Puff told the driver to blow the light at the last second. The shooting happens and the driver keeps flooring it, despite Gene Deal (who was sitting behind Puff telling him to turn around. Once the shooting ended Puff got out the car and ran to Big's car while Gene (Puff's bodyguard) and the driver drove after the shooter, but every time they would get closer the car's gas supply would cut off because it had a chip which would act as a fail safe if it went over a certain speed limit (in the 90s that model had a high rate of accidents so the chip was put in as a precaution). By the time it started up again the shooter was already up the hill, made a turn then was gone. As all of this is happening Big's car is still at the light with Cease and the others trying to wake him (he doesn't say it in this video, but in Behind The Music Cease said Big was slumped over, had a shocked look on his face, then his eyes rolled to the back of his head). Once Gene and the driver got back to Big's car that's when they drove around to find a hospital while on the phone with 911. As they got him out the car, Gene realized he was dead when he noticed Big's pants ere soiled (voided his bowels). After reading Big's autopsy there's no way he would've survived, even if he was shot in front of the hospital. If 3 of the 4 bullets hit he would've lived. I hope this clears some things up.
