Great video…I recently moved from NC where trees are mostly spars to Missouri where there is a lot of limbwalking. I have a hard time walking on a branch that angles up. What tips do you have?
@Wildwoodjake7 ай бұрын
I’d suspect the first helpful thing would to not wear my spurs if possible .

Turn around and face your tie in and walk up the back side of the lean while leveraging against your tie in. I demonstrate it at about 1:23:20 in this video.

It always possible to not wear spurs on a prune😃 learn to leverage your tie in and your lanyard. Sometimes utilize two tie in points with two ropes.

Really enjoyed the raw extended video. Nice to see the everyday struggles of a climber and not just the glory shots out on the tips. New climbers will always learn more from the journey out to the tips then clips of u out on the tips (route planning, rope management, re-directs, work positioning etc) stay safe bro ✌🏻

So,back when I was climbing or even with the bucket truck- I rarely did big pruning jobs. Just not enough $$ to warrant the time. And pruning is always harder than removing. Don't climb anymore due to health problems, but I was never in your league. You're a beast!

Very nice work the pony dragging tail setup was sweet. 2 Swabish n an akimbo look at you go. Best content around. I used a 2 n 1 exactly like that until I dropped a rack of coconuts in the loop between and was nut up to the trunk trying to lift em up. I find it much nicer now to have 2 setup, one I keep in a bag stowed neatly n ready for 10 ft drt use on second bridge or center d’z . It is great to move my legs freely again climbing. Maybe give it a shot to see what you think all respect not trying to tell you what to do or criticize. Great climb you are the legendary. 180 degree lower krab for spine spine

Yeah, I’ll probably set something like that up. Not like I don’t have a bunch of partial sections of rope from nicking mine up.😂 and a small bag would fit nicely on my saddle, along with all the other heavy things that I have😃

how do you make a monkey fist? a friend in college kept her keys on one! neat square knot! there are such great knots that people came up with for specific tasks you scare the heck out of me out on the branches and limbs ! tied in or not! being that high with in the canopy of the tree. what determines the pieces are alive vs dead. great video such an amazing skill to be up there and feel comfortable! or not looking scarred or concerned in your voice! great video!

The monkey fist I talk about is just a simple series of bites. The monkey fist your friend had as a keychain was a tightly tied not that does not come undone mine unfolds and falls back down to me.

You can manually adjust the playback speed yourself. See the cog symbol at top right of screen for the controls.

Enjoyed the video. Had to do a little skipping ahead, but got the gist of the situation. Climbing trees should be fun. I no longer limbwalk much as my balance has suffered as I've grown older (not to mention the mind is a little slower to react). Hope you enjoyed your foray through the tree.....it sure exhausted me. It will not get easier...but the good news is you will still be able to enjoy climbing, but in less stressful situations. Nice effort put forth in the tree. (Nite: I rarely, if ever, take pruning jobs. I need spurs to keep me safe and sane. I will spur a tree if customer accepts spurs after an explanation.)

I do a pull up exercise I referred to his “roll backs”. Chin up to the bar then roll my ankles to the bar as my arms let my torso down. It kind of mimics a foot lock motion in the extreme. I’m up to 20 reps on the first set and 12 reps on the second set with a five minute rest in between that’s approaching my 30-year-old self.😃 my feudal attempt to maintain my youth😂 but it’s working for now.
@havespurswillclimb7 ай бұрын
@@GameofTrees The problem you will run into will be joint damage. Joints do not age well. Proper exercise definitely helps, but it comes on with age. Exercise (mind and body) and fairly good diet does slows things down some. But, you face the "inevitable". Keep pushing brother.

Hey how do you feel about a rotating log grapple on a full size skid steer like the branch manager? Im looking at getting one for mine vs using a grapple bucket
@GameofTrees6 ай бұрын
I have a Ryan grapple for our Bobcat. I don’t like it. I don’t prefer branch manager, which we have one of also for a mini skid, but we have a beaver squeezer grapple for our intrepid, and we love that but a rotating grapple on a bobcat is very efficient.

I would keep your grapple bucket too. We have one they’re useful in different ways.

Hi Kev, I've got a ported Echo2511T like yours for several years. I am strongly considering the $$ for a battery saw though not sure why .... What is your reasoning for using each saw? Great video. Thanks for any insights on why to buy a battery saw :)
@GameofTrees7 ай бұрын
I like the battery size for recording they’re quieter. They’re also nice for early. Starts when you don’t wanna make noise in the neighborhood. I’m interested in getting a hold of the clutch driven husky 540i, waiting for my dealer to get it. I love the extreme lightweight aspect of the echo, and it seems to be more dependable than my 540 XP at least in the starting procedure. It’s definitely less fussy in changing weather.

While I know youz guys don’t talk fees often, I am really curious how much a prune on this big beauty costs. Flat fee, by the hour? Not a pro, just a homeowner.
@GameofTrees7 ай бұрын
It was $1600 in this case, for that one tree. We have formulas for pruning. Variances are added or subtracted depending on, height, spread, access and obstacles or hazards. So no tree is a set fee.
