Hi Philip. I'm looking at buying some of your stay alive assemblies for my diesels. However forgive me but what I don't understand is how 2.7v capacitors will work on dcc which I assume has a working voltage at the terminals more like 12v or there abouts? Many thanks Gary

Hi Gary the caps are arranged in series so the units are good for track voltages up to 18v. Thanks for your interest! ~Philip

@@fildowns Thanks for the quick answer Philip. Being in series would allow it to cope with the voltage, yes, but that means the capacity is now only approx 0.15F

Yes the units are made from 1F super caps, total storage is 143k uF it keeps big Heljan 0 gauge twin motor diesel with sound going for a few seconds. Also good for the classic Hornby or Lima ringfield where there is space for it (and where the motors are hungrier than they are nowadays). The new locos don't have the room - neither do they need such a large capacity of course. I would usually adjust the CV that limits the time of operation from DC backup, (though of course that implies a quality decoder) so that after a derail it doesn't carry on off the layout onto the floor! 🙂

@@fildowns When I saw the web shop I read 1F which focussed my attention. Maybe it should say 145mF. However if it's got the guts to power the old Lima garbage that well, then it's got to be good enough in my book. Thanks for clearing that up.
