I love Ahab's KR VA to bits, but I also cared about the words more than tone in this case. Still, I think it's a win-win that the dub is so unexpected that it makes you want to find the original again.

1:19:21 I interpreted Hermann's offer more as that by helping with Hermann's plot to destroy all other mirror worlds, Ahab will get to destroy all the pallid whales in those worlds. If the whale's world is destroyed, with the whale in it... that probably fits the definition of hunting and killing it closely enough to make Hermann's offer not complete gaslighting. Though the idea of Hermann out-gaslightlighting Ahab, the Gaslighting Champion, is extremely funny. Excellent video, especially loved the Nietzsche/EGO-Distortion analysis

37:37 One of the key missing things is just the literal name of the Abnormality: So That No One Will Cry. It's a creature that wants to make it so that others do not have to be sorrowful or weep, and it does so by burdening itself with curse after leaden curse. It's an apt stand-in for the Tearful Thing and its child entities being tortured by K Corp, in that context.

My friends and I have also realised that it's connected to the tags the League invented in order to help track lost children which later were used to watch workers. The name "So That No One Will Cry" sounds like something you'd call such an invention - it makes sure families are not separated. But also, eventually, the beneficial talismans become a way to harm people - tags become tracking devices for workers of the corporation.

I think an interesting point about the Fairy Gentleman is also that the drink is described of being made out of Fairies. Interesting too in my opinion is the fact that in Mirror Dungeon Events, the Gentleman has no negative outcomes except if you are actively hostile to him first. Accepting and Rejecting the Wine without being a downright asshole to him both have rewards. To me at least this comes off as the Fairy Gentleman being more a cannibal than a predator, as compared to Fairy Long Legs for example who explicitly "helps" you with the sole purpose of harming you. Gentleman is jovial, offers you drinks and such but he just... doesn't seem to do it to hurt you, at least in the events, he just lets you go even if you refuse his drink. For those reasons I personally always saw Fairy Gentleman as more of a traitor to the other Fairies, he doesn't go out of his way to eat *people* (but admittedly seems to not have any objections to it either if you fight him). Instead drinking wine made from literal fairies and evidently enjoying it enough to think others might too.

At the moment of the video release, 4th and 5th canto are still the most emotionally impactful chapters of Limbus Company for me. What I like the most about them, other than the themes being very relatable, is that they feel complete. You get better acquainted with the sinner, get through their whole story, and when the canto ends - they get a definite answer (unlike canto II for example, Rodya still waits for her time to shine I feel). And the answers that both Yi Sang and Ishmael get are incredibly hopeful, heartwarming and just... beautiful. Overcoming self-hatred and apathy, deriving from the comparison to an idealized version of yourself, for the sake of believing in the potential you can achieve? Being freed from an obsessive goal that has consumed your mind when you were lost and vulnerable, so that you can venture forth into your life with newfound excitement even when faced with uncertainty of the future? And the Dante's role in canto 5 as the main character and the leader, everything works perfectly. Even when I just start recalling the ending sequences in my head, or the associated Mili track comes up in my playlist, I get teary-eyed. And me getting teary-eyed is a very rarely occurring event, most of the time I can't make myself cry even if I want. Amazing video Tidu, you outdone yourself once more. I need you to get to limbillion subscribers so you can make more videos like that without having to care about anything else.

Oh yeah, as much as I think that Through Patches is my favourite Limbus-related Mili song so far, there is just something about Compass that instantly causes me to look out a window and ponder my life choices, even the instrumental version. Something magical about that guitar, maybe, but the association with C5's ending probably plays a role as well.

4:00 Eungbong is common name for "mountains" but as womans name... it's bit old-fashioned Like Agatha or Clara And named a shop after owner is old-fashioned too so, The name ' Eungbong 's chicken' is old-fashion times 2 4:48 This is old gag of korean From 1999's song 어머님께(for mother) The lyrics of this song is about realizing sacrifices of mother made for us when we were yong. Most Koreans know this because it's a song by G.O.D, The first top-tier idol(male) of Korea. And of course, many comedies have been made by twist its lyrics. Like This "When I said you can have whole meal because l hate that food, It's wsa literall son. lol" 19:45 Dongback Usually means RED CAMELLIA. But Dongback's E.G.O. is yellow flower because in 영남방언(south accent, authors native) Dongback means yellow spicebush But many people didn't know this and misunderstanding that story. Just like character DongBack hidden her true purpose And last, The pronounce 구인회 (league of nine) is more like Gu-In-hae Understandable mistakes, korean 회 in IPA is hoe

Canto 7 Spoilers: The whole Dante is Jesus theory actually gets more credence in the Canto 7 post credits scene. In that scene, Demian refers to Dante as “the fallen nebula”. If that statement is to be taken at face value, then Dante is literally a “being of the heavens sent to “Earth” who bears humanity’s sins” which fits the idea of Jesus as well.

