I'm sure all the caretakers on the wall were mistreating him. I believe the filmmaker did this to highlight the major issue of abusive and negligent care of seniors. Elder abuse really, really gets to me. It's right up there with people who torture animals. These people have worked hard their whole lives, have so much wisdom, given so much to their kids and grandkids, and some piece of shit is really gonna treat them like trash when they finally need help?! It pisses me off so much, dude...

Lily is Mr Bernani's deceased wife. Staying on Earth to make sure her husband is ok. He probably is rich but has most of his money put in his will so it can't be touched. Even so, there should never be a reason to be that aweful.
