So 10 years ago I was homeless with severe drug addictions in the middle of the winter with a shotgun in my mouth and this song came on the radio and for some reason spoke to me to help me understand I can be better. It's funny that so many people, myself included, feel joy, nostalgia, and peace in this song. Because the song is about the suffering, ageing, and death in the world and how god 'never sent me no letter'. It's a condemnation of a power that could stop the suffering and make itself known, but doesn't. But it's maybe the fact that it's so chill and conversational about it that makes it almost like 'god doesn't care, but that's okay'. Like it's letting go of expectations that there is a god that can or will step in. That life is what it is.
