Hello and welcome to this new video.
Many many thanks for allowing me to surpass 500 subscribers.
In this video i attempt to restore a Lima GWR railcar, repairing and fitting a DCC decoder. And make a couple of school boy errors along the way.
Many thanks to Matt at Trains4u for helping with the DCC decoders.

Very informative video! Nice logical order to it. I have two Lima 73’s which will get the same treatment, plus CD motors. Thanks for posting. Why can I hear a 66 idling in the background…? You have a like and a new subscriber! Best wishes from Wirral.

Perfect video for me as have this exact model in the project box I picked up for next to nothing in a "job lot". Mine was also dead and its running again, just need to source the new traction tires as its spinning its wheels like road runner. Cheers

I've often fitted extra pick ups to traction tyre wheels on lima no bo bos. You'd be surprised the difference it makes even though they only help when the flanges touch the rail. Lots of reminiscences of Dawlish with your layout. Nice video Dan

Brilliant models I have 3Lima rail cars, 1 passenger and 2 parcels express great runners.👍

Good job! The only thing I can add is if you tin both surfaces (ie the wire and the brass strip first) then the two joints will go together much easier. The use of flux is always a good idea, despite the multicore solder having flux in it.

Belated congrats on 500+. Another good video Dan, warts and all! I don't feel so bad when I see others making the same mistakes as I do (I thought I was the only one!). The railcar is a nice loco and would be ideal for a 'shuttle' layout, going back and forth. Incidentally, I have two n-gauge railcars (by Farish) and I'm working one the green version just now. Till next time, take care. Cheers, Jim L

Good for you. I’ve subscribed 😉😉 500 eh? My mum always said I was a late developer. So here I am. Great job. Love the sea wall on your layout which reminds me of the section I had along one wall of my cellar on my old layout. Though on mine thé cliffs were Dawlish style red sandstone

For your wire connectors on the weight - you can get model railway copper clad strips - they are copper on insulation and are easily cut to a desired length with a hobby or small hacksaw. You glue the insulated side directly to the weight and solder to the copper. No risk of melting insulation tape. One manufacturer is Railroom Electronics .. bound to be others.

Dan you do realise that those buffers need to come out every time you need to get to the motor

Yes i do, just using a small amount of Locktite allows the buffers to be removed quite easily. After filming i had to remove the body twice, once to rectify the bogie and wiring issue and once to change decoders. .

Class 66 idling in the background at app 25 minutes?

Yes indeed. I did this loco whilst working a quiet box on a Sunday. 66717 was idling on a adjacent siding for a while, it was in the original footage but was lost in the edits.
