Impeccable construction technique. I’m 5’8”, 315 lbs, with a smallish C cup, and this worked out GREAT for me - though I did make thicker straps! Also, when seeming up the back, I found that if you go through both loops for each stitch of the start of the band, and the Back Loop Only of the last row in the band, that the ribbing truly looks seamless when you flip it inside out.
@emergencyrainbow4 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing that tip about the back seam! I used that technique, and it really blends in with the rest of the ribbing!!! :)

Just finished making this but I heavily modified it!! Here are some notes I have (for future me and whoever reads this): I used weight 4 acrylic yarn instead of weight 3, which really changed a lot of things. I originally followed the pattern exactly as shown in the video, but I ended up hating it because all the lacework got very much 'lost in the sauce' through stretching, it didn't sit on my body properly, and it just didn't look good. I ended up frogging the torso bit and experimented with a bunch of modifications. These are the ones that worked: For Row 2, I noticed that only 1 row of single crochet didn't provide enough stability for the upper part of the top. The row 3 box stitches sometimes rode up, showing more of my chest than I liked. So instead I made 4 single crochet rows. I also made these a bit tight so that they could sort of act like a bra band to the chest bit. For row 3, I noticed the boxes got lost in the sauce using the original pattern, so I did a treble crochet, chained 2, skipped 2 stitches and trebled into the 3rd stitch from the hook. Since this made multiples of 3, I had to skip 3 stitches on the last box and chain 3 to keep my original 64 stitch count. For row 6, I noticed that 6 double crochets into each chain 5 space also got lost in the sauce. Instead I did 10 treble crochets into each chain 5 space. I also single crocheted directly into the 3rd chain of the chain 5 space instead of just doing it into the space directly. When I did this, I didn't do it into the traditional two loops however, because that third "underloop" would be oddly pronounced. Instead I chained into the backloop and "underloop", which ended up looking cleaner from the front. I also did this for row 12. For row 7, I noticed that doing chains of 7, then single crochets did not work for me. If I chained them tightly enough for my body, the top wouldn't fit over my boobs. If I chained loosely as she suggested, the top grew bigger and did not sit on my body. Instead I just made 7 foundation chains, and then a foundation chain into the chain 2 space (from the previous row) all the way around. This allowed the top to continue being stretchy while also fitting my body and I highly recommend it. For Row 12, I added 12 treble crochets into each chain 5 space. This made the bottom slightly bigger than I would've liked, but the way the 'shells' fan out sort of looks like petals so I don't really mind it. Might change it if I make another one of these tops. Other Notes: I used 64 foundation chains and tried to chain more tightly as I went on so that it wouldn't end up loose during the transition from the ribs to the waistline. I'm 5'7 and the top ended up stopping right after my belly button. I'm about a 32D, 34inch bust, 28inch underbust and 25 inch waist, which is pretty similar to BJax's measurements. For some reason though, and I don't know why, the keyhole top part ended up looking SUPER revealing on me unlike the video, and I didn't feel comfortable with it. I didn't want to restart the whole thing though, so I just slip stitched the front chest part into a single panel and it ended up looking fine. The chest panel is still a bit vertically shorter than I would like, but I don't feel like redoing that at the moment. Maybe I'll make it longer and properly one panel in the future. Also when she says 'crochet into the backloop' for the chest ribbing, it is always going to be the loop furtherest away from you. Because you flip your work after every row, which loop is the backloop will change every time. Just remember its always the once furthest from you (this confused me more than it should've). Also, when she spilts her top into halves, and then the front panel into fourths , they are not truly even. There is no center stitch for an even number, but instead two center stitches. It doesn't really matter towards the end however, so long as the distances between wherever you place your stitch markers are the same, so that the increases and decreases are symmetrical. Also, I ended up making one chain for each strap instead of two for simplicities sake. I ended up criss crossing them on the back because I always feel that makes the bust area look better/ feels more supporting. They ended up being about 54 tight chains each. Lastly, my biggest recommendation to avoid redoing rows is to STITCH MARKER EVERYTHING. The first in the row, the last in the row, the second stitch you'll have to work on, the last single crochet into the chain 2 space, the tallest row of the chest ribbing before you start decreasing, the chain of the foundation row you have to always work in thats so impossible to find, etc etc. Nothing is more annoying than counting 63/64 stitches after working so hard. Thank you for the pattern!!

