You don't even notice the difference and you can make them in any shape you want! I always get a lot of compliments on them, and people are surprised it's basically just painted straws 😂 Let me know how it goes!

Hi what paint did you use? Did you have to prime the straws 😊

Himmeli is an old Finnish Christmas decoration, made from hay straws and yarn, they kinda look like chandeliers. They were hung from the cottage ceilings. It's pronounced /ˈhimːeli/ and the word is derived from the Swedish word himmel, meaning sky or heaven. I'll most likely make the 30-piece one, I like that shape a lot
@DIYwithLily4 жыл бұрын
Oh awesome! In German we also use Himmel for sky, so I always wondered if there was a connection!

I tried it out and i love it!!! I didnt have wire so i used wool, needless to say it took about 3 hours just to get the structure (i made the one with the 30 straws) thank you so much for making this video 😄😄😄😄
@DIYwithLily7 жыл бұрын
Thank you 💖 Oh, I feel yah... When I tried to make it the first time around, I used some transparent nylon thread, and omg, I couldn't get it to stay put! 😂 Even with tons of knots, somewhere it ended up always being a bit loose and the whole thing collapsed! I actually admire the fact that you were able to make it work!!!
@madamecochon-swinia-varken67737 жыл бұрын
It was actually really hard to make it because i had to use only one thread and it was super long and it always took ages just to put one thread through the straw and it was also very hard to put wool in a straw that already had wool in it because its thick but in the end it looked very nice and i love the way it turned out i am very thankful for your video :-)

Omg thank you! Was trying to find these online for our center pieces and they are going for $20-$50 per piece, that's a lot of money since we would need 20 of then. I didnt even think of using straws, but I'm glad you made this video. ❤
@DIYwithLily5 жыл бұрын
Ohh! Yep, that would add up to quite a sum 🙀 And you would end up with 20 himmeli sculptures in the end 😂 A few looks cute in a home, 20 not so much! Hahaha

A couple of tips! - make sure you don’t use the bendy straws. If you include the bendy part, it’s likely to make your piece look a little lopsided - if you’re like me and too lazy to do the copper wire, try glue dots instead! This will hold together the pieces, but still flexible enough to move it around as needed. Glue dots inside the piece, then hot glue at the end outside. - Don’t use normal thread! This will just make everything more complicated - if you think you can get away with only using hot glue… you’re wrong 😂 *speaking from experience Hope this helps someone :)
