topic suggestions!

Former diehard fundamentalist here. I love my Christian brothers and sisters. But I think a lot of you have been seduced by this unhealthy compulsion to control other people's thoughts, and even control God by making Him say what you want Him to say. The deist just accepts that God is reflected in nature and beauty. The more specific your theology gets though, the more human error starts to enter in. Doctrine is man-made, and can always deceive you - but nature cannot be faked. None of this has to rule out morals, either. I am a deist, and VERY right-leaning socially and politically. In my personal/private life, I strive to do the right thing BECAUSE IT IS RIGHT - not because I'm afraid of going to hell or anything like that. I know many Christians reading this will probably conclude that I am just another godless heathen who's never cracked open a Bible. If you only knew my friends - if you only knew.

God is the clockmaker. He made a clock in a way that he does not have to interfere in everyday affairs. More current modern-day analogies will be video games and virtual reality programs. The programmer is simply beyond the rules of the game, just like a programmer cannot be part of the game, and the rules of the game do not apply to him.

"The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth" (John 1:14). If God didn't reach down through the division of heaven and earth to meet with us, where else would we find hope?

Mchristr, some people ONLY find hope in strict Christian doctrine - and I honestly respect that. But you can also find hope in nature, in beauty, in your relationships with loved ones, and in the very wonder of existence itself. I believe that all of this honors God. In fact we can find God in these very things.