46:58 Actually, since The City and The Head take after The Tale of Black Forest and the 3 Birds, we would be in the Apocalypse Bird phase of the tale i.e Twilight; With this in mind, what comes after Twilight is the Cold Night where the Sun and Moon no longer shine on the black forest( The city) and all that was left was the Bird and the Black Forest. 1:12:42 Speak of the Devil, i've reached an epiphany . Canto 5 is Twilight- Sunset and a wrathful beast who devours everything- Canto 6 is The Cold Night- The Sun and Moon no longer shine,no creatures and no beast just a bird(Hearl King)and the black forest(Wuthering Heights)- Canto 7 is Dawn - Don Quixote(father) is the 3 Birds but also Apocalypse Bird and when he dies we see the literal Sun rising implying the Birds twiterring in the forest has stopped, the Black forest being La MachaLand, in fact La MachaLand's story is a spin on the Tale of Black Forest, Bari is the prophet/nobody, Don Quixote is the 3 Birds/Apocalypse Bird, Sancho is the other birds that appear along side the Bird suppressions in Binah's Floor in Library of Ruina and the other Bloodfiends are the creatures of the Forest.

Oh shit links to the Yoo Chi-Jin works! Canto 4 got me into Korean poetry (enough that I'm considering learning the language, especially since I've heard reading it is surprisingly easy because of how the characters are phonetic) so I'm really glad that you've shared that source (and OP's username for that is so real, Canto 4 remains my second favorite behind 5, so I'm eating well with this one). The framing with Yi Sang/Dongbaek/Dongrang you did through the canto 4 section was what made me finally realize *why* it's called The Unchanging. I'm especially glad you mentioned the familiarity between Yi Sang and Kim Yu-Jeong because that's one of those emotional pieces that I adored in its adaptation into Limbus when I learned about it. Dongbaek remains the emotional crux of Canto 4 to me, and learning that changed the way I perceived that as a whole. That whole tangent with Nietzsche at the end was surprising, I don't know if it's intentional on PM's part but I think that's part of why these games are so compelling to me (as well as your videos on them in particular) is that they're so rich with meaning and ideas that making these kinds of connections is both possible and incredibly satisfying to do. It's part of why I'm very excited for Meursault's Canto, not just because I like the guy but because reading The Stranger got me into reading some of his other works, so I'm curious if the absurdism in his works will influence that on a greater scale as well.

