I think we have enough information at this point to make an educated guess on where the story is going. Hohenheim says something this event I find very, very curious: he talks about how it’s fortunate that Limbus Company was the first to learn about Monoliths and the power they hold not because he wants more to study, but because it means they have a monopoly on who they can sell to instead of fighting with other Wings for market share. If we factor in the (at this point almost certainly true) theory that Dias is the one who owns the company, you can start to see what the masterstroke probably is, given we were outright told that they’re working with a group who plans to supplant W Corp. Dias wants Monoliths because she wants the ability to weaponize Distortions and to control who has access to them. As she said herself back in Distortion Detective, she will need Wings in order to overthrow the Head. I think this effort to use Distortions in an upcoming Wing War will be what the mass loss of life in the trailer stems from, either because some ALEPH-level monstrosity goes out of control or simply just from the sheer scale of it all. You noted that the Pianist “only” killed around 300k, but imagine what an entire unit of Pianists could do. As to who she’s targeting and why, the fact W Corp is a confirmed one paints a possible picture: I imagine the plan is to destroy W, K, and R Corp, as those are the Wings with a confirmed direct relationship with the Head via the serums the Claws use (if F Corp’s fairies are the same thing that Arbiters use, they’re also likely on the list). Being in control of their successors would give Dias immense power and strike a direct blow to the Head’s overwhelming strength. As to the “when,” I imagine it’s going to be the climax of Inferno. This would be such an utterly status-quo-shattering event that it’s hard to imagine it “just” being part of a Canto. I can’t say for sure how exactly Dante and the Boughs factor into this beyond the fact that they’re very important. The flow dictates that no harm should befall Dante, after all. Faust is most likely a Sinner to ensure that Dante survives to fulfill whatever role they have in the plan (we can’t say 100% that she works directly for Dias but at this point, I think it’s more likely than not, and at the very least she knows what the real point of LC is). On that note, bonus factoid: remember that W Corp agent that disappeared in MotWE? He is almost certainly a spy working for the upcoming new W Corp. Go reread it and note how strangely pushy Faust is to get everyone off the train when they notice he’s not in the pod. Clearly, she didn’t want anyone asking questions.

@@OpalBuddy A Corp reserves the rights to use any Singularity but my point is that by controlling the sources of things the Head actively uses, Dias could turn off the tap whenever she makes her move which would go a long way towards making them less utterly unstopable in a direct fight. Even if the Head has the means to reproduce these things themselves, it'd still create a logistics issue for them. As for Serum W, while it is true it's based more off what the previous W Corp was doing with it, Sen's page confirms the current Singularity they use is modified from the old one with collaboration from T Corp, so presumably current W Corp is still acting as a supplier.

The way I see it, this apocalypse is one that's been known for a long time to the truly powerful people of the city, and a lot of the groups that we see in the story (The Yurodiviye, Demian's group, Herman's group, LC itself, etc) are all just vying to take control of the flow caused by this event to further their objectives. We don't know much about them, but since all of them seem to at least know the other (Demian knows Sonya who knows Hermann), we can observe the common thread of a "purge" among all their ideologies. Hermann is the most upfront about it, but Demian's whole "the world is heading towards a new birth, and only few will be there to see it" schpiel implies... a biblical amount of casualties. Couple that with the whole "sovereigns of a star thing" and with Bari's foreseen "war against the nebulae" and the picture of what's happening beneath it all gets a bit clearer. This apocalypse has been foreseen by many people, I believe. It could be the reason why T. Corp is buying up all the monoliths, why P. Corp wants to build the "safest place in the world", why the Yurodiviye are waiting for "the right moment", probably to prop up Sonya as a messianic new leader of humanity. Perhaps it could give Hermann a breach to destroy all alternate realities, and it could finally show Demian the "star" for which he longs for. Perhaps this apocalypse is why Carmen sought to give the Light back to humanity in the first place, so they could have the means to fight in this apocalypse, or why the Head is so adamant in suppressing human emotions (since I believe this event has something to do with the Light; the metaphysical river of the human subconscious) even saying that EGO and Distortions are a stain in the "ecology of the city" they've so carefully cultivated. Perhaps making the City such an inhumane place to live in was their own way of making sure this event wouldn’t come to pass. TLDR: Crises are moments of opportunity. This tragedy has been foreseen by countless of the City's elite for a long time who each plan to use it to further their own ends.

