Is the Sony a7iii still worth it in 2021? In this Sony review I want to share my experiences: the good, the bad, and maybe even the ugly? I wish I had a flip screen but a camera monitor will do! The videos out of this camera still looks AMAZING!!! Great question! I haven't used the a7c so I can't speak from experience but I think it's a great contender. From what I've read and heard the a7iii is a bit better but not significantly. I wish I could answer your question better but I honestly don't really know! The a7iii and a7c are very similar I think. More importantly... what are you looking for in a camera??

It’s a fantastic camera for that, and arguably better than the newer cameras with a flip screen. A tilt screen is a lot easier when you’re operating the camera (in my experience)

Good long term review, (not for me though is Ive got other Sony’s!) quick tip though, when shooting high frame rates unless you need the audio use S&Q mode as it gives better quality :-)

Great insight. I like the tilt feature on the screen if you’re doing handheld behind the camera stuff. On the a7c it is kind of weird to look to the left while trying to move forward or whatever you are doing off to the side. I do the same thing with my memory recalls too. A7c has 3 so i also set a time lapse memory at 1fps. Great job. Do you have the sony mic you mentioned? I have been interested in learning more about it but havent seen many reviews

Yeah that’s a good point! If you’re mostly doing camera work I think having a tilt screen is easier to use than a flippy screen. I don’t personally have that mic but I have some friends who have one. I don't need A7III (I have a7rIV) but it was interesting nonetheless. It's true for other 'older' camera basically as well.

What about autofocus on Sigma and Native lenses? DO they have bouncing party as well or is it just tamron?

I haven't used sigma lenses but I do have native sony lenses. I haven't used them in the cases where the Tamron started hunting, so let me try that and get back to you if you want to!

Its still a great camera, love mine. No idea why KZbinr's think they need $2k full frame cameras and fast $1500 primes to shoot themselves sitting in their house, we don't care lol. You can literally use an iPhone for these videos and no one would care. Just a thought.

I'm curious. Why is your video settings selected to PAL. With NTSC, you'll be able to get 120fp. Unless you live in an area that is only PAL

Being an 'old'' photographer who started using B&W roll film back in the 60's then progressing to 35mm in the 80's and finally to digital in 2010, over a 54 year period I do smile (sideways) at this fad for having the latest and greatest all of the time, I now use a D7200 which OK, is a fairly old camera but it does the job and it does it well, I recently sold my old Canon 40D simply because I wasn't using it that much so decided to pass it on. I have an old Zenit TTL (35mm film) that still gets used, my video camera is a Canon XF200 which doesn't shoot in 4k but do I care? No, it shoots in HD and that looks great. I have no plans to upgrade any of these as I don't get involved in 'pixel chasing', I also use (frequently) a pocket Sanyo Xacti for video work when out on site with my engineers and despite being a small camera it produces video that is good enough for training and even the built-in mic is useable.. There are many very very good used cameras out there that still have plenty of life in them including the Sony A7iii. Get a camera that you like and feels good and produces good results, don't think you have to upgrade every year or two, you don't. I have no plans to upgrade any of my cameras for the foreseeable future simply because they are damn good cameras and produce the results that I want, are there better cameras out there? Yes of course, do I need them? no I don't. Be happy with what works for you, even if it hasn't got the latest whizz-bang features.

If you set the camera to NTSC mode you unlock more frame rates 4k30 and 1080p120. I think this camera is great value used and will last a good few years before needing upgrading. The newer Sony auto focus is noticeably faster and sticks to moving subjects. As a YT camera I’d say the A7C is great because of the size and screen. It’s almost identical on the inside. However it’s a pain when used in professional settings as to it have to dive into the menu system every time you want to change the settings.

Yes, but it's tied to location. if I use NTSC I have a flickering issue, which is why I shoot in PAL. But yes, in NTSC you get more options! :) I haven't used the a7c but it sounds really good, especially the fully articulating screen for a youtuber like myself haha. Do you own the a7c?

So what if it doesn't have a flip screen. Get a screen prisim aftermarket accessory. You can keep yourself framed while in front of it

That’a true, but then you’d need to attach it to the hot shoe which means you need to buy something like a small rig extension so you can still mount a microphone on to the camera. And if you use the Sony mic that connects to the hot shoe, that won’t work haha😜 but I agree, it’s a good option for some. Usually when I film my tutorials I put a mirror behind my camera so I can somewhat monitor it. It’s not ideal but it gets the job done!

I love my A7iii, but I knew even before I bought it that I was going to have to find ways to work around the lack of a flip out screen. However, at the time it was the best option to get great 4 k video. I ended up buying a canon m50 which has become my go to vlogging camera.

That said Canon’s CEO officially killed their DSLR lines, and expressed that all of their guns are pointing at the new norm, which is mirrorless. The 90D is an APS-C DSLR camera, while the A7III is a Full Frame Mirrorless camera; two different species. For more than 27 years I was a Canon and Nikon user...I got tired of their game, sold everything, and move to Sony...and let me tell you, I don’t regret it. Now with Sony, I have : sharper images, faster autofocus, and the biggest dynamic range you can find in the market today. But I’m the end is all about what goes with your style of shooting, and Canon and Nikon still offers competitive features, plus they are proven battle horses...lol. I hope this helps.

Hey Lila! Little tip for anyone interested - it seems stupidly simple but my camera has a tilt screen and a 20 minute recording limit (in 1080p) - so rather than a complex recording through a PC kinda deal, I use my watch which has a timer. I set it to 20:01 and press record and start on the watch at exactly the same time so that the watch going off won't interrupt anything that I DID get but it will immediately alert me when the recording has stopped. It takes a bit of getting used to but after a while it feels normal to hit the two buttons at the same time.

Why is nearly EVERY review of Sony cameras from the a6000 up to even the a7 IV focused on video? This is a full-frame camera! It's primary market should be taking photos! If you need a Vlogging camera get the a6400. I would much rather use a camcorder for vlogging but that's just me and I don't do vlogging so maybe there's something I'm missing with that, but seriously... There are so few reviews on the a7 iii as s photographer's camera! AAAAAGH! >:()

I can't speak for the others but I focus my videos on the video aspect as I'm a videographers/content creator. I'm not a photographer so I don't feel like I'm the right person to speak about the photography capabilities. Not at all. So far I’ve only got about 70-80 videos on my channel haha. Consistency is important but that doesn’t mean daily :)

Not sure, i haven’t used that camera and It depends on the purpose of using that camera. I would think that the a7s2 might be better because it’s specifically designed for video whereas the a7iii is a hybrid camera. But I’ve never used it so no idea!
