I am 46 years old. 5 months ago I was 6ft4 330lbs. I was as sedentary as could be imagined. I drank far too much. I ate any food that gave me a moment of happiness, with no regard for my well being. There could never be enough cake or fried chicken sandwiches to fullfill those cravings. I ate it all. I saw no way that I wasn't going to end up an invalid at some point in the future. I felt so much guilt that my wife would have to deal with me like that, and felt ashamed and powerless to do anything about it. I felt like I was letting down everyone I loved, and anyone who had ever invested any energy in me, in any form. I felt like shit all the time. I was having breathing issues, and stomach issues and I finally ended up in the hospital about 5 months ago. After a slew of tests, I was diagnosed as diabetic (7.6 a1c,) and as having non alcoholic steato hepatis (NASH) liver disease. It dawned on me that I very well could end up dying and leaving my wife to deal with the life partnership that we've built over the last decade, by herself. That was the biggest motivation to get me going. I need to enjoy as much life as possible with my wife, my heart and soul in the time we have on this earth. For a guy who would so often wander aimlessly, I've been able to block out everything and focus on a mission when I finally get mad (or scared,) enough. So I did. I've lost 70 lbs since that day, because no other outcome was acceptable. My a1c is down to 6.0, my liver is no longer enlarged, and the fatty deposits on my liver appear to be diminishing. Not all the way there yet, but success is now just a foregone conclusion. It's WHEN, not IF. I personally think fruits and veggies are ok, but only if you stay in ketosis when trying to lose weight. Just small amounts to switch up your new, regular eating habits. For me, I first cut out all sugar, alcohol, and almost all carbs. I started on a meat centric keto type diet, but when I started looking at keto recipes and meal plans, it just confused me. These so called "keto recipes," were really only suitable if you eat pretty small portions, and the use of artifical sweeteners is just kind of gross to me. It really seemed stupid to me. Carnivore made everything make sense as a starting point. I stuck to beef, beef liver, chicken liver, butter, egg yolks, and some chicken for three months. I didn't eat bacon, because, having NASH, I try to eliminate all toxins from entering my body and stressing my liver. I love cured meats, but I don't believe that nitrates, and nitritites are healthy, I also think sweetners are kind of like drinking wine to help quit drinking beer, if that makes any sense. Eventually, I got a bit tired of the same diet everyday, so I added an oz. of blueberries, with a quarter cup of full fat yogurt, with a little unsweetened, unflavoured whey protein. I also started adding a handfull of raw spinach under whatever piece of beef I was having that evening. That's all it took to get me horny for food again, but I always make sure I stay under 20g of gross carbs until I hit my target weight (225.) I don't know why I felt the need to write this today, but I did have a real moment today when I went to buy some shirts, and found that I now wear XLT, as opposed to 3XLT 5 months ago. It was a wonderful, emotional moment, and It's going to take a while to fully appreciate how special it was. I'm sorry for rambling along, and for being a bad writer with scattered thoughts, but I feel fucking proud today for the first time in a long time.

I eat meats and fruits. The only fruits I eat are: watermelon, melons, cucumber, zucchini, kiwi, dragon fruit, mangoes, papaya with the seeds, berries, plums, lemon and limes. I make a fruit salad with above mentioned fruits and use lemons or limes as a dressing and have 1 cup of it as lunch. For dinner I eat lean chicken or lean fish on days I eat fruits. I'll probably just eat meat once a day during winter months. I'm new to eating meat so it's been helpful with my transition to more carnivore/ketovore. I also noticed on my recent blood work, my liver enzymes were better than when I was just eating meat. Fruits are everything that comes from flowers so please don't forget that cucumbers and zucchini, and other squashes are fruits and they are lower in carbs than the sweet ones we usually call fruits and can be beneficial for some people.

This is similar to what i eat. I tried doing around 95% animal based for about 5 weeks and felt pretty decent and my workouts were nice. But recently been focusing on meat and fruit as my base with starches optional depending on my needs as far as training and strength. It feels very good, i think the fruits just work well for me.

Lillie, good points you make here. The meat and fruit issue is still being debated... Earlier this year, I quit eating whole fruit. Orange trees are plentiful in many of my client's backyards. I indulged until it backfired within my gut. I'm too carnivore inside my G.I. tract! When I learned how fructose affects the body, I realized that it is not necessary for the human body. I even removed the honey from my coffee! That being said, I do have my indulgences with fruit, in a different way. I prefer plants fermented before consuming them. It helps to break them down and lessen the toxins. Pickled cucumbers or onions are okay. For grains, I enjoy beers and distilled liquors, made from them. As for fruit, a craft beer or distilled liquor, that includes them in the mix, will satisfy my taste. The main crux of eating carnivore is to reduce the increase of glucose within the blood, and keep the Randle Cycle in check.

