What's going on everybody?!? Are you ready to make that cue ball go airborne? If not, you're in for a ride as I go over the mechanics in performing the jump shot!
If you’re wondering where I strike the cue ball, be sure to check out the follow-on video here:
• Pool Lesson: A Closer ...
The follow on video also appears at the end of this video.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
UPDATE:
The raffle has been closed since Friday, May 19, 2019 @ 12PM CST! I had a total of 801 unique users that left a comment.
There were some that commented multiple times, but that doesn't increase their chances cause I wrote a program that removes their older comments and only uses their most recent comment.
I haven't selected the winner just yet, but good luck to everyone and stay tuned for my next video where the winner will be announced!
I plan on having my next video published in the next couple of days!

Thanks Chris, that was amazing! I’ve never had a jump cue, I still don’t, however, I’ve been thinking to get one and start practicing these shots. This is the first tutorial that I’ve watched for learning how to play jump shot and I believe I don’t need another one. Everything I thought I needed to know to flawlessly make a “Short high” and “Long” jump shot was there in this video!

Chris - I just subscribed to your channel. I am a long time player and used to be able to play a bit. Got a table now and trying to remember some of what I used to be able to do. Your teaching here was awesome, man. The language was clear and communicated the points effectively, the videos were well edited. You didn't say much about it, but the trick of how QUICKLY you can get the cue ball in the air to clear the other balls (2 ft, then 1 ft, then 6 inches, then 3 inches) showed the differences in techniques required very well. Great job, man - and I"ll be a regular at watching your videos. Thanks!

I would disagree with you. Jump shots aren’t as easy as it seems and it takes a lot of practice to get the accuracy down. It’s one of the reasons why I like American pool rules over countries that ban this move.

@@SethStovallVO The problem with the jump shot, the way I see it, is that it robs us of the alternative, which will almost always be much more interesting than the jump... i.e., a 2- or 3- or maybe 4-rail escape shot.

I got here by typing in how to jump with your playing cue, saw it was DA MAN LIL CHRIS & decided to watch. Even when I was playing 50+ hours a week. 2 league and 3 tournaments a week, I have never had a jump cue in my hand in my life to this day lol and yes they had them when I played. The only forward jump shots I ever did, was usually no more than a 1/4 of the ball with my playing stick. I've seen others do more than that, just not me (playing cue) I got extremely good at jumping off the rail, which I originally did by accident, then was playing a guy for $20, ran the table, jawed the 8 (not ball in hand rules) and he had like a 4 or 5 ball cluster, they were away from the rail about 4 inches and he dropped the like 2 inches away from the rail, blocked by his balls and said "Now what are u gonna do" I hadn't practiced or really learned that shot, but I hit it off the rail, it went high & literally came down on the 8, no scratch, 8 went in, so it was 100% LUCK!!! I was pissed at his comment lol, but ever since that day I started practicing it. You go a tip above center, like 30 degrees, hold your back hand with 2 fingers so u don't power it and pop it with your wrist. If you take a kick shot, say OB by the side pocket, CB 5 inches away from the rail on the other side & find your spot on the rail for aim with no juice & hit as mentioned above, act like there's no ball in the way, you'll hit it every time. 90% of the people that bomb at this are hitting too hard, elevation to high & have a full hard grip in the back back & that's why they bomb, adding left or right juice is insane what the CB will do, especially hitting the end rail to make a shot on the other end of the table, you'd have to do it to believe what will happen. I'd love to see a video in slow motion, but even on an across for the short one in the side, if a ball is blocking your natural aiming point, like their ball is on or close to the rail where u wanna hit & u hit next to their ball with right, I swear the ball goes to the right IN THE AIR, but that's hard and takes lots of practice. Try it man, it's an awesome tool

Good job on the video, the explanation was very detailed, concise and well illustrated. Now it's time for me to practice!! One thing I might add is that I have seen plastic sheets that you can lay down on your table cloth behind the cue ball where your cue would strike. This would probably help protect your felt until you learn how to execute the shots the way that you describe. Thanks again for your instructional videos they have definitely helped my game.

Great job with the video. I've always scooped the ball and have never been able to actually legally jump the ball so this video helped me out a lot. Thank you Chris.

Very well done. The video was informative and has me at the table practicing your technique on elbow position and bridging. One helpful hint I have is to place a piece of old felt under the cue ball to prevent burn marks on the table felt when practicing jump shots.

Great demo on the proper way to jump a que ball. Also the differences between all the different type of cues with the tips was an added bonus...

I subscribe, liked and hit the belt for all your videos to watch when you release. I was at the Billiards Expo and I got to play Tony Robles and talk to him. He also was teaching us how to perform a jump shot. Just like he said here. Explain so easy that a child would understand. You did it also. Excellent job.

Good job on the "Jump Shot" tutorial. I really try not to be in that situation where I have to do a jump, because I really don't have that much of experience on it. Now that I've subscribed to your tutorials and watching them, I believe I will get better at the game. Thanks Lil' Chris.

Thanks Chris for the lecture. I was once a scoup jumper. I hope I find a hall allowing jumping so I can try out your technique
