Baby's Pierced Ears

4 and a half month old Riley gets her ears pierced. She did well! Only cried for about 30 seconds. And she was her normal happy self. Our family gets our girls ears pierced when they are 4 months old, so they get it over with quickly, and won't remember the pain. This is the 5th grandchild to get her ears pierced, all have loved them, and have been happy that they were done so young.

Never understood the need that mama's have to get their babies ears pierced. That baby is just as beautiful without the earrings. I had 3 girls and never pierced theirs. I just couldn't bring myself to put them through that. But everybody is different but your baby is beautiful.

They didn’t laugh because of the baby was in pain though. It’s the kind of laugh when babies do something cute. Sometimes my one year niece fell on the floor and I start to laugh. Not because she fell but because I found it cute and I know it wasn’t too dangerous. The laught in this video wasn’t that deep to be upset about. The person laughing knew the baby wasn’t in danger. Because if the baby was in danger they wouldn’t be laughing. Most importantly they wouldn’t even be there.

They were certainly not laughing because the baby girl was in pain. They thought it was cute and they knew she was fine. They knew she was being well taken care of. Do you know how you usually spend time with an infant and he/she clumsily falls and then the child cries, but you start laughing. You do not laugh because it "looks" as if the baby just injured himself/herself, but because it looks cute because the child is too young and is new to the world, still physically and psychologically developing.

Look up an article in wikipedia about earrings (and a paper it referrs to: "Contact hypersensitivity and allergic contact dermatitis among school children and teenagers with eczema"). All earrings contain a little bit of nickel (no matter what base metal they are made of), and kids get allergic, because of that nickel that is in earrings (a lot of the so called food allergies can be caused by those earrings done when they were babies due to nickel present in them). So although it seems that doing piercing for babies would save them from remembering the pain of doing that when they are older, that allergy problem makes it a non recommended procedure. To avoid that allergy problem someone would probably have to buy as chemically pure metal for earrings as possible, like gold, test it for nickel, if any is found give it for a chemist to purify it. Test it again, if it is nickel free, then make a custom made earrings from it. That's certainly a lot of effort and expenditures, but if you want to save your baby from earring caused allergies that is the only way (apart from not doing piercing to babies and kids at all).

Parents please stop immediately putting a pacifier in your baby’s mouth when they’re hurt! Its not going to stay in anyway. It’s okay to allow them to cry, it’s healthier for them to let it out bc they’re in shock and in pain. I had mine done when I was 17yrs old and that is what I found out. They felt "hot" also, just for a few minutes.

Piercing by hollow needle, done by a professional body piercer is less painful and doesn’t smash the ear. There is a video of a blueberry being pierced with a gun, and it literally explodes. Another one is pierced with a needle and it slides through like butter

It's sometimes cultural stuff you know. Not just for the look all my former schools has rules that ban you from wearing anything except earing. I got mine when I was so young I use to think all bay girls are born wearing it. But no trauma here. Seriously though. I guess Americans hate this thing which is kind of weird cause Indians approve this a lot. Most Indian girls love earrings and we love if our parents did it at very young age itself. Because we won't hesitate and at that age it doesn't pain at all, it will be more like the feeling of slight pinching. And in case the baby doesn't like it in future, the holes can completely close in few months.

Both of my children who are now 7 and 11 love that I got theirs ears pierced as babies. They said they do not even remember getting it done and that if they were to have the option to do it now at their ages they would not want it done because they would be scared it would hurt.

Everyone is an individual and some people never end up wanting pierced ears, stop treating pierced ears as some kind of default. And as someone pointed out in another reply, your other kids might only "like" their pierced ears because they already had them and they simply don't know anything else; they were never given the choice to decide for themselves. You even said it yourself - they wouldn't choose to do it if it hadn't already been done. "If I know full well that someone won't consent to something when they're old enough to consent, it's more convenient and therefore better to just do it at an age where they can't consent" isn't the argument you think it is. And I know you might say "they can still decide to just take the earrings out", but that's not the issue here. The issue is that you've made a permanent body modification on babies who can't consent - the ear lobe is never the same again after piercing, even if they close up. This is especially true of piercing with a gun because of the way it ruptures the skin in a way that's much more damaging than a needle (please do some research into this. If you're going to pierce your children's ears at least have the courtesy to do it with the proper, safe method, which is a needle. And if no piercer will agree to needle pierce a baby, maybe that's your sign that you shouldn't be doing it?). I got my ears pierced with a gun over 10 years ago and my ear lobes are still really messed up from it. The issue isn't with the appearance of earrings in and of itself, but with a permanent hole being made on someone who can't consent, as well as the pain and risk of infection and other complications. Edit: only just noticed how old this video is and realised that the 7 year old you mentioned is actually the baby in the video, not another kid. My point still stands though.

No lo va a recordar, en mi país nos perforan al momento de nacer. No recuerdo el dolor ni nada. Pero al perforame 2 veces más de adulta si que lo recuerdo, tarda 6 meses en curar el cartílago y el del lóbulo ya lleva 3 meses y aún duele. Me alegro que mi mamá hiciera los 2 iniciales y me ahorrase todo el dolor de adulta

My mom pierced mine was I was just a baby and I’m glad she did cause I don’t remember it at all. I’ve just had earrings in my whole life. And it barley hurts the baby just scares them ☺️ If I decided I didn’t want them when I got older I simply would’ve just taken them out. I will pierce my babies ears (girl or boy) because I think it’s adorable 🤷🏽‍♀️❤️

The fact that you don't remember doesn't mean it wasn't traumatic. I think being ok with hurting a child because the result is adorable is a bit problematic in itself. Hopefully when you have your child you'll feel differently.

Love her outfit, earrings and headband, so cute. I decided I wanted mine pierced when I was 6 because it was 1995, the Batman Forever movie was just released and one day we went shopping at the mall for school clothes and saw a pair of batman stud earrings and just had to have them, I cried a little at first but then fell in love with them Now with some patches of gray hair I still wear earrings, either a gold stud or silver cross. 😂
