I`m an old fart and they use to play this movie to us kids in the gymnasium when I was in the 1st and 2nd grades in the 1960`s and I remember distinctly not once ever thinking it was a black guy around white nuns but thinking how nice he was as a man to do all those things for those nuns. It taught me later on that only adults judge people by race because of fear which is the true opposite of love, not hate, and that the true richness in life is gained by what we do for others.

Only movie ending that tears me up. I’m not sure why. Just strikes a cord. The chapel finally built and it’s time to move on to wherever God needs him. Mother Superior too proud to admit it but she’s heartbroken he’s leaving and he doesn’t want credit. Sneaks out after singing the hymn and drives off into the night while the bell rings then the movies closes with the words “amen”. Perfect movie.

Seen the movie many times and tried to figure it out by looking at the Catalina mountains in the background. It was a very low budget movie and was overshadowed by the pilot of the Fugitive being shot at the same time. Just met a man who worked for the Santa Rita hotel in downtown Tucson where the cast and crew stayed.he knew the location and I've been there even though the chapel was torn down after filming. It is less than a mile from my house near the intersection of cloud and sabino. Walked by it many a time with my dog and never knew it was so close. What a treasure of a movie.

This film I remember from childhood and now after around 45 years I see this supricely and hear this song that I remember so well....this brings back so many memories about my parents since they were alive 35 years ago. This film has something very special and Sidney Pointer is outstanding memorable in it. Respect for him and this film.

My mom may she rest in peace got me hooked on all things Sidney Poitier especially this movie. Here was this journeyman stopping for water and ended up getting rooked by a Mother Superior to build a Chapel. It was a funny and sweet movie about humbling yourself before God and serving Him. Tubi TV has this currently on its platform along with several other Poitier classics!

Have very fond remembrances of watching this beautiful movie with my mom when I was a little boy. It always seemed to air around Easter time. And what a beautiful man Sidney Poitier was. R.I.P.

As an Arizonan, I find this a fascinating look at what Tucson's east side looked like when it was still a rural area.

Sidney Poitier is one the best actors of all time. He was the first black man to win an Oscar for best actor. He paved the way for many black actors and actresses of yesterday and today. There's an impact of all actors by him. Today at 93 years old, he'll go do in history for the movie industry.

Wonderful song written by an amazing composer, Jester Hairston. Those of us old enough to remember the TV show AMEN with Sherman Hemsley may remember Jester Hairston as the Rolly. He also wrote "Mary's Boy Child".

he didn't write it...he arranged it. I knew Jester in 1972 and had a wonderful summer learning his world. Great great man who saw things in hollywood that would make us shudder today.
