1988 and there I was in my local record shop. At 15, Blood ,Fyre ,Death had just arrived. Gate folded , lyrics, etc. At 51, it's still , as is all Quorthons, work a magnum opus to me. He and his music are sorely and sadly missed.

Quorthon was a genius. To basically invent not just one, but two genres is something not many people can claim for themselves. It's such a pity he passed away this young.

I remember walking around East Oakland listening to Hammerheart and thinking this was the best music i had ever heard, lol. A 16 year old Black kid singing along to Viking metal had to look strange as fuck but this was the crack era so nobody cared, lol

My OG copy of Under the Sign has "I hail satan" inscribed backwards in the dead wax and when I discovered this little easter egg back in the 80's I truly did think I was listening to the sound of pure evil. I will forever be in awe of what this man created and along with early Hellhammer/Celtic Frost and Mercyful Fate paved the path of my musical journey forever more.

\m/ As soon as a best friend gave me this unknown album, it was Bathory, I was hooked. We lived in a small city in South Australia and all the people though that we were insane devil worshipers. That all changed when my friend fired up this album for the first time, Bathory blaring out of the morgue where we we helping him clean up a cadaver. My friends parents owned the funeral parlour and he would make the people look clean and ready for open viewings. We always respected the dead way before we ever heard of Death, Black and other underground (at the time) forms of metal. Way we were brought up, live life while you can, breath in and learn, lie-down when you are done and rejoice with those who continue on. \m/ Quorthon \m/ RIP man and many thanks!

great for the subtities , i never seen swedish TV doing something about bathory and quorthon, something aside, even though is hard to tell them apart, i always felt swedish language more punchier and heavy accented and norwegian more soft and breathy, which is kind of amusing due to their metal stories,

As a swede, I agree. But for some reason, Norwegian works exceptionally well in black metal, swedish not so well. It comes down to accents, I suppose. Sing in stockholm, östgötisk or värmländsk accent in black metal & you will sound like a fucken dork or gay (old & modern definition).

Shades used to run small adverts in Kerrang and Dave Constable who ran Shades used to add his own comments. For Bathory's first album he wrote "Total death, beyond Slayer" That's when I knew I had to get a copy.

The first time I heard Jubileum vol 1 i was blown away. Then blood on ice did it all over again. I like all of bathory's stuff, but blood on ice is just fucking magical.

In Italy heavy metal music is absolutely dead, only poor production of pseudo-rap mixed whit ipotetic glamour style of life…cocktail on the beach, shit music, very hot and sunny meteo…a really shitty country

Is he saying anything factually wrong though? He even acknowledges in this documentary that Quorthon obviously was the driving creative force of Bathory, and both Jonas and Fredrik left the band very early on, but I don't think he is stating anything factually incorrect. Who knows what Quorthon would have said, because I think it's also known that the man had a bit of an ego, as much of a genius as he was. There were many things Quorthon did not admit to or left out in the history of Bathory, such as his manager actually being his dad who was the head of a big record label, or the fact that he did not credit musicians who helped out on his early albums. Not to mention the big influence Venom had on him, something he was weirdly reluctant admitting to even though it was plainly obvious.
