They were canon sweethearts to a degree, but they could never have stayed canon as a longterm romantic pairing. No shade to Sun, but look at his interactions with Blake from the start without rose-tinted glasses, and it's clear they weren't endgame. He doesn't understand Blake intuitively, they aren't on the same wavelength. Their interactions are, from the start, Sun asking questions that Blake has to explain because he doesn't get her. He struggles with her boundaries and he blunders a lot in ways that might be cute and funny to look at from the outside but don't lend themselves well to a functional relationship. He's not a bad guy, far from it, and he was important for Blake's growth as a person. But a romantic relationship between them was never going to work. I mean, can you really imagine Sun and Blake as an old married couple? It would be depressing and lonely at best because the fact is Blake has a lot of deep thoughts and strong opinions that Sun just isn't capable of intuiting. That, on top of the issues regarding boundaries? It wouldn't have gone well longterm. The fact is, that what they have in the show, was the best possible outcome for them. They were akin to a highschool fling. It was cute, and there was some interest on both sides, but it was never going to last because at their core Blake and Sun are not compatible romantically. Though they do make good friends, so it's very lucky for them that they now have a friendship that will last a lifetime.

@ I see your points, But I also think these things are what makes them more suited for each other then the canon one. They ACTUALLY have struggles a normal couple would have. Realizing “ hey this person is not just some girl/boy I met that I liked, but someone that’s just gotten out a abusive relationship and hurt more than they’re letting on. How do I help them?” They also get over these struggles for a better and closer relationship. Sun is immature in some ways (to me) and he learns to mature and be serious in situations because he realizes how deep her trauma is and it’s not just gonna go away from a Pat on the back. It’s the fact he’s willing to take her insults and still tell her “ no matter what I’m here” is what I liked about the pairing. Blake has only run away from her problems in life and Sun was the first annoyance she couldn’t run away from. He doesn’t understand boundaries at times but that’s again a product of his own past. He’s free spirited and emotionally stable unlike most people in RWBY, he doesn’t run from his feelings and embraces them. He’s the polar opposite of early Blake. I also feel so strongly about their pairing because you have two opposites that compliment and make each other better like Sun and Blake ( Blake teaches him to mature and respect people’s boundaries as well as keeps him serious) and ( Sun showed Blake that life is not all about being serious and thinking about the past, he gets her to laugh smile and do something out of shell. He shows her he’ll always be there no matter how much she pushes him away, hence the song: like morning follows night ( I think that was the name my bad if not) But they then paired her with Yang and now you have two seriously hurt (mentally) people that understand each other because they were hurt by the same person, but that just doesn’t meet my expectations the same way the other ship does. They got hurt by the same person so they’re suddenly on the same page mentally? And this unity would last them into a long relationship? It just felt like two bisexuals who were sexually attracted to each other got a sudden reason to get together because they both came across the same jerk in their friend group . I also don’t like how part of the reason they got so much romantically closer has to do with guilt on Blake side for the reason her friend lost her arm being her ex. Personal opinion and I respect it if you have another perspective on this.

Thank you, that was my thinking as well. Bad Luck Charm was also trimmed down significantly for the official release compared to the version in the episode. I was actually trying to edit the instrumental parts back in for it too, but it wasn't really working, and i saw that other people already did it anyway.