Yay, I did it as an absolute beginner. I crocheted some amigurumis before but that's it. I made a top 36/38A (80/85A) with 128 Chains at the beginning and 28 chains high at the bust. It took me 13 hours straight up crocheting and around 80 g of yarn. And some calming information: It is absolutely right that the stitch count increases in round 5 - 7, but if everything was made correct you should be back to your starting count of stitches in round 8. I worried a lot 😅 Thanks Bjax

I just finished making my own top and I changed the pattern a little for any 💜 PLUS SIZED GIRLIES 💜 (I used medium 4 weight acrylic yarn + a 5.5mm hook | I used the "I love this yarn" from hobby lobby) My measurements: 36in underbust, ~44in bust (DDD-F cup I think) I'm about 5ft 6.5in and around 210lbs. These changes help anyone worried about the coverage that the normal bust pattern wont cover all the way (seriously I would've had spillage 💀, and the bra would definitely be on display) I used 80 stiches for my base stitch count (same as video) | I kept the bottom (lace part) the same, but changed for the bust part of the top (aka the ribbing). I used a 14 chain base and did the ribbing as normal until the increase. At the increase I increased by ONE on the way up, and TWO on the way down (once at the top on the turn, and once at the bottom on the last stitch). At the decreases, I decreased by one all the way for extra coverage (same as the video). I repeated this on the other side, but increasing by one, then decreasing by one and two alternating to finish off the cup part. To finish, I just followed the sc ribbing as normal. Since the slit was so long, I used the 100 chain piece at the end to lace up the split (think shoes/corsets) with a bow at the top. For the shoulder straps, instead of just chains, I chained my desired amount + 2, and then hdc all the way down starting at the 3rd chain from the hook (the chain before the extra +2). Back: 80 chains (then ch 2) + hdc down @ 3rd ch. Front: 40 chains (then ch 2) + hdc down @ 3rd. For the back straps, I should've done ~65, but it's still cute. The front straps also could have been shorter, but I don't mind. This whole thing took a couple days, and I'm in love 💜 | Hope this helps someone with a bigger bust create a top they love!! | This pattern is amazing, and I'm currently waiting for the Morticia dress to drop! Tysm BJax! 💜

Just finished mine!!! I love it! And its perfect for this 100 degree weather lol. My partner picked out a soft white colored yarn and I love how it turned out! Fits me perfectly (with some modifications) Worked on it gradually over the course of a week. I'm a beginner so I did have some setbacks but I found some workarounds: - My back ribbing wasn't the same height when I went to connect it, so instead of seaming it all the way up I connected them at the top only and made a key-hole type thing to hide the height difference and added a charm in the center. Worked out pretty well! - I went for the cinched bust look with that final strap. At first the bust was a little too big and scooped outwards when I relaxed my shoulders (story of my life) but I ended up just taking that strap and working it higher up the bust and now it fits great! I've never had something fit my chest so well. If you do this keep in mind that the more you cinch the more "mesh" the bust part will become, but I typically wear a black bra roughly the same shape as the top so the colors work out great. THANK YOU FOR THIS TUTORIAL!! This is my first ever crochet project, and I'm happy to report is was a roaring success! :D Much love! I'm also ecstatic to be able to move comfortably in such a top, I already want to make another 👀

