Limebug Steering Arm Ultrarm Installation Guide - Volkswagen Type 1 Beetle / Karmann Ghia / Type 3

Limebug Ultrarm, the solution to poor steering lock, uneven steering and fouling shocks / dampers on narrowed beams.
The Problem
The ackermann angle, when a beam is stock width is configured so the inner wheel, when in a corner will turn a tighter radius than the outer, this angle is based on the track width and length of the vehicle.
When a narrowed beam is installed this steering relationship is compromised, this has been commonplace and a factor tolerated for years, the myth being that the beam is the root cause, not the geometry.
The Ultrarm
The ultrarm achieves perfect steering ratios, for both early and late models using the early (Pre 1961) steering boxes (small spline) for early Track Rod Ends, respectively for both Left and Right Hand Drive models.
Each unit is manufactured in EN24 High Tensile Alloy Steel.

i just took delivery of mine and found it odd for the price that it doesn't included a new bolt and lock tab, nicely made bit of kit though. i stumbled on the video as i also expected some basic instructions 🤷

Hi David, thankyou for the feedback, its great to hear you are pleased with the product, we are alway endavouring to improve our service and including the lock tab and securing bolt is a great shout, it is a little difficult with this being an extremely expensive part to manufacture as you say its not a cheap already however we will look at this. With the instructions we do recommend this video to all installers as its a great guide to baseline setup, but again we will look to include literature within the box to direct to this video. When looking from the top, should the pitman arm be straight when wheels point forward, or should it point more toward the center of the car before aligning the wheels?

The Ultarm should be as straight as possible to make the least possible play on the tapered worm drive inside the steering box, however we generally sit the arm with a very slight amount of inward angle towards the centre of the car to increase lock and balanced rod lengths. It is also worth noting that the steering box can be aligned slightly closer to the centre of by utilising some of the space between the steering column guide tube and column. This further aids the steering lock on narrowed beams. Hope this helps

@@LimebugVW does the longer part of the arm face the outside of the car or inside? Not sure what I did wrong, but the wheels turn more one way and not much the other way. It would really be helpful to see pictures of this installed from the top and the wheels straight.

What happens if the steering damper shock bottoms out limiting the turning radius?
