So if lilith was in charge of the downfall of the garden how does lucifer got the blame?

That is a long and complicated story--what is comes down to is that Lilith and a lot of variants on the myth are features of Mesopotamian folklore going back to at least the Bronze Age. Lucifer is a product of a later Jewish mystical tradition that eventually supplants Lilith as the arch nemesis of the Biblical God. The whole story of Lucifer and the fallen angels is not actually told in the Hebrew Bible (Torah, Old Testament...whatever you want to call it) but is recorded in an entirely different collection of Jewish mystic writings that hardly anyone actually reads anymore, but because a lot of early Christians were mystical Jews that came to become followers of the Jesus Movement, they brought the story with them where it became part of oral tradition, while Lilith stories evolved into the medieval Jewish tales of Incubus and Succubus. The story from Genesis does not say it was Lucifer or Lilith, but "the serpent" the wiliest (or "wisest") of creatures. As to WHO the serpent is...that is what has allowed multiple traditions to develop. (Look at late medieval and early renaissance depictions of Adam and Eve and notice the serpent with female breasts often depicted). That should give you enough search terms to track down as much of the details of this as interests you.

So a bunch of bullshit and more lies and plagiarism from the Jewish community Israelites whatever you want to call them. All they do is steal everyone else's stories which seem to be written out in the most truthful form that they could express and passed on as knowledge for everyone to learn not turn into some plagiarized hidden meaning.

Frazer's 2nd love on Cheers was Lilith and there's a Lilith Fair musical festival for women. Now I understand, thank you! Your videos help me make sense of the world.

@@Art2GoCanada I used to mention both of those things when doing this in class--but the Cheers reference is too old and no longer resonates with my students; and I originally had the Lilith Fair reference in this lecture but forgot it in this take. There is also a "Lilith" magazine which is geared towards "liberal American Jewish women" but I couldn't show any covers as they are copyright protected.

I have a question here. It's my understanding that the story of Adam and Eve was put to writing multiple centuries before the story of Lilith was. Indeed, the Lilith story I thought dates to about 800 CE? Whereas Genesis dates to about 1400 BCE ? Yes, it is possible there was an oral tradition, but that's quite a stretch considering that it's not mentioned in other aspects of Jewish lore of the era? So your hypothesis seems to violate the historical method, since the story of Adam and Eve is almost a millennia earlier?

The date of the earliest written versions of a story is not the same as the age of the story itself--nearly everything begins as oral tradition and then sometimes the story gets written down and then sometimes those written versions survive to us. It is true that the oldest Jewish account of the Lilith story is from the Middle Ages, and it is embedded in a work of satire. But there are references to Lilith in other places indicating the story was known much earlier (see video: Lilith Bowls, Isaiah 34:14...). If the first appearance of a written text is required to believe in its existence, then keep in mind that we also don't have any ancient copies of the Bible (or pretty much any other ancient "book")--the oldest complete Bible only goes back to about 1000 CE. Everything we have from the ancient world is a copy of a copy of a copy--there are no original copies of Plato, Aristotle, Cicero, Seneca...none. So, we must adopt more sophisticated methods of determining the approximate age of a story or treatise or poem--this video is only a brief introduction to these matters as it relates to the story of Lilith.

yea, I didn't believe it when I first heard about her like yea right Adam had 2 wives. They don't tell this story in the church. I mean I had heard of Jezebel but not Lilith But I'm hearing more references about her lately. I appreciate your explanation on this. I wish I had of known more about this when I was younger.

G-d gave the Torah to demonstrate how to bring Holiness into this world. Rebellion is a creation for this world (Olam meaning concealed) where G-d is concealed to allow humans freedom to choose a relationship and Holiness or not. Lilith chose to strive against Adam over sexual dominance rather than dominance in the Home. A jewish home represents the Holy Temple, the Jewish wife represents the Kohen (Holy Priests) and the husband represents the King. The King, in Judaism, takes advise from the Priests who are designated with G-ds prophecy

In the Philippines they have Aswangs that they truly believe are real. They have wings and clawed feet. They come in the night and take fetuses from pregnant women. Sometimes they'll take newborns. They have human form during the day and land on the roof of guys and homes where their lower torso separates and is left behind as their winged upper torso goes and eats these fetuses. They're attracted to women's blood and also menses. I'm convinced the story originated with Lilleth.

Sigh. I can fix this: They didn't put her in the story because it would show that women have the option of not having a man. There. It's all figured out now.
