I can't imagine how hot that heat exchanger must have been. It was probably glowing red hot! Had it not been for the rollout switch, that probably would have ended in a fire. I know I shouldn't laugh, but I got a chuckle out of your dog having consumed a bottle of Scope. I can only imagine what a dog that's drunk acts like.

Damn! What kind of idiot bypasses limits and leaves them that way? Wonder that thing didn’t end up like Chernobyl! I used to run into bypassed limits on trailer park oil “pot” furnaces occasionally. That thing had to be close to a melt down. Good fix putting it back safe!

We need to find the last guy that worked on that thing and have a discussion. You had to straighten out a mess there. Looked like spaghetti hanging out of there. I'm not a tech and know better than to bypass that limit. Nice work, and it did look more comfortable on the ground there. I just have to watch I don't lose tools or parts. $5 part jumped out could've burned the house down, plus Cap Bandit left cap in box. Fuel to a possible fire. Good rewiring the motor and checking it out Curtis. Surprisingly the FD didn't call gas co to lock out the gas valve. Why are most of the houses you work on that the breaker box is outside not in the house? Is that common in your area? Keep those basic Rheem units going. Love those boys.

you should wash the blower wheel on EVERY blower motor replacement. also on the new motor I would pop off the caps on the bearings and add extra oil to the bearings on those motors that I could. .MFGR'S tend to leave them pretty dry so that that the motor will fail in a few years

When you changed from AC to Heat, would not the blower have stopped until the heat exchanger reached a specified temperature so as not to blow cold air into the house? As you showed, it started blowing again, but at the slower speed, after just a few seconds and so you weren't worried about it. I understand though, that just after changing the motor and fixing the wiring, you're thinking more about that than the normal operation shutting the fan down. There are high temperature limiters, but most furnaces appear to have low temperature limiters also. They also usually continue to run after the fire is turned off until they cool down the heat exchanger and not waste that heat, but blow it into the house. Correct? How does the motor determine the correct rotational direction on its own? I assume the correct direction, since that direction is actually moving air, will put a heavier load on the motor. Is that how it detects the direction?
@AllTattedUp13
@AllTattedUp13 11 ай бұрын
No furnace has a "low temp" limit. You have your main/high limit, few roll out limits, some have a blower limit and some have a flu exhaust limit. And most oem motors are 1 direction only. Only time u get cw and ccw motors is with universal rescue motors.
@wmcomprev
@wmcomprev 11 ай бұрын
@@AllTattedUp13 My furnace lights the burner. It then takes about a minute before the blower kicks in. It could be a timer instead of a thermal switch or it may have 2 thermal switches, one when the temperature gets up to operating range (enabling the blower & keeping the blower running after the gas turns off) and another for over temperature (shuts everything down), which is what was bypassed in this video. The first one is what I was calling a "low temperature limiter." I realize that's probably not the correct name for it. All the other motors I'd seen have to have the direction set on them. I wasn't aware of the universal rescue motors. Thanks.
@AllTattedUp13
@AllTattedUp13 11 ай бұрын
@@wmcomprev that's normal forced air operation. Burners ignite burn for about 90sec then blower starts. It's done by time relays on circuit board, usually. And u can change them by dipswitches or cycling thru boards menu.
