Despite these being obvious and commonsensical, the problem is those who condoned the policy makers
@pgobservers4 күн бұрын
Alright, time to serve up some solid rebuttals: 1. @BensSocialClub: Wah, your “ownself check ownself” line very catchy ah, can become meme liao. But let’s not anyhow oversimplify lah. You think government is primary school group project meh, can just “ownself grade ownself”? There are checks and balances in place, from audits to reviews, plus everyone can see and hold them accountable. You see the unmasking issue now got fixed fast right? If truly “ownself praise ownself,” then why bother improving? Your point sounds shiok but bo substance lah. 2. @LonganLee: Eh bro/sis, you say “commonsensical” like it’s some ultimate argument, but where’s the logic? Policies aren’t made in a vacuum-got consultations, reviews, and even public feedback along the way. Condone what? If every policy kena 100% opposition before even trying, Singapore still stuck in 1965 leh. Real talk, things go wrong sometimes, but important is how fast it gets fixed, not just whacking everyone involved. Use brain, not just fingers to type, can? In short: don’t just repeat internet slogans or sound chim without backing lah. If want criticize, at least be constructive, otherwise just making noise only.

Wah lao eh, all these comments ah, kena until like government purposely want to jialat people like that. Let me slowly rebut, one by one: 1. @yukimi465: “Second time J Teo apologize but never kena demote, got super hard backing ah?” Eh, you think government is drama show ah? One mistake then straightaway must kena demote? She apologize because she represent lah, doesn’t mean every little thing she personal fault. You want demote everyone, next time who dare step up to lead? Think carefully lah. 2. @musico3415: “She not apologize for mistake, only say citizens sad.” Bro (or sis), apology got so many types one leh. This one is “I hear you and we learn from it” type, not “I bang table, you bang wall” type. You expect what? Cry on TV and self-slap meh? At least she acknowledge feelings, some countries leaders just act blur one. 3. @michael8372: “Circular from MDDI never say unmask, ACRA reckless, Indranee should apologize.” Bro, don’t suka suka anyhow point finger. ACRA’s job is to comply with guidelines, and anyway they now patch things already. Also, Indranee not Harry Potter, she cannot magic every agency to perfect overnight lah. Let them fix, no need always say sorry this, sorry that. 4. @LonganLee: “New gov can check on them more.” Wah, this one confirm kopi tiam talk sibei standard. New gov come in also human lah, not robots. Change for fun ah? You think play soccer, can change player every game meh? Steady lah, let them improve, don’t need reset button every time got mistake. End of the day ah, all these comments just show people dulan but maybe don’t understand fully lah. Don’t worry, system already improving. Next time unmask NRIC no need so kan cheong, got better safeguards now. Steady pom pi pi lah, ok? 10:03

@@musico3415 Because the PAP has this old-fashioned thinking - "once someone admits or apologises for mistake, they are taken as weak leaders." Do you agree? We are in a new political landscape, and the PAP is still living in the old age? Should leaders admit to mistakes? Of course they should! We all make mistakes. We're all human. Many of us would like our leaders to be more "human" in the sense of showing to the public world more of their fallibility, vulnerability, and honesty. Many of us, I believe, would respect our leaders more if they did this. We could connect emotionally with them more because they would seem like us mere mortals, who have problems, make mistakes, and suffer genuine emotions like the rest of humanity. Do you think all our PAP ministers behaved in this way?

Regulations are set by regulators. It's not that these are rocket science. But because someone is tasked the responsibility to do that job and having been given the power to do that by the Voters who determine who stays AS ruling party, they are supposed to communicate that clearly to the people. Else, without full understanding of the law, can you blame the People if they broke a law unknowingly? We tasked you to do the job. Else we can do it ourselves. But no, we let you do it. If we let you do it, it's your responsibility to ensure the public knows the regulations clearly. Simply put, one cannot say stewpid things like "it's on the website already. If you don't understand that's your problem", just to illustrate my point. For example, cpf policies is tweaked multiple times till most do not fully understand absolutely clearly all the cpf policies. One must not talk rot by saying, everything about cpf is on the website . Therefore, not responsible. False! Why? Because Public Policy need to be communicated fully clearly to the Public which by definition comprise all sorts of people. It would not be fair to the many who are not able to understand all the lingo and jargons. Do policy makers expect the People to explain the Policies to themselves or is it the job of those coming up the policies to Make sure the public understands beyond reasonable doubt? I hope my point is clear. Btw , I need a IB to skin it slowly for fun

So much time/money was spent to clarify and understand why NRICs needed to be masked. We had no choice but accepted the decision to go ahead. Now when this 'unmasking' issue first came to light, I was shocked why the need to reverse all that. What happened recently that needed the people to be educated again the purpose of NRIC?

As for the apology, it’s not just “say sorry, full stop” to shut people up. They acknowledged miscommunication, clarified guidelines, and now trying to fix the problem. You think they enjoy facing Singaporeans’ fury meh? This not drama show, no “cut and redo” option one. Some years ago, the govt. required that NRICs info should be masked out in banking statements. I was happy with this govt. initiative, because seeing my name and NRIC on a hardcopy statement, which can be dropped wrongly by a postman into someone's letterbox is very uneasy for a recipient. In addition, another initiative that security office cannot retain our physical NRICs of a person when visiting an office (?). Now if I read this fiasco correctly, the govt. now is saying it is fine to openly display this NRIC info on a public domain. Why is there an inconsistency on the govt's position ? Hope someone can correct my above comments if I'm wrong.

Eh @timstim487, the situation here is simple lah - the ACRA officer really blur sotong, misunderstood the guidelines. Nobody asked to anyhowly unmask NRIC numbers like opening CNY angbao in public. Now after so many hours of press conference, so many videos circulating on social media, everybody clarifying until voice hoarse already. Even the officer also finally say, “Oops, my bad!” and admit same mistake. Miscommunication, not conspiracy, bro (or sis?). NRIC is proof of identity, yes, but not meant to be your password or ATM PIN lah. The actual guideline all along is: don’t anyhowly use NRIC for authentication. Singpass already got additional layers of security, not just your NRIC number. Think about it: your name also identifies you, but you won’t use your name as a password, right? Same logic. So let’s cut the drama and focus on the real issue - making sure everyone, including agencies, follows the proper rules and doesn’t blur blur make mistakes again.凸2 returned to sender!

Eh @martinng72, say U-turn so easy ah, but you think carefully, is it really a U-turn or just clarifying the road sign? 1. Perception vs. Reality: NRIC is important, but the key message is: don’t use it recklessly. The guidebook you mention is meant to educate people and businesses not to anyhowly collect and use NRIC numbers. Waste of money meh? If people still blur and anyhow use NRIC, maybe need to print even more guidebooks. 2. Not a U-Turn: The government never said “make NRIC your public profile pic.” They’ve always advised against using NRIC for authentication or as a password. What they’re saying now is consistent: NRIC is an identifier, not your secret PIN. It’s like telling you not to use your phone number to lock your safe. Logical, right? 3. 凸1: Wah, your emoji skills are on point ah. But instead of pointing fingers, maybe point to the part where the guidebook also talks about safeguarding and transitioning to alternative methods. It’s not wasted effort; it’s groundwork for better practices. Bottom line, no need so drama lah. This isn’t F1 U-turn; this is just everyone trying to get on the same page. Chill, bro! (Or sis?)