Maybe instead of a single particular event is a bunch of events that lead into more events or just events that happened to start around the same time. Like in the intervallo the chance of a wing war for the spot at W corp happening, that could start around the time the Yurodivye do the funny, and conflict of that scale happening could make a ton of people distort, making the quickly declining population the result of a chain reaction of sorts.

The true power of Abnormalities is rather unknown to us, with the Pianist being ranked as something WAWish it's not crazy to think some of the AOE Alephs could reach 300mil deaths. White Night, Blue Star, Silent Orchestra, Maybe Melting Love if it waited long enough before the harvest (maybe it would consider 50% of the district instead of 50% of the department)... Honestly with the speed Queen Bee propagates they could even be a serious contender. So in the end all it would take is some kind of propagating (or maybe even *just* AOE) Aleph to reach those numbers, theoretically.

My view is it’s not going to be just one thing, but a series of unfortunate events. First a 2nd Wing War, which would already be bad enough; But then in comes Carmen who will then capitalize on 10s of 1000s of soldiers being pushed to their breaking point, leading to a distortion dog pile; All of this causes the Syndicates, the Yurodivye, the Fingers, hermann and the Limbus higher ups to use the chaos to put their own plans into motion like vultures pouncing on a dying animal; Causing even more pandemonium, leading to even more people panicking and getting pushed to their breaking point, and thus even more distortions. All the while, the Head will actually go into panic mode for the first time, and in their attempts to do damage control, more than likely just exacerbate the situation, leading to Carmen picking off even some of the Head, which I can only imagine what kind of Aleph Level monstrosity distortions they’ll turn into. That 300,000,000 might just be the very start of the carnage…

My take on what gonna happen: War for status of the head. This theory based on next theory: Dias is director of Limbus Company (LCA looks very similar to Udjat, SoTC-Level office, Ezra and Moses working in LCE department), we know that she wanted title of the Head, and since A corp, B corp and C corp are part of the Head, next part should be D corp (don't forget that D corp is highlighted in trailer), Dias definitely know something about Seed of Light project and collects Golden Boughs for a reason, maybe she will use it as an excuse for title of the Head. Opposing her would be Hermann, who wants to destroy every single mirror world with power of the Golden Boughs (that's probably why we see huge decline in population, it's power of every Golden Boughs, that we will eventually collect) and Hermann probably demand title of the Head (don't forget that the Head also like the Idea of pure Humanity). We also should see Purple Tear, who wants to use power of Golden Boughs to find her son. And Sweepers intervallo probably will be about family (family thematic will be huge part of Hong Lu Canto).

Tbh while I do think MOST alephs wouldn’t be possible of killing so many people, I think there are a few who could, and to be honest I think the two most likely suspects, would be blue star and mountain of smiling bodies. Blue Star is the one I feel less confident about but we don’t know what it’s attack range would be without qliphoth deterrence and as such while it could just be a relatively small range, it could also extend to nest wide range for all we know. As for the other aleph I think could do something like this, Mountain Of Smiling Bodies we only see get to stage three, with around 9-12 corpses, and under qliohoth deterrence, given it’s nature I wouldn’t be surprised if it could grow indefinitely and with how many people are in smallish areas in the city, I think it could do something serious damage. Now, to be clear, I think what’s actually going to cause it is going to be the collapse of W Corp, after all it was mentioned that there are already company’s getting ready to take its place, and I feel like teleportation is another thing that R Corp really values so like the L Corp war, R Corp might get involved again. Now for one last thing, some of you might be wondering why I didn’t consider Apocalypse Bird or White Night as abnos that could kill so many people, and to be honest, it comes down to range and durability, to start with WN, in L Corp we SEE that WN’s funny red ring of pale damage barely extends past the whole facility, and while yes that is still a lot of range, it’s not a ton in terms of the city, so a group of high level fixers could probably charge down WN if they play their cards right tbh, as for Apocalypse Bird, it’s more devastating attacks seem to have even less range so while yes it can teleport, one it takes it a while between teleports, and two, it doesn’t seem to notice when it’s eggs are under attack so it’s possible for fixer groups to just find the eggs and stop Apocalypse Bird that way, tho I could be wrong about these two I’ll admit, but just thought I’d share what I think based off of what we’ve seen so far Edit: I realized I forgot about Appoc Bird’s scale attack and to specify why I think WN would have less range than Blue Star, to be honest Appoc Bird’s scale range could be anything so I retract my statement that he wouldn’t be able to cause the level of death we see coming up as if that scale has even just close to nest wide range he would be capable of such destruction, as for WN, I just have my doubts about what it’s range would be, especially since it’s mostly immobile and unlike the other two we can see its range in L Corp which is why I doubt White Night but I could be completely wrong here