This video is amazing! I was so excited for it, I think the final result payed out really well as someone who also adores Canto IV and all the historical-literary references throughout and God the theories about "existence comes before essence" and that these stories might have been repeating (which I kind of wonder why we have the La Manchaland IDs even though it was all 200 years ago before our Rodion, Gregor and Outis could concievably be born for example?) is so interesting, same for the Ubermensch analysis of EGO awakening....though also some other interesting thing I noticed: -The whole Canto IV dungeon is full of references to real Yi Sang's poems to the point it'd get insane to explain them all, but I'd like to point out how the first floor of the dungeon's layout is based on the diagram in Crow's Eye View no. 5 talking about "GREAT WINGS THAT CANNOT FLY, GREAT EYES THAT CANNOT SEE" which feels like a very direct nod to Yi Sang's state and journey going through it. Specially the mention of eyes taking in count we have things like Yi Sang "closing his eyes" at the world due to his emotional distress and "becoming blind" from the pills given to him at N Corp so that he couldn't notice the door to leave, and then we have Dongbaek losing her eye and being trapped in her warped worldview which was never made aware of the broader picture and could only look at what went wrong and what was lost due to trauma (literally only having one eye to see), which makes it interesting her aparition in the Farmwatch fight has both of her eyes again and seems much more calm and happier. On the other hand there's something more simple and subtle like Dongrang's glasses during The League times being round and changing them to squared one at K Corp, metaphorically and literally changing the frame of reference through which he sees the world, and of course the Tearful Thing itself being a giant eye. -Gubo talking to Yi Sang but not stopping him is kind of...interesting to me, because the dialogue still comes off as condescending and Yi Sang says Gubo's words back then hurt him deeply, that they felt like not trying to stop him but instead trying to taunt him, and Gubo closes that dialogue with "enjoy your rest then, I'll return when twilight arrives" which I feel is not discussed enough because of how...ominous it comes off as, like he knows that because of something that will happen in the future Yi Sang will unavoidably end up back with N Corp and the white room and treats letting Yi Sang go as more of a vacation for Yi Sang of some sorts, I'm kind of surprised how glossed the details of this conversation are. -Yi Sang's whole potato gag in Hell's Chicken is probs a reference to The Camellias too taking in count the story starts with the narrator refusing potatoes from Jumsoon and in this iteration instead Yi Sang doesn't want to let go of the potato no matter what probably referencing his grief over the League, even more since the potato is "burnt" just like how the place went in flames and Dongbaek ended up being disfigured forever in those flames. His Spicebush ID even talks about potatoes and chickens fighting in his idle lines. It's actually a bit crazy how The Camellias feels arguably on the same level of importance as The Wings even though the Limbus story doesn't have any direct coorelations with the events in The Camellias, with the Spicebush outside the League's lab window next to Yi Sang's desk and him looking into them through the mirror in the ED as well as the combined motifs of birds and flowers in Yi Sang's narrations and the old stage descriptions before the Canto VI update (I kind of wonder if that's why the original Season 2 trailer put such an emphasis on Dongbaek? We see these obscured flashes of her and Yi Sang when she stabs him in part 1 at the very end, and the TGS trailer for Canto V uses the image of her happy in the dungeon to represent IV) And also the the theory of EGO functioning like the Ubermensch somehow blows my mind even though it actually makes so much sense, it's like putting into definition something that felt kind of understood but never quite could put into words. But also I love the mention of book Ishmael's openmindedness because when we see her in Limbus she's kind of...the opposite. She rejects beliefs and ideas that aren't her own and shuts the others out for being "strange" despite her previous bond with Queequeg. It really feels like a sad show of how much what happened with Ahab affected her

@@LastMinuteEssays Yeah that one really intrigued me and makes me wonder if it has to do with the clock on Dante since it's getting close to Midnight, maybe we'll see him in one of the future Cantos (possibly the next one since it'd be a bit absurd if Jia Huan is not involved also possibly giving us insight into Hermann's group not to mention Honglumeng's themes of the pain caused by filial piety specially to a family that does not accept you or tries to mold you into something you are not with Gregor and Hermann's messed up relationship) More of an unrelated note but I think it's also curious about Sunshower how going by Heathcliff's dialogue in his Sunshower IDs he feels like the fox became like this because it was abandoned by a precious friend which left it heartbroken and unable to trust anyone and that's why he relates to it, definitely projecting his feelings towards Catherine here but also likely linking back to Dongbaek similarly feeling abandoned by the people she trusted (and probably Yi Sang the most, going by her dialogue when she stabs him), and that probably extends to the playable Sunshower EGO for Yi Sang and Outis specially taking in count Odysseus is betrayed a lot by his own men in The Odyssey and of course yearning to go back to his wife with the motif of the Fox Rain myth

dongrang manifesting an ego after turning into a peccatulum is really cool. it's sort of an inverse process to Phillip, for those who know. it's symbolic of someone who abandoned their hope, but pulled it back from the ash, even if he did become a middle manager of all things.

38:13 if we only take the "fox's wedding" story into account for Sunshower, Yi Sang having a beloved seems fitting since the only other playable sinners with Sunshower are Heathcliff (albeit as an ID based on Dongbaek) and Outis, who also have their own beloved (Catherine and Penelope respectively). As for the "false kindness" aspect, it certainly fits how Heathcliff sees his life before joining Limbus Company. It could be just a coincidence, or they pulled some galaxy brain moves while assigning IDs and EGOs to the Sinners. Either way, I adore Sunshower and one day I'll get to find out if Outis also checks both boxes like Heathcliff or not.