I’m a 42J and I’ve made 2 of these tops now! My first one I used Red Heart Super Saver black 4 weight yarn with a 4mm hook My second one I used Peaches and Cream Rosemary 4 weight yarn with 4 mm hook. At 42” underbust my foundation was 136 stitches which still stretched around my over bust measurement of 52”. No problems with the torso! In fact, both tops are a bit loose, which is very comfy, but I might try another top with 128 stitches next. Adding the bust stitches seems to stretch out the torso area. For the first top bust area I used 40 as my chain measurement, which gave me 23 stitches as my sides and back. I found 23 to be very high in my armpit and added extra markers further out to decrease the back to 16 stitches high. I switched from single crochet to half double crochet at my extra added increase on the right side, but realized my mistake and switched from half double crochet to single crochet at the armpit marker midway through decreasing on the left. The half double crochet is nice for rounding out the fabric around the breasts, but having it start further back on my first side made my side breast and armpit area bubble out too much. It even bubbles out too much on the sides when starting under the armpit. With the stretchy super saver yarn, I’m going to try again with single crochets on the sides all the way to the peak height, then half double from peak to peak in the front only. Maybe using a 3 weight yarn like the video calls for would fix this issue, but I’m using yarn I already have at home. My second top I attempted single crochet all the way around, but that was far too small. I frogged it and followed the pattern as is. For this top I dropped my height to 35 chains because 40 took forever and gave me more coverage than I wanted on the first one. This put the back height at 18 stitches. Still some bubbling at the armpits but using the cotton yarn drastically decreased the issue. The chain straps don’t work at all for my size, so I chained 50 to connect the front to back and then slip stitched across the chain back to the front to have a thicker strap. I also tried making two thick straps that tie into a bow but it was bulky, I do not recommend it. This is the best top design that has fit my large breast size! Thank You BJax!!!!

Thanks so much for this beautiful pattern! I have a few tips for bigger/curvier girls: I'm a size 12/14, like 205 and 5'7". I think i wear a 38d. I wanna say my first measurement at the bottom of my bust was 38 and the second measurement was 45inches...so I either did 136 or 144 foundation stitches...and it got me a little off. I ended up going up the row when I reached my stich markers instead of down, but it still worked out fine. For me, I had 15 stitches for the sc part up to 32 stitches at the hdc part. If I were to do the breast part again, I would increase for about 8 rows, then stop increasing for about 4, and then do double the increases for 4 rows or something. I had too much room for side boob, in other words. AND a suggestion for curvier girls would be to do another round of the rows of design at the bottom. For me, my boobs and fat kind of cover up the first round of it haha, and it'd cover a little more of my tummy that way. I hope this helps someone out there!

I love BJax, when I started my clothes making crochet journey, truth I am grateful for the alignment. Great teacher. And this will be my second dress, I am going so I'm excited. For my girls (or guys) who aren't comfortable with the foundation double crochet use a 5mm hook to do your chains, add 3 chains extra for a turning chain and then use a 4mm hook to make the double crochet in the back bump of the chains. It's slightly tighter than the foundation double crochet, but way looser than the normal way, if all else fails and you still have to do it normal, just do the chains loose with a 5mm to base a loose foundation.

@karlalorrana39365 ай бұрын

Quick tip: if you're flat chested like me, skip the half-double in the top and just keep on working in single crochet. Or just add three or four rows of half-double in the middle. I'm quite flat and the top part kind of flaps on the sides. I fixed it by putting an elastic thread all around the top but if I made another one I would probably just work single crochet
@vwer_onika15962 ай бұрын

@@alicegaiba Oh okay thanks, I might have to redo it tho. Do you think it was because I used a 3mm hook and somewhat not stretchy yarn?
@alicegaiba2 ай бұрын
@@vwer_onika1596 I've used 100% cotton so mine wasn't stretchy either. If the hook size made a difference depends on the recomended size written on the yarn label, but even if you used the "wrong" hook, the top should still be proportionate (like everything should be too big or too small, not just part of it) 🤔 By watching her video I could clearly see that the reason hers looks different than mine is because she has boobs to fill it with while I'm almost completely flat. I don't know about your physique though 😅
@vwer_onika15962 ай бұрын
@@alicegaiba Yeah I also don't have any boobs. But the overall problem is that also when I lay it flat it has these flaps. But thanks for all that : ) I'll try to figure it out over time

For people using size 4 yarn, i used a 6.0 mm hook and the top came out perfectly. Keep in mind I used the Loops and Thread yarn. I tried Red Heart at first but it did not stretch as well. **As a rule of thumb** have your gauge of 8 foundation chains at ~3 inches. Also make sure it's stretchy enough.

