I do not follow a religion, I would rather respect the living. But the only reason Satan would seem 'more accepting' is because all you have to do is give into any or every temptation that human beings typically fall to and he'd be thrilled. Now I'm not meaning that being gay/lesbian or anything like that is a temptation. But Satan doesn't require anything of you. You make it seem as if God's 'not accepting' simply because people have to actually earn and put effort into being apart of God's kingdom, rather than just giving into all of their negative temptations and being embraced by the devil. If there really is a God, and he really did sacrifice his son for human beings, than I think it makes perfect sense that we'd have to earn that right to be embraced into Heaven. I certainly don't agree with the way homophobic religious groups come across and the tactics they've used to shame and put down people. I think it's gross. But I also don't think God's less accepting simply because we have to follow some guidelines in order to earn our place.

Obviously murderers aren't getting into heaven, but I'd say it's pretty hard to immediately be rejected by heaven. A music video or a lap dance isn't going to send you to hell. The entire point of the music video was to focus attention on how huge of a focus sexuality is in Christianity, and maybe the video was a bit extreme, but it got attention and it started a conversation. I'd say that's a win. Yes, the churches are beginning to be more accepting, but it's still a huge issue, especially with churches where the majority of people are older.

Many metal bands have explicitly satanic imagery and never get questioned. There technically actually was a political movement against metal but that was a long time ago and metal is slowly being normalized as mainstream. In contrast, people criticize rap all the time for sexism and gloryfing drug use as if white people don't do that literally all the time. And it's seen as counter-culture. Often times all music made by black people vaguely resembling rap/hip-hop is shoved under an "urban" label in music awards which is just a polite way of saying "black people music". It doesn't get acknowledged the same way even though millions of non-black people are huge rap fans. Just a giant double standard

Also the text is ancient greek! It's a nod to Plato's Symposium, stating "after the division the two parts of man, each desiring his other half." Plato believed that same-sex love was blessed by the Gods (as did many Greek citizens) and is referencing the mythology of soul mates, where originally humans had 4 legs and 4 arms. Zeus feared our power in this fearsome form and split us in half with lightning, condemning us to a lifetime of searching for our other half. This text has been used to show that same sex relationships have historically been accepted and even actively promoted in other cultures. Basically, gay people have been doing their thing since the very conception of our species and the world, notably, hasn't been engulfed in flames or plunged into eternal darkness.

In the last section there's Latin on the floor in Satan's chamber that says "Damnant quod non intelligunt" which translates to "They condemn what they do not understand." About metalheads disliking hiphop (and vice versa most of the time tbh), my guess would be that it's basically like having two obnoxious little brothers both fighting for attention. Both genres emerged from places of hardship where being counter culture was the way of breaking through the noise, but they both did it in their own way. So yeah, I'd say that it comes down to the two communities being loyal to their own culture and not being able to zoom out enough to see how much alike they really are. Personally, I'm gay and I love both genres for the simple fact that they embrace their misfit status. Sadly my whiteness prevents from moving to the hiphop beats without looking like a fool though, so I'm sticking to headbanging :D Thanks for an awesome reaction video, and for your openness!

I'm a metalhead, and I love this song! I love it because it has a deeper meaning, it's personal, it's emotional, it has a purpose. So it invokes the same feelings in me that most metal does. I think a lot of metalheads don't like hiphop because a lot of hiphop songs seem superficial, but you can turn around and say the exact same thing about a lot of metal songs. No hate here. Any real metal fan can appreciate a good song regardless of genre.

Hey! Someone that loves metal here and I completely agree with you! They say that rap and hip-hop is all about drugs and money with no context but most metal is as well. You have amaxing metal songs with amazing lyrics and storylines, but the same goes for rap, hiphop etc... I loved the message of this video and the song is catchy as well. Sadly there isnt enough representation but with this video I do feel like a new door has opened for people to really show who they are. As a fan of both hardcore metal and hip hop, most metalheads love hip hop as well. There are some that only like certain subgenres of hip hop that contain metal influences (think $uicideboy$, Ghostemane, etc). I’ve heard a lot of metal fans praise Lil Nas X for what he is doing with this video and with the “Satan Shoes” thing, saying it’s turning to the Church’s antagonistic nature back on itself. The video is radical acceptance of one’s sexuality, regardless of whatever fate they may meet because of it. As a 19 year old bisexual male who lives in a conservative town and has been bullied in the past for his sexuality, Lil Nas X is a gorgeous person and a HUGE influence. Also, if you read this, I would like to thank you so much! This reaction was amazing! I’m definitely gonna watch more!