This area is mainly resetled by Spaniards, Italian, french,west african and indigenous people (in that order, except paraguay tho). So culture is similar but with a twist. So, I've watched till the 1:13:46, where religous/philosophical implications of EGO's are mentioned and I only have one thing to say: I'm glad I'm not the only one who had noticed the ubermensch implications of EGOes. Because it gnawed at me that seeminly no one was giving that Idea any thought when it was right here, right in front of us. Guess I now understand what a conspiracy theorist feels when he is right. It's hella vindicating. Also, thanks for introducing me to all those other philosophical ideas like Platonism and spelling out the "existence precedes essence". I now have things to keep my mind occupied. After I wrap my mind around Pythagoreanism in due time. Also, in regards to Cain's mark. My speculations - without any evidence to back me up, so... yeah - PM might go with the more biblical side of things. Demian is shown (at least so far) to never touch the ground. In the bible it's said that those marked as Cain's children are cursed by the land itself. My idea here, is that they are either not tied to the way the City makes everyone part of the little Laplace Demon we know as Index - which allows them to cheat the system a bit. Or they are part of the Nebulae in some capacity (not sure on this one). Anyway, great video. Keep up the good work!

While I know Stiltcurrent already covers this, I think that Skin Prophet could be a representation of Ahab's singlemindedness and obsession. An entity that spends all its time writing an indecipherable prophecy that only it seems to understand, attacking blindly and only noticing the sinners properly once the candles are lit. In fact, Skin Prophet has an attack that makes it take damage in exchange for snuffing out the candles once more, making it go back to its reading and writing of the prophecy, harming itself just so that it can continue with its obsession. Not to mention that the Skin Prophet inflicts a status effect that makes it so it and the candles target one specific sinner with certain skills. Idk, a lot of this stuff makes me think of Ahab and specially of that scene where Ishmael opens the door to Ahab's room just to find her with her eyes wide open, a lamp illuminating the whole place and many crude drawings (probably done by Ahab herself lol) of the Whale nailed to the walls of the room

50:15 I do not necessarily believe this was a skip. Limbus' use of the classical Gloom in place of Greed here actually fits this Canto just as well as Wrath does, and Gloom was also critical to Yi Sang's Canto. I would argue that the Great Lake, and Canto 5 in general, is a liminal space between these states: Heathcliff's Canto will be more reflective of Wrath in many ways, whereas this Canto is all about that SINKING bay-bee. It's a sinking driven by the wrath and greed of Ahab and Ishmael, absolutely. But I feel like it's worth drawing attention to this being a deliberate layer-swap rather than a circle-skip.
@LastMinuteEssays
@LastMinuteEssays 17 күн бұрын
On the level of the sins themselves yes, Gloom fits the bottom of the Styx well, plus it's not like Limbus is a story so simple that it only focuses on one emotion at a time, I get that. But as far as the structure of the poem goes, hm, I still feel like it was the right call to liken the Lake to river Styx. Heathcliff may be wrathful, but I don't think the aesthetics of his Canto fit that at all. But as I said, we'll see. My brain is fried at the moment.

I feel that Pequod Yi Sang was a better Starbuck, closer to the book, than the one we got in the main timeline. The Identities of each sinner also carry some elements that tend to be constants for each, certain goals, mindsets, roles. And even the EGO, that each sinner get, feel like they tend to speak a lot about what guides their path, what they believe in, and what they can overcome to become the better version of themselves. Like Identities, EGO extracted should be a possilbity that the sinner reached in some other timeline. Meaning, they overcame that emotion/belief/craving/etc. and sometimes, we didn't even knew they had it. EGO, despite not having a story or cutscene linked to it, i feel can also light a lot into a sinner's mind.

Always thought the level of the inferno presented in canto 5 is greed, in the form of the obsession toward a single thing rather the hoarding aspect. In Inferno, the greedy clash against each other endlessly, and while the bashing continues they start to fuse and be one mass against the other. Vergilius in Inferno even remarks to dante that they become one and the same, the same thing Ahab in Limbus says to Ishmael. The same "becoming one thing" is seen in the mermaids to, no matter what one was, the palidification is the same and everyone, pirate or lccb agent, will become a palid mermaid, one and the same.

Maybe. The notion of a wheel of fortune and sides changing their 'wealth' constantly is present there. But still, call it a gut instinct. Honestly, at this point I'm waiting for the Hong Lu chapter to see if it fits Violence Against Self in any way, cause if it does then it means I locked it in.

I haven't read much on the Korean origin of Sunshower, so that's neat to know. My interpretation has been very Little Prince focused, because goodness knows Limbus is very Little Prince coded (looking at you Demian). In that sense, the fox could also be a reference to the book's fox, which is skittish towards the Prince because he hasn't been tamed, aka befriended. The way the Prince befriends him is by sitting with the fox, nearer an nearer every day, something you mirror in the Abnormality's event to receive its gift. The fox talks to the Prince about how humans have stopped genuinely making connections, opting for quick and easy solutions instead.