Very interesting. There's a huge difference between supermarket fruit and fresh; the most delicious orange/fig I ever ate was picked by me, off the trees. This week also, I visited a local orchard and bought apples which were on the tree yesterday. _So_ much more juicy, crisp and delicious than any I've bought out of season in a store! So, eating _a little_ fruit, strictly _in season_ (usually autumn), makes sense to me, in a Carnivore lifestyle.

Just a couple things that come to mind from your experience: ~Hunger after eating the watermelon in spite of having had a full meal prior: eating the watermelon kicked your body into sugar-burning mode, and it was looking for more sugar and needed time to revert to fat-burning mode. I've had the same experience myself. ~Gassiness after eating fruit. One word for you: Food Combining! (Okay, 2 words 😏) Some fruits just digest better on an empty stomach.. when there's other food digesting at the same time, they tend to ferment and create gas because they have to hang around waiting for the proteins and fats to digest. That's all! 😃
@Halpedersen
@Halpedersen Жыл бұрын
Are you saying that whenever you eat, nothing is passed on from your stomach until everything is broken down? Like, you dam it up and pass all of it at once? So if you basically never stopped munching on stuff all day, it would just fill up your stomach and never pass on to be absorbed until you stop eating? Think about this theory. Really think it through.
@melissajanaemiddleton6811
@melissajanaemiddleton6811 Жыл бұрын
@@Halpedersen No, of course the stomach won't just dam it all up eternally, but it will try to digest the contents fully before passing them on to the small intestine, as partially digested contents could cause problems there. But what ends up happening is that some of the food, like some kinds of fruit, will start to ferment as they are hanging around waiting for the more complex items to break down, and that's less than ideal. Some fruits are worse in this regard than others... something like berries won't be as much of a problem as melon, for instance. Everyone's body is a bit different as the ph of the stomach can vary in individuals.

Very interesting results. I did the exact same thing as you. Strict keto for 5 years, carnivore for 1 year. I did the same reintroduction of fruit: apples, clementines, papayas, pineapple and berries. No vegetables. (Also due to Paul Saladino). I had basically 1 fruit per meal, 3 meals a day. so about 60-70g of carbs a day. I have very high performance workouts 6 days a week. My overall results: much higher 'mental' energy. Athletic performance stayed essentially the same. Worse sleep (for sure shorter duration) but weirdly higher energy despite that. Much more water retention and bloat. More weight loss, because weight stayed the same after 3 weeks despite added water retention. Overall feel much, much better. Could also be hormonal changes at play from reintroducing carbs. This part I think Paul Saladino is onto something. BTW: For reference: I'm 40, male, 12% body fat, muscular and very athletic. Thank you for sharing your results!

I’m subscribed. I did a little over a week ago. About 12 days ago I started low carb and I’m transitioning to keto. I have autoimmune issues and know I am dumping oxalate. So I’m trying to ease into things since I was having gastrointestinal issues for years but since about June, it got really bad. Diarrhea out of nowhere and nausea that was so bad I couldn’t eat or leave the house. I saw your videos and carnivore videos come up and got interested in those. I already had to be gluten free and dairy free, but remembered my doctor told me a few years ago my symptoms would improve if I went grain free, completely. (Plus decrease to very little sugar, like simple fruits). Keto sounded close to that diet. When I watched carnivore videos, I wanted to try that too. I know I haven’t done this very long but even just starting I lost 5# and I’m not in ketosis yet. I’m trying to do carnivore 2 meals and keto one meal. I was getting so dizzy even with electrolyte replacement and twice I ate a baked potato I weighed at around 100 grams and leaned toward adding the one low carb green vegetable serving a day. I also have a small or half portion of fruit about every third day. I want to feel better, and I’m definitely interested in watching your future videos where you have these extra foods in case my body doesn’t want complete carnivore or regular keto. I’m using a tracker and my carbs are still in range for keto even with these cheats. I also don’t have a gallbladder. I take digestive enzymes but still burp like a boozer. 😂 If I get healthy doing this, maybe I could be interviewed in the future 😊. I just noticed this video is a year old. I’ll have to look at your video lists. Hopefully you see this.

I eat the same kind of diet. mostly carnivore, with meat organs and fruit. But with about as much fruit as carnivoreMD, I get at least 250 grams of protein at 175 lbs at 6 foot. On my end, I dont have issues with dry scalp or anything of that matter. Actually I feel like my electrolyte needs are better met when I introduce tropical fruits

As usual, the toxicity/tolerance issue always depends on the dosage, and everyone will be different based on genetics and several factors. I've tried pure carnivore and feel great, and adding fruits don't really seem to change much for me, for either better or worse. I simply add it because it doesn't cause me any detriments in reasonable amounts + it allows me to eat kiwi/banana/watermelon, which largely eliminates any possibility of electrolyte deficiencies. I notice that even when i let loose on the weekend and eat some junk/carby meals, i don't seem to get that "carb frenzy" that causes me unable to stop, which is indicative of my body being able to process it without overly spiking blood sugar.

