Hi!🐾 thanks for the videos during the lockdown period. I miss the days when I was doing the haylage nets and the feeds as well as the shavings. Thanks anyway for the vids.

Such a smart decision to avoid putting yourself at risk of injury from riding at this point in time! I've decided to take the time of lockdown to slowly bring my horse back into work from the ground up, since I'm not confident being the first rider on after a good year off. Avoiding danger is so important! Also I laughed so much at all of Charlie's coat that brushed off!

I think that bringing Charlie back into work is a great decision. Regarding his condition, you can see that he carries a large amount of his weight in his stomach/barrel. Due to being out of work he has lost quite a bit of muscle on his top line and hindquarters particularly which makes him look thinner to you. Instead of upping his feed (feed in accordance with work done) I would suggest focusing on getting him back into work. Forage is an exception.Once he has been introduced to work, I would look into using raised poles in the walk and trot both ridden and on the lunge. This is a great exercise to get him lifting through the core/back and using his hind in order to help build muscle and get him off the forehand. A bungee is also a great way of getting them working long and low to help build that topline which will improve his overall muscle condition. Obviously I know you aren’t going to listen to that as you have no idea who I am and therefore makes it an untrustworthy source however just thought as an equine student/groom/horse owner it’s always handy to hear different ideas to look into. All the best x
@ellenohara27704 жыл бұрын
Lily xox This just made me realise that might be going on with my pony! Going to focus on lots of raised poles now! Thank you very much 😊

Wait what is Charlies condition I am very new to her channel
@lilyxox91194 жыл бұрын
Jessica Patterson Ellen O'Hara I am just referring to his weight and muscle distribution and how much he has of each compared to the ideal. If you research condition scoring either from 1-9 or 1-5 it’s a good way for you to educate yourself on the horses weight and areas you can look at to assess a horses condition such as their neck, barrel, hind quarters and any fat pockets they may have e.g. behind the shoulder is a common place.This doesn’t necessarily apply to their muscle distribution. You can tell their condition by looking at any horse and assessing them, obviously it can be more difficult when the horse isn’t actually in front of you. You don’t have to know the horse/person it’s just visually assessing the animal. 😊

So good to see Charlie again! Did he get tested for Cushings? As soon as he came on screen I saw the coat, the belly, weight and muscle loss, and then heard respiratory issues and my mind went straight to Cushings. If that is the case, work will definitely benefit him!

Thank you for making these videos, it is so important to have up beat things to watch to help us "get away" from reality for a few moments! have to go out 4/3/20. I am also very nervous about going. I have been all alone since before the lock down & I don't mind when there is a real cause! I also have animals & must get food for them & me! I am going to take all kinds of safety precautions, rubber gloves, mask, hand sanitizer...remove my cloths & wash them right away when I get home. I am prepared to change in my garage & then I spray the floor with bleach. I will change gloves more than once IF I have to go to more than 1 store! Charlie was so cute yesterday learning that "raising his upper lip"! He's a smart guy!!!!! I love horses so much that just watching them eating in a field, or standing is good for me.

Not if the saddle fits properly! Charlie has had his saddle professionally fitted :)
@littlepeanut23054 жыл бұрын
I think it would very good for Charlie if you shorten his mane and his feathers. They really hinder the horse from being as active as it could be. The hair is very heavy and he has not much muscle on his upper neck or hind. I did it with my pony when I first got her. I clipped her partly so she wouldn’t sweat as much, I shortened her mane and removed her feather which allowed her to move a lot more freely. I know it’s kind of hard to cut of all that precious hair but once he is a bit fitter it can grow out again and he will be able to carry the hair‘s weight much better :)

Hi, unfortunately you shouldn't ride because if you fall your putting added stress on the NHS and A&E when they should be focusing on helping patients tested positive. Chances are your riding school is closed anyway but if it isn't you need to make a sensible decision. Again though it won't be open. X

This could go on for 100000 years. No one can ever know. We all think 6 months is a long time, we really don't know. We don't know when it's going to end or if it will ever end. But as long as people don't go out (unless absolutely necessary) then this should be able to pass by. we all just need to do our part. Sorry I'm starting to sound like the government, lmao!!