Good video on the literature but I feel like you just don’t read the mirror dungeon events for the abnos or something, cause imo there’s so much more nuance to them then what you said about them: First of all So that no one will cry, like the name suggested, it takes harms, misfortunes and other ailments and chose to take the burden itself, not wanting to see others falling apart so instead choose to harm itself instead, probably a reflection of Yisang’s mentality regarding the league that drove him to depression, maybe even a allegory to how Dongrang was treated by Alfonso after his death. Ambling pearl, skin prophet, and silt current is all about purpose, the ambling pearl is about the strive and loss of a singular purpose, aka protecting the pearl. While skin prophet is about senseless all-consuming wrath to achieve a purpose, ignorant to and harming everything around it. And silt current is about the founding of a new purpose and direction, that those who’ve aimlessly sunken to the bottom need a new light to guide their path. And well, you could probably see how those connects to the story.

@@Misophonias another addition is, that many abnos have several, sometimes even conflicting ideas and concepts to them. Like how King in Binds is the King chained to the throne, aswell as the King held together by the throne. It also has the precarious position signified through the sword of damocles, and also the idea of the Kings subjects bound to it. Its a bit hard to write down in english, but the reason 2 sinners have the same ego, even tho the connection doesnt look like a shared one, it usually makes sense due to this.

With my cursory knowledge and glancing at wikis, Im unsure how your theory of the Inferno following Dantes descent can work in the future Cantos. Canto 6 Would be Heracy which i dont really see. Canto 7 is probably the 1st part of Violence, Violence against neighbors, Canto 8 (Hong Lu) Is Violence against the self (5 gloom base ego looking real scary right about now) And canto 9 (Ryoshu) would be Violence against God, ART, Nature (Oh this one could hurt too). The real odd part is that the next 2 circles Fraud and Treachery but we have 4 sinners left with Meursault, Outis and Faust and ofc Dante. I am unsure how they can correlate to the remaining cantos but i do believe that when we reach the Center of hell we will probably either have the confrontation with NCorp in full effect/its conclusion or we can meet carmen.
@LastMinuteEssays

The main thing that is giving me pause is that the concept of Heresy fits Don more (filial impiety), but the aesthetics as presented in Limbus fit elements of Heath's Canto (people in fiery tombs, heresy understood as denial of the immortality of the soul) So I'm just waiting to see if Hong Lu has a forest in it to lock in my theory for good. As for the four remaining sinners, Fraud has A LOT of sub-circles. Either that or each head of Lucifer in Treachery is gonna get an expanded story in a way. We'll see.

"There is a force which lies at the heart of truth, meaning, beauty, humour, eroticism, mystery, madness, and desire. This primordial and essential force is known as taboo, from the Tongan word “tabu,” meaning ‘set apart, forbidden.'" Some (myself included) might go as far as to claim that such repugnantly mobbish, incurious, and antisocial behaviour is even more pernicious than a physician’s betrayal of the Hippocratic Oath. One would not be incorrect in declaring that these actions represent the callous, cold-hearted, and myopic desecration of both muse and logos. Make no mistake about it: censorship of dissident thought or expression of any variety is the craven attempt to both cease and hinder the expansion and refinement of consciousness! Annie Le Brun: “…artists who distinguish themselves by an unprecedented, submissive attitude toward cultural politics and institutional strategies have irremediably altered the artistic landscape merely through their occupation of it.”

1:14 About that, though... aren't peccatulae the product of a failed distortion anyway? In which case, would becoming an embodiment of sin like a peccatulum mean at least an attempted distortion, or am I jumping the gun there? Plus Dongrang's distortion also has resemblance to gluttony peccatulum features. I don't think "written verbal acknowledgement of a conversation with carmen" is required for something to be a distortion or not, though. Like our guy Roland just kinda abruptly distorted, like... twice consecutively or something. (I'm not even sure we ever see the sort happen in Distortion Detective). Dongbaek talks to Carmen, but there's no such noted speech with Ahab's EGO manifestation. I feeeel like its pretty safe to say Kromer distorted, but maybe thats just me feeling like "nah golden bough funsies" is a cop-out
@wolfy-woo
@wolfy-woo 14 күн бұрын
Addendum: Distortion Detective explains that there's a reason distortions look as they do, and certain features often correspond to the source of that distortion. I.e. water with depression, electricity with neurosis, for some given examples. So Kromer bearing extreme resemblance to the peccatulae embodying the sin of lust would be no coincidence, considering they're brought into being in a similar way. That's what's fueling her distortion, or at least the major contributor.

