To use the two serial ports, only Port 2 is available on the 'User Pins' on the board and one of the I/Os (io2) on the 'User Pins' is shared with the TF memory card. The power brought to these units with the FABGL library is mind blowing, a pure work of genius. ************************************ ** FabGL GPIOs assignment summary ** ************************************ **** VGA boards: VGA HSync => 23 VSync => 15 R0 => 21 R1 => 22 G0 => 18 G1 => 19 B0 => 4 B1 => 5 Audio AUD => 25 PS/2 - Keyboard DAT => 32 CLK => 33 PS/2 - Mouse DAT => 27 CLK => 26 SDCard - HSPI MOSI => 17 (12 on TTGO/WROVER) MISO => 16 (2 on TTGO, 35 WROVER) CLK => 14 CS => 13 UART - UART1 (USB) RX => 3 TX => 1 UART - UART2 RX => 34 TX => 2 (not usable on TTGO/WROVER with SDCard active)

Great info. This board is so reminiscent of my early computing days with the Commodore Vic 20. The example sketch for that was a hoot. Thanks.

Hi, I like the video up to the point where ... I installed the Arduino IDE v2.0.2, when I get to the board manager I don't see any esp32 stuff to install even after waiting more than a few minutes???

Hello. Try this URL in preference / board manager URLs: raw.githubusercontent.com/espressif/arduino-esp32/gh-pages/package_esp32_index.json It seems the have changed it since I made this video.

Does this device have a working serial interface ? A tiny ANSI terminal using PS/2 and VGA for $10 is a great idea.

It has solder points for 3.3v, GND and 6 IO pins. I imagine you could write something around SoftwareSerial. Dang I forgot! It has a TF card slot too! www.aliexpress.us/item/2251832855287283.html

Any idea where to get the SER to UART driver for Windows? Arduino IDE port menu is greyed out. (no VCP / serial port driver) TTGO VGA32 V1.4 device shows up in windows device list but has no driver. VGA32 board boots into built in audio test and that works so board is good. Just can't find driver for the CH9102F SER-UART chip on the board so can't get Arduino IDE to 'see' the board.. Any help finding appropriate driver would be much appreciated..

I am a lillygo fan, strange that this board has been around for 2 years and I am just hearing about it. I guess I have let my interest wane a bit of late. Cancer sort of does that to a fellow. Thankfully my doctor tells me I have the "good" cancer, one that can be cured by the removal of my right kidney which I had done just before last Christmas, that was a trip, if there ever was one. I am still reeling after the treatment, I had just seen my wife loose her life to stomach cancer and that was not a pretty sight, before that I saw both my sisters die of the dreaded disease. I don't know what Cancer God we pissed off but I am glad he blessed me with a curable version. I just ordered 3 of these little boards so I can play with them, I still have 3 of the watches that they came out with, never did really do much with them as their batteries never really allowed them to be a real watch unless you went with just the basic watch sketch. I have the little boards with screens they are cool, have on doing my local weather for me, another still new in the box sitting awaiting a sketch that I find useable. This will allow me to get back to my Commodore days, I started out big with the C=128 but later bought a plus4 and several 64's for toys when the price dropped on them. Still have an old VIC20 in the back room under some pentium machines that I used to build for sale, or take in in trade for bigger units in the day. Can't wait for my new toys to arrive from Banggood.

Wow! Hearts and prayers to you and your family. You have been through a lot. It's good we have these trivial things to capture our interest for a time and allow us to imagine, explore and create. Yeah, I have been around since the TRS-80 days, senior year in high school we had the first one in the district. I got the VIC-20 when it first came out. Keep on making, keep on creating. Best wishes friend.

When I go to upload the Vic20 program my IDE ( Auduino ) says there is not enough memory to upload the code. Wonder if I got a fake device.

TTGO VGA ESP32 - automatic display of short texts every 24 hours Hello everyone, I am working on a project using TTGO VGA ESP32 and FabGL. I would like the device to display short texts (about 20-30 words) during the day, changing every 24 hours to another but different 30 words, for example from a notepad on an SD card. I wonder how to best automate this. Does FabGL offer any functions for scheduling tasks or displaying text at specific intervals? I thought about several solutions, e.g.: Table of texts: Storing texts in an array and displaying the next element every 24 hours. Text file: Loading text from a file on an SD card and changing the file every 24 hours. RTC: Using the RTC module to measure time and trigger the display of new text. Which solution will be the easiest to implement with FabGL? Do you have any other ideas or ready solutions? I would be grateful for any tips.

@@ShotokuTech Yes indeed, I wanted to make an independent terminal to use with an 8080 CPU kit board and this is the solution. Although in some ways it makes the need for an 8080 kit board redundant :-)