You are such a beautiful wonderful person 🥰 thank you for your timely updates. I understand you totally on this. My late grandma would always have gout flare up whenever she ate fruits especially mangoes. And doctors always used to say gout is for red meat eaters, and she didnt even eat red meat. She wud still always have her flare ups. One of my aunties noticed it was mangoes. She is really not a science person but she understood it. I am more of a science person but i only used to go by the books (what a shame...) So many medical misconceptions. Mangoes are super rich in fructose and it triggers gout like crazy... Anyhow, when I started learning more about this new lifestyle, i finally understood this and told my auntie she was so right ! There is a really cool podcast on nutrition with Judy that talks about gout and fructose. So..yeah.. fruits + meat is a no go for me. Maybe there is less plant toxins than veggies but the fructose can be crazy too

I understand people's issues with fruit. I experimented here and there with mostly raw or seared meat, raw dairy, organs and fruit some months back and I felt incredible. Easy digestion, stable energy throughout the day. I tried keto, carnivore, meat with stone fruits, bbbe+ blueberries. Had different issues with each one. Tbf, I didn't go for a long enough to adjust to those ways of eating. I had to stop because the issues I was having were impacting my day to day life at those times. Doing this recently, however was better for me. I did have one issue, though. I would get headaches from eating too much fruit, and the place I was getting my food from was quite expensive for me to keep going consistently, which is why I only experimented a few weeks. I am overweight, so when I get a good enough paying job and move into my own place, I'll eat meat based with maybe one low carb fruit a day until I heal myself and get to a healthy and natural weight. Then, I might include fruits for energy, hydration, minerals, etc. I think certain fruit is essential for certain people to thrive and live happily more than eating only meat. For others, if you can't tolerate fruit, that's also fine. In the end, our natural food and the basis to our diet should be meat, organs, bones, fat, eggs, raw dairy, maybe fruit, maybe fermented plants in limited amounts

So now I eat "carnivore" plus 5 slices of Ezekiel bread everyday to give me 75g of carbs per day. This has been working well for me. Interesting video. A bit long to get to the results, but I had time. lol. My take on fruits is somewhat similar, though I'm in a slightly different situation. I'm a foreigner who lives in the Philippines. As it's a tropical place we have access to all sorts of weird and wonderful fruits. I also have a farm with plenty of fruit trees. When I started keto last Jan 2021, I stopped all fruits. After a few months I stopped most veggies also. (Lost 95 lbs in 10 months). Currently I'm probably 95% carnivore with the occasional salad or avocado thrown in. I like homemade guacamole with my scrambled eggs (yes a bit of lemon juice, but it's from our own tree). I've given up the really bad fruits here (mangoes, bananas and pineapple) even though we grow them on the farm, I don't eat them. We do have a few other tropical fruits that I will eat in small quantities when they are producing. I know for a fact they have not been sprayed with anything so they are as natural as you can get. Most of them are of the native variety so haven't been genetically modified for the extra size and/or sweetness. I also have scalp issues and have tried a 30 day full carnivore, no dairy, no alcohol, no fruit. It definitely helped on the scalp issues, but my symptoms weren't so bad as to give up those forever. I can probably shave my head and let the sunlight take care of the scalp issues as UV does tend to make a difference. I know this because I get skin issues on my goatee, nothing adjacent to the goatee. So it's either go Mr. Clean, give up dairy, alcohol and fruits, or just limit them and live with a little flakiness. sorry for the long post, but hopefully it's a little more information for people in the same boat.

Hey Lily, I enjoy videos I think you do a great job! Couple of things you might want to consider. First of all, avocados have quite a bit of carbohydrate in them. I think 12 to 14 g which converts immediately to glucose i.e. sugar. Secondly, if you do use a CGM in the future, keep in mind a lot of that fruit you’re eating will have glucose and fructose, the fructose is not going to increase the reading on your CGM. And one final point, according to Bart, K, fructose is 7 to 10 times more damaging to your bodies tissues as glucose. Just something to consider.

@@YeshuaKingMessiah Fructose *will* raise blood glucose readings, but it is delayed due to the liver having to metabolise the fructose, so the negative effect can be more hidden. Effectively it is a much lower glycemic index than glucose but overall a similar glycemic load. Due to the reduce GI it would keep a glucose spike and resulting insulin down, which is good, but fructose is still very glycating compared with glucose. I agree that high fructose should be a No Go. Something to think about is maybe getting allergy tested. I have a latex allergy that makes me sensitive to bananas and avocados. Before I knew about the allergy I only experienced an occasional rash which would eventually go away but as I continued to eat them throughout the year I ended up having tongue swelling, hives, and vomiting with both fruits.