I feel like talking about Apoc Bird or WN is kind of redundant in a ''how bad would it be?'' scenario cause like.... What if without deterrence, WN can influence the entire city? What if without deterrence, his Apostles stand on the same level as Colours, who would kill thousands of people in a matter of seconds with their ludicrous speed and strength? What if without deterrence, Apocalypse Bird can expand its own size to the height of the City itself, and smash chunks of districts with its fists? I'm of the opinion that we should keep in mind the actual knowledge we have of their mechanics, behaviour, attacks etc but not really guesstimate based on previous experience. Cause in Ruina they are all weakened specters hiding in books, and in LCorp they are under absurd amounts of Qliphoth Deterrence and also limited by the size of the facility itself. Apoc Bird might be able to get even bigger, but physically couldn't because there are millions of tons of stone, rock, metal etc in the way. White Night might be able to 'speak' to multiple districts at a time, or interface with Carmen in the light, who knows. The Silent Orchestra would be funny though, it would nuke at minimum an entire district and likely beyond, since the Pianist is essentially a cheap temu product in comparison to it.

Regular check-up event mentions how limbus is working with another small company that plans to replace W corp as a wing, with Limbus itself seemingly going for L corp's place, so another war of the wings on the level of smoke wars or even bigger is a possibility. I am going to be honest, I think because of Warp trains it was a special case that they took so little time between disctricts and that it was more justified that they cramed so much stuff in December, and of the substantial stuff we have so far is Canto 7 and Medical Check Up in December, Walpurgis tends to be so small that I think it is only a few days for the sinners of farming that for them Usually it does take 1 or 2 months to move to another district as we have seen previously, so still could be the case that we get at June 985, but I think we should take December more as an exception If we take the 1 month every single time, Hong Lu's would be January, Ryoshu February, Meur March, Outis April, Faust May and Dante June, so we just barely get there And Intervallos being in a period very close to each other, they would have to barely move in time and space for all of them in the future, barely a few days after Intervallos constantly over and over again and that Charon would have to fucking race through the city and traffic like crazy I think there is a lot of moving parts on the logistics and that it makes that need to be right for the massacre to happen right on Dante or even Faust, however taken in the other direction, I think it is harder for the massacre to happen on Ryoshu, since they would have to crawl to such a stop during Canto 8 for such thing to happen So idk, maybe we were wrong and it may happen in another Canto we haven't considered? Between Meur and Outis, I think my money would be on Outis, which certainly could have its interesting implications to her story even if uh, at the end of all Cantos with Dante certainly would be so much more compelling Regardless, I just wanted to point out that maybe we shouldn't hold on too much into December as a rule for the future timeline of events to base which Canto June 985 happens, I guess as we go in next Intervallo and Canto 8, it may help to figure out better how fast the story may be going now, if indeed everything will keep happening in December and January, or we get a February jumpscare

Maybe not one Aleph-tier Abnormality or Distortion... but this Intervallo just introduced us to two things that are on its way to getting wide distribution in the City: The warp gates developed by W-Corp's potential usurper and Limbus' sale of the Monoliths. The former makes it possible for a sudden outbreak of Abnormalities(or some other dangerous entities) to spread very fast. The later makes an explosive outbreak of simultaneous distortion phenomenons possible... should the Monoliths suddenly exhibit a much wider range of effect than revealed so far(Monoliths placed in a certain formation in the CIty?). Both possibilities would likely require someone to plan the event in advance... and both could happen at the same time.

