The entire Ten album is amazing. Jeremy was the first song I heard when I was about 9. Evenflow, Alive, and Oceans were the other singles. This song was popular without ever being released as a single. It's a personal song for Eddie and he didn't want it to be highly publicized. It took off purely on radio requests from fans. Reached #3 on the charts without being pushed by the bands label.

Eddie threatened to quit the band and tear up their record contact when Epic pushed the band to make an MTV music video for "Black". Regardless, the whole A-side of Ten ended up getting regular radio airplay, *all six* songs. Few debut albums, if any, can say that. That's how good Ten was. And that's not even throwing the B-side Yellow Ledbetter into the conversation.

I grew up with Pearl Jam in the 90's and this song, specifically that iconic line of you'll be a star in somebody else's sky, still conjures up the heartbreak, regrets, and what could have been. Pearl Jam is one of the greatest Live rock bands of all time. This is a great early performance and Pearl Jam are still making albums and selling out giant stadiums. There is literally 30 years worth of incredible Live performances from this epic band.

Pearl Jam came out in the early 90's from the Seattle rock scene w/ Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Alice In Chains... they were associated w/ the 90's 'grunge rock' scene that took over America and the world back in 1992 - '94, but they lasted quite a bit longer. Pearl Jam's debut album 'Ten' in 1991 actually outsold Nirvana's iconic 'Nevermind' album (also 1991)... 12 million copies in the US to date, thanks to the huge hit single 'Jeremy' that had a dark music video in 1992... 'Even flow' and 'Alive' were the other MTV singles, and 'Black' became a hit on radio. However, Pearl Jam did not embrace their newfound fame and refused to appear on MTV or do music videos for over a decade. After the death of vocalist Andrew Wood in 1990, Seattle rock band Mother Love Bone disbanded after the loss of their singer... 2 former members - Jeff Ament (bass) and Stone Gossard (guitar) decided to put a new rock band together w/ Mike McCready (guitar) and Dave Krusen (drums)... They picked Eddie Vedder (lead vocals) and named the band Pearl Jam in 1991. Signing w/ Epic Records, they recorded the 1st album 'Ten' before replacing Krusen w/ Dave Abbruzese (drums) and releasing the album in the fall of 1991. With Nirvana breaking big late in '91, the label focused on promoting Pearl Jam and pushed the singles 'Even flow' and 'Alive' on MTV as sales for 'Ten' started to take off... The band did 'MTV Unplugged' in the Spring of '92. The powerful music video for 'Jeremy' pushed the album to #2 on the US charts later that year. Rather than promote Pearl Jam in the media, the band withdrew from the spotlight... Their second album 'Versus' in 1993 reached #1 on the US charts and sold 7 million copies without any MTV appearances... only radio singles and concert tours ...and the band preferred to play that raw, guitar-oriented hard rock. Matt Cameron (drums) joined in 1998 until today. Pearl Jam kept recording and releasing albums in the 90's, but they sold less... by 2000 and started to play more of a stoner rock style of music like The Grateful Dead than 90's 'grunge rock'... They kept the sound basic - raw guitars, bass, drums and vocals... and they maintained their popularity worldwide to this day. Other Pearl Jam classics - 'Animal' ... 'Better man' ... 'Given to fly' ... 'Evacuation' ... 'Daughter' ... 'Nothing as it seems'... 'Life wasted'... 'Release'... 🔥🔥🤘🤘

My first PJ song was "Alive", from the 10 album. Keep watching Unplugged tunes from this performance! The band -- and especially Eddie Vedder -- give it their all and it's amazing! One song I love is "State of Love & Trust". It RIPS!! This whole performance is magic!

This freaking song kills me every time...the pain of losing his wife in divorce is brutal and the love he has for her that even through the agony of losing her, he knows that it's because he has to love her and wish her the best on the way out the door...I know the feeling to Love that deep, but if you really Love her, you Lover her enough to let her go...This song was great then and is just as great now....I saw this air on MTV it was a mind blowing performance.

The first PJ song I heard was Alive and it was around the release of the album Ten. I've been a huge fan ever since. Jeremy is probably my favourite PJ song. Just the sound of it, and the power of its subject matter. But there are SO, SO many good PJ songs.

Love your reaction. I feel it too, every time I hear it. First heard Pearl Jam when the album “Ten” was a new release in early 90s. “Alive” was the first song I heard, browsing a record shop near my college campus and the clerk played it. I liked them at the time, but preferred the edgier sound of bands like Nirvana. PJ had a commercial sound to my ear, but they grew on me quickly. Awesome performer, too.

Hey we’re out when stone temple pilots and nirvana and soundgarden where huge and it was a badass time for music with the grunge bands filling the charts! Great song and reaction! My favorite song from Pearl Jam is “evenflow” it’s a great song too!

I love this band , the origin of this band is a sad but awesome story. So there was this band called Mother Love Bone , and Andrew Wood had over dosed and passed away. So this guy named Chris Cornell decided to do a tribute album and tour , called the project Temple of the Dog and asked his good friend Eddie Vedder to do a couple vocal tracks on the project. A few of the other member were former members of Mother Love Bone like Stone Gossard and Mike McCreedy. After the project , they formed Pearl Jam. The Song I like the most is "Alive" or Jeremy. Don't hesitate to look into Mother Love Bone though~

I think this is one of the best vocal performances ever and I've watched a lot of people react to it. Some listen more to his voice and don't always catch the amazing lyrics. But when he said you'll be a star in somebody else's sky, I saw you wince. It's such a powerful, emotional line.

Even Flow was probably the first PJ song I heard on the radio. Funny thing is I heard the Muzak version at the Dr.'s office last week. Don't let the MTV acoustic set throw you off. They may be called "grunge", but they are truly ROCK. They're still going strong after 30 years.. And I've never seen Eddie sing that he didn't pour his soul into, that's why I tend to prefer live performances. Most people suggest songs off their first album "Ten", but they are so much more.

Vedder is 1 of the most passionate vocalists to come out of grunge. Also, they protested Ticket Master over their fees. Event insurance companies wouldn’t cover them sometimes because Ed had a habit of climbing scaffolding, trusses and rigging, to deadly heights and would hang off and sing. And though they have been through multiple drummers, they have the 1 they always wanted now.

Alive was the first Pearl Jam song I heard. You should react to the studio version. There's a music video but it's different from the studio version. Also Even Flow(music video), Jeremy (music video), Porch (Unplugged), Animal, Daughter, Go, Rearviewmirror, Rats, Last Exit, Not For You, Corduroy, Nothing man, Better Man, Immortality, Who You Are, Present Tense, Hail, Hail. Off He Goes, Red Mosquito. I mean there're so many. Newer stuff. Mind Your Manners, Save You, Love Boat Captain, Sirens, Dance of the Clairvoyants, and others

I've seen this quite a few times and this shows why talented rockers can make so much money. This is one of their most popular songs, so it's likely a part of most, if not every tour. If Eddie doesn't give it his all and relive the breakup, every performance, the fans will know. That's like a 4-5 minute mental, emotional, physical trauma inflicted on yourself. 4 days a week for 4 months or so (for 30 years now and still bringing it!). And it's only one song in a show that is generally 2-3 hours of high energy.