It's an insignificant difference, but I do want to cover the fact that the process is different, in case this becomes a factor later down the line. As it is, it's a middle point on the spectrum between peccatulae and a Distortion.

!! Warning !! A variety of spoilers for even the most recent canto. Dante has 3 (probably) direct references going with him. Dante from Dante Alighieris works. The Jesus. But also Aeneas of the "Golden Bough" episode in the Aeneid. (I think you listed that reference but for the boughs themselves and not for Dante) The reason I am saying that it is also applying to Dante is, because in the founding mythos of Rome, Aenas descends into Hades, which can allegorically be compared to the christan concept of hell. It also uses most of the important underworld rivers in its narrative. Styx, Lethe and Phlegethon. (and a few more) Lethe especially getting direct references in Don's canto. (And being used in both ways: oblivion/forgetting everything which also ties into existence before essence and rebirth after being "purged" of everything. Like some amnesiac protag ;) ) I also bet on the Aeneid being the founding mythos of Rome also being paralleled in Limbus as the founding mythos of the City. (Or just LobCorp - but I think they dont wanna keep it as circular in logic, so it being tied to the City making a ot more sense) Which would mean Dante is a very special boy in setting.

For a bit in the alpha footage IIRC, yeah. Funnily enough, gloom/sadness/despondence is mentioned in some early philosophy as one of 'evil thoughts' that eventually got codified into the 7 deadly sins. We'll see how it shakes out. Fraud and Treachery are also not technically part of the 7, but they are the deepest circles of Inferno.

Sorry for being the one annoying italian again but yeah intervallo was a good word choice since it’s usually the break between acts in theather or at the cinema compared to a normal break between games just being a pause. Though I assumed they meant it as intermezzo which is when actors do improv or a rehearsed small skit to entertain anyone who didn’t need a break while they do their scenery/costume changes. Which is still just an intervallo so not wrong but that one is just more generic I guess it sounded better.

In regards to Dante being a Jesus allegory: there is actually a pretty popular theory in the fandom that Dante is actually an allegory to WhiteNight. Both feature doomsday clocks, are robed figures who's true appearance is initially unknown, command 12 "blessed" subjects who they bring back from death and that end up becoming monsters (via EGO Corrosion in the case of the Sinners), with one of the 12 being a traitor (there are a lot of theories who that could be within the Limbus cast), both have control over time, and seemingly the ability to manipulate the "soul" (WhiteNight with Pale damage and Dante with The Door, though the latter could just be me reading too much into it). Of course, this could all simply be because WhiteNight, being the anti-christ is inherently similar to Jesus, at least on the surface, but considering Dante has more similarities to him than the actual Jesus expy in Project Moon (One Sin & Hundreds of Goods) it does raise some concerns.
@LastMinuteEssays
@LastMinuteEssays 17 күн бұрын
I do see it, but I feel like the key difference here is how Dante literally takes the pain of each Sinner's injury upon themselves. Plus WhiteNight changes the nuggets to its own needs as puppets whereas Dante only tries to guide them while still giving them agency.
@m--e
@m--e 17 күн бұрын
The door in Dante's case is used to bring back the sinners if I remember, and The Apostles are never truly defeated but in a 'suspended' state awaiting White Night's calling which 'revives' them. The guardian apostles( the ones who guard White Night in Lobotomy corp and have a blue glowing eye) are also specifically the 1st and 11th blessed employees, in case of the sinners it would correspond to Yi sang and Sinclair, respectively. But with Dante being the 10th sinner and him being White Night it would make the 11th apostle actually Outis(actually makes a lot of sense) with the 12th and traitor/heretic apostle being Faust.

@LastMinuteEssays That's a part of it. But from having her tongue cut off as a way to escape from her "family", the nobility status in her other source material, to her desire for respect as a Big Sister possibly mirroring the Mermaid's desire to grow old enough to be allowed to rise to the water surface, or her harming herself and feeling pain being similar to the Mermaid's curse of feeling like she's treading on sharp blades when she gained her legs, or when Queequeg let the pale to overcome her because of her affection (whatever it is) for Ishmael reminisced of the Mermaid dooming herself by refusing to kill the Prince because of her love for him...I'm quite confident that one of Queequeg’s inspirations must be the Little Mermaid. Even the imageries of sunset or at least the sun are more prominent in The Little Mermaid. The Mermaid is said to love her red flowers, which were compared to the sun. It's funny that, in the story, she was given a crown of **white** lilies instead, much to her own annoyance.