Considering how big of a drop this is, I imagine the Head would step in whatever happens in some way, shape or form. Especially since Beholders would just take a look to see what's going on, and if it's concentrated on one place(would most likely be in L Corp, but could also easily be W, R, or N Corps), they maybe could send a Claw there, if there was some kind of Taboo broken because of any of the main factions(LimCom, Hermann's N Corp team, Demian's group or the Yurodiviye), or they could do something we don't know yet. I mean, this would sound like a proper dramatic stage ground for them to do something in the story, right? Would be a perfect occasion for us to see what how the Head works in a big event like this, given we only saw them on lower death count environments(Carmen and Ayin's research being interrupted because Angela exists, the Library's teleportation to the Outskirts...).

I think Dias using monoliths and distortions to make a revolution would be the most logical cause for the massacre, but I'm thinking about one detail. It was established in Canto 5 that in the worst case, Dante has capability to self-destruct. Why would they establish such plot point if no harm is supposed to befall Dante? Unless... The explosion is what this whole expedition is leading to. Dante becomes stronger as we collect more golden boughs. What would happen if Dante, fueled with the power of all golden boughs, activated his self-destruction? Could the golden boughs amplify the self-destruction's power to such heights that he'd be able to nuke a whole district? Maybe they need Dante to nuke the whole district, because they don't want the massacre to spread further, but they aren't capable of containing the distortions through ordinary means? Or maybe they simply need Dante as a bomb for a strategic object? I might be overthinking it, but I just don't think Project Moon would establish a mechanic like that and then never use it.

I really feel like it could coincide with the Canto 9 of all things, which also lines up with previous prediction! Not only is it plausible timing-wise, its also kinda a reference to the Hell in Dante's inferno having 9 layers, which we've been actually following by the book so far! Another, somewhat insane theory, might be that Inferno ends after canto 9, not canto 12-13, for the same reason mentioned above. I think it'd make a lot of thematic sense, but we'll see. I would find it hard to believe the cause of this would be a singular entity rampaging, because anything that does that much damage would likely not be allowed to live long. It is more believable to me for it to act similar to a instantaneous act (like mass distortion, like commentors suggest, and ego awakening, but it would most than likely be immediately followed or during a war if the number keeps crawling up. My guess is it would have to be a war against the most influential people in the city, and like others suggest, probably the head vs dias with some devastating event happening during it, but maybe the massacre will be REVERSED. Maybe by a super powerd Dante, maybe it was some weird mirror world or distortion transformation that just needed turning off. Edit: i forgot to mention, i guess it would have to be a dias that has a lot more soilders and tools than i imagjne her to have right now, but i have no idea just how many "cards" she has that she can play. And if you want a large amount of people who are willing to fight, the city overflows with them. But i think dias would have to; half the corps on her side; multiple powerful, successful tactics, or trump cards that will sway the fight heavily in her favour. I can see that trump card being the sinners and the egos they weild, partial immortality (if i recall right, there hearts must stay intact for revival [i think faust indicated that being the case when ishmael got melted at k corp]) and near endless amount of combat experience that also goes into their base forms, but i am not sure how they would be convinced to go to war. Other than dante asking or needing them to, or it could be a part of their contract to and Vergilius would slaughter them if they go against it if it means Verg helps Charon.

when you say ryoshu being the red mist, i MIGHT be taking this a bit too literally BUT i highly doubt that. while they are both the same archetype of strong badass characters, ryoshu and gebura are nothing alike in personality, ryoshu is all about art and family, and gebura is all about strength and using it for the right reasons their morals and beliefs just have such big differences i highly doubt that they are ACTUALLY the same person, or really have that much of a link we know ryoshu has a history with the Ring and most likely the Shi as well, but gebura isnt tied whatsoever to either faction (if you ignore that we unlock geb after beating shi association in ruina, but i mean thats kinda a stretch to go off of) shes literally my fav character so im so excited to watch them cook