I made one in a size 16-18... I added an extra set of rows for length being a larger size. And the straps will be a little sturdier and one solid piece for obvious reasons. And I'm gonna see how fringes look, we'll see. But I love this pattern and it turned out beautifully, thanks for sharing. I'll make a few smaller sizes for inventory also.

6:04 6:07 @@pickledbuns I used one and a half of loops and threads S4 in periwinkle. I also added an extra border around the bottom. No fringes yet, still thinking. It's lovely. My starting chain was 144 and my bust chain (under to top) was 30. My back panel was 13. (Keep a close eye on your stitch marker count) oh, I also decreased stitches across the back some before straps for a snugger fit. This is definitely a size 18, if you are a 16, go down to a starter chain by 8. I'm a 16 and this one is a little loose on me.

This was my first more complex project and I loved and hated it at the same time. It had nothing to do with the pattern itself but I had to redo it about 4 times because I kept counting stitches wrong:') I eventually managed to do the torso part but he bust was something else. I gave up counting about halfway in the bust part and just eyeballed it and it turned out fine(although the perfectionist in me is screaming). Tip for bustier people: make the straps thicker. I went back and single-crocheted into the straps because I still wanted to keep a spaghetti strap look, but if you're bigger I suggest a hdc. Very cute top, very pretty pattern, incredibly helpful and clear tutorial, 10/10. Making the straps from 2 pieces allows you to tie them in different ways(I found I prefer crossing them in the back)
@s0lastsummer76 ай бұрын
If it helps your perfectionist heart to stop being upset....you probably had counting problems because your chosen multiple of eight was an odd number which created odd numbers between your stitch markers. So it was nothing you did wrong and you would've ended up doing it the way you did anyway. Hopefully this helps. 😉

My tip for big boobies team, is to make an under booby starting chain a little tight, so that it won't come over your boobs (coz omg we don't want that), and then, one or two rows later, add x2 eight additional chains, so that it could be comfy + to make a highest booby point chain a little too big indeed, but not much, cause in the very end, you'll see that the cups are stretching, so it's ok if it seems a bit short at first, it Will get larger ! --> made a 30 stitches chain for a DD cup and it's perfectly comfy, might even be too much in the futur x)
@palesabaikakedi36573 ай бұрын
quick tip, you are better off rounding down your stitches so that your final product isn't too big (its gonna stretch anyway) e.g if your underbust is 85 stitches round down to 80 rather than up to 88... im trying it on right now and it would definitely be more form fitting if i did 80 instead of 88

Love this design! Just finished mine and it's so comfortable even as a d cup. I changed out the chain straps for something slightly thicker: a repeat of (ch 3, dc into the row below). For the bow part I switched back to just the chains. Even though I did this, the straps don't dig in at all. I could probably do them tighter but for now it's been fine. I'm also trying to think of ways to make this top into a short sleeve. I'm not sure what the best method would be yet.

I made this project for myself and I am a big gal. 42-inch waist and 55-inch bust. It honestly came out great with your instructions on measurements, but somehow my back seam ended up more of a side seam. No biggie though. My only issue (and it isn't a fault of the pattern) is that I need far more robust straps than the simple chain ones here. I am going to try changing out the straps for the adjustable straps by Littlejohn's Yarn here on YT. I think that will make this piece perfect for me. :)

Same here! I added an additional chain for a neckholder on each side but I could still use more support
@lauratelotorres82827 ай бұрын
Hi! Were you able to do thicker straps? I keep thinking that since the high part is one row only, if its gonna look weird if I add more rows of straps onto the high part (where you join the straps). I want to start this project but I also have a big difference from my waist to my bust and I'm not sure if its gonna work out, plus, I also need more support, or at least a strap ta covers my bra.
@portlyminnow84027 ай бұрын
@@lauratelotorres8282 It did work okay without looking too crazy, but I definitely wouldn't recommend the pattern if you are wanting to hold your girls up high, there just isn't enough support for that, which is the biggest downside to crocheting clothes as a person with a larger chest. I had some good tips in one of my crochet groups that suggested remaking the pattern with a yarn that has less stretch, but I haven't tried that yet! I definitely wouldn't want to wear the top anywhere I am going to be doing a lot of moving around and bending over lol!
