Jams and Jellies are not the same thing they're similar though (yes jam is interchangeable with jelly as an option) yes you can pan fry a PB&J like a grilled cheese . Also the PB Sandwich combos are as followed; PB&J, PB&Banana, PB&fluff , PB&Banana+Fluff.

Wish there had been one American there to explain to her that even in American vernacular, jelly is distinct from jam (which I know is confusing for Brits 'cause jelly means something else to them so, they always think jelly is our word for jam but, it's not). I don't know if they specifically used jam or jelly on that sandwich (should've been jelly just to be a more traditional PB&J) but, jelly, jam, and preserves are all distinct foods over here. They're all similar enough to be used on a peanut butter sandwich but... all made very differently with different textures.

Jelly: Jelly is made with strained fruit juice. There are no pieces of fruit in jelly. Jam: Jam is made with mashed fruit. Preserves: Preserves have whole fruit or large pieces of fruit.

Jelly is made from fruit juice and jam from crushed fruit!
