Cluedo was invented and published in the UK in the 1940s. At the time one of the most popular games around was called Ludo (from the latin 'I play')in the UK, so the publishers, John Waddington, decided to call it Cluedo as a nod to this game. Later, Parker Bros bought publishing rights for the US. However Ludo was known as Parcheesi there so the pun wouldn't work, hence 'Clue'! You're welcome 😃