I enjoyed "Lilly Kane: Trial by Fruit". The quest the for carbs was engaging but I have to say the bittersweet conflict with inflammation was somewhat predictable. The Avocado conflict, on the other hand, caught me totally off-guard. I am really looking forward to "Lilly Kane: The Buttering"! :P

Pretty soon you'll be living in Costa Rica and putting honey on your meat! 😉 FYI, I had a similar experience eating sweet local peaches this summer - every time I ate them I was starving 30 minutes later. I do occasionally eat other fruit like banana and apple but I found that white rice is a better filler for me for extra calories and I don't notice any side effects. Also, avoiding egg whites seems to be very helpful for clear skin but the yolks keep slipping out of my hands and down the drain! ugh! Good luck with the CGM! That sounds interesting.
@jiriwiesner
@jiriwiesner 2 жыл бұрын
When you are trying to separate egg white from the yolk you need to break the egg in half and use the egg shells to keep the yolk from slipping anywhere. Just transfer the yolk from one egg shell half to the other, each time getting rid of some of the egg white. My grandmother taught me that. It works. I've never lost an egg yolk.

A really easy way to remove yolk from egg whites is you crack the egg in a boil and then use a turkey baster to suck up the yolk. It's pretty simple

I became addicted to banana nice cream when I was vegan for 2 years and I haven't been able to kick the craving. Downside is I want it and always eat it as a breakfast. I've been transitioning to a more carnivore diet, slowly kicking out pasta and bread etc and veg. I'm down to grapes and bananas only but I'm struggling because I notice a positive affect on my body and energy (and now that your showing dry scalp I'm wondering if bananas are more of an issue than I think!!) when I eliminate the banana nice cream, but its so yummy! Do you think it would be better to replace it with some homemade ice cream (maybe with a bit of honey)?

Qualifier: If you are a diabetic and wanting to control blood sugar, I would not eat fruit. I tried a few small portions fruits (with my CGM) and the spiking and slow return to normal was not good (I am a Type 2 diabetic, just got to a A1c of 5.6). You are lucky to have a lot of insulin to counteract that sugar! Maybe I will be metabolically healthy at some point.

Interesting. One thing you didn't mention. Whenever i cheat with fruit, sweets, or starches, i quickly fall out of ketosis. My energy drops, my inflammation raises, my fog comes back. I've learned to really love being in ketosis and that feeling is better than the feeling from eating sweets, fruits, or French fries 🍟

I just happen to stumble on you and I found it quite interesting.. I’m not even I usually ask other carnivore people who do it for a long time how often do they get their blood checked out for cholesterol levels and things like that? Problem with the most fruits is it’s full of natural sugars, sounds healthy, but I guess you’re fine if you eat them in moderation. Avocados however, I love avocados grew up on them, they are so good for your heart and body.

Carbs do the same to me with the being hungry part. If I just add a piece of fruit to my regular lunch, I am crazy hungry a couple hours later and even after I eat dinner I’m still hungry for two or three hours. I have found that if you eat the carbs with your first meal of the day and follow it with exercise, it makes it a little easier, if I carbs with my second meal of the day I’m hungry all night long just craving food like crazy

i had a similar situation, and it was way stronger in response, after trying the fruit when in ketosis and becoming fat adaptive....the craving for more was insane, and nearly uncontrollable...not sure why, how the physiology worked that way....but i see the point / the benefit to limiting it to one fruit a day...
@ShaneZettelmier
@ShaneZettelmier Жыл бұрын
@@dannyweiss9701 it’s because our bodies have become addicted to sugar and carbs, just sugar and food. It’s not a nutrient it’s just a measurement of how much sugar is in that food. Our bodies are addicted to us. It’s like drugs. It triggers an endorphin response and dopamine. It’s very mental. You can even drink a diet soda with no calories or fat or sugar in it and it can still trigger your insulin hormones just because of the taste. Before we went to Keto and stopped eating all the sugar that was our normal state constantly craving these foods with her hormones are confused and sending incorrect signals to our bodies. When you stop eating that stuff and you’re eating correctly, your cravings are to tell you what you need. If you’re craving salt, you just eat salt if you’re craving fat, you just eat some fat and it gets fixed. But sugar doesn’t do that sugar screws up our hormones and it triggers the cravings I haven’t had bread or pizza or anything like that for almost 2 years and the other day I got a piece of pizza and a doughnut and for the next day and a half hours feeling really hungry and unsatisfied, and just had to kind of mentally stick it out and it corrected itself. Our bodies can handle that once in a while but we have to realize that when we have the sugar or starch and carbs that it’s going to do exactly that and it’s going to be rough for a day or two.
