As a hermitcraft fan, I can say that the fanbase has quite a number of sensitive kiddos. Every now and then HC members need to reassure their audiences that it's all jokes, that nothing is serious, etc etc. You'd think the kids would've learned by now, lol. I think Pearl is watcher but I have two possible theories of how: 1. Pearl has been a watcher since Evo as she fell out of the sky when she joined and is already a goddess in hermitcraft/empires/afterlife. 2. Pearl’s pain and chaos (and also her torturing of Scott) in Double life somehow either turned her into a watcher or made them recruit her into their ranks leading to the nosy neighbors and their favorite phrase: always watching

I _think_ well-to my knowledge for now, none of the negative emotions in the previous season will be brought to the next one _except_ for Grian and Pearl. Grian got annoyed because he's paired with Scar ‘again’, I think he's the only one who does that? I don't know about other though, haven't watched all of them, but the same case happened with Martyn. He's loyal to Ren in the first and second season

I find it exceptionally poetic that he won in a desert biome and during the day. The moon is Pearl. She won with wolves before Scott committed suicide. The shield is Scott. His name actually means ‘the man with the shield’ and he is reliable, like a shield, to his allies. I have also noticed that one of Scott’s allies always wins the game. Perhaps he is genuinely some sort of shield from death in the games. The sword is Martyn. A sword can be used to protect and to attack. A person can choose both just as easily, just like c!Martyn can chose to protect or attack his allies with little to no remorse. Edit: I have noticed a lot of people like the idea that Scott is represented by stars too. This is an entirely valid interpretation to have. I just personally think the shield goes a little better since it is an antithesis to the sword, it is reliable, and protects the user from attacks. Plus, it also means I don't have to change the rhyme lol

Gem saying that she is a celestial being basically playing DnD in different universes is my favorite thing. I'd find it very interesting to know (in Martyn's universe) how much power she has in comparison to the Watchers. Like, could she battle it out with one and barely survive the encounter if she was aware of what was happening in the games? Or does she strictly have dimension hopping abilities?

As a mainly scott watcher I was also unbothered, Scott’s had his win and I was really rooting for Martyn. I will now be looking forward to an impulse win but I’m really happy with how this went. Probably my favourite series so far.

Scott was proud of martyn after the initial shock, and clearly from impulse's editing he was content with this ending, the TIES goal when skizz sacrificed himself was to "get a TIES member to the final 3", and impulse got second. Literally every single ending with that betrayal ended in a very completed way

It is interesting that the Watchers feed off of the players' emotions, since it seems that they have been letting some slip through, like when AFK Grian gave Scar flashbacks to Grian being disappointed in him, and Scar trying desperately to reestablish a bond with Grian, and Scott trying to get Jimmy to say, "I love you." It is interesting.

Perhaps that’s why she was chosen to replace Cleo for that episode. Because she can do naturally do it, it was easy for her to be pulled into the game. just wanna say its pretty fun that when you wrote "game on" in chat was near enough the exact time that jimmy died. just a fun little thing IMO. the other thing to note is that there were 21 deaths by fall damage and by falling off ladders. so yeah gravity was the real winner with an extra 10.5 hours gained from falling

Here's another idea: Cleo's Witchcraft SMP finale shows her merging with all her alternate selves, including at least one from Nth Life. (And the base design she pulls out of an alternate timeline is a palette swap of the Crastle from Third Life.) Maybe Cleo is also being defragmented, as it were, and that's the process that leads to her becoming the Time Witch.

I was thinking Time Witch Cleo was future!Cleo come back in time to become Supreme Witch and make the alternate Cleos stop bothering her, and maybe that's how she defrags herself, because the Listeners don't have that connection with her.

1:01:35 I think that Lore with Lizzie and Joel is perfect. Because he tried to correct himself and say Pearl. But for him it was just reflex. Unconsciously saying that. The others who don’t know Lizzie to the same degree were able to call her Pearl far more easily. Joel couldn’t do that. I think it’s also notable that Jimmy also called Lizzie Lizzie by accident. Not as much as Joel did. But that could also be a good Lore connection since they’re Seablings in Empires Season 1 so have a similarly strong connection in another universe.

I like to think that in ep one, when Grian gives Etho the diamond sword, then says "Good, now *kill* Martin!" it was part of his Watcher self sort of bleeding through and wanting the chaos that would evolve from that. And it fits quite well with the lore side of things that it was Martin, and not another player/character, almost as though it was a test for him to see how he would handle it. And for Grian, it would have been a moment, of "Why did I say that, it doesn't sound like me." and it could have been the other watchers controlling him almost, witch would tie in with him being afk the one round, again, in terms of lore. I also wonder what the Watchers think of BigB, since he doesn't tend to kill very many people, and is fairly loyal to whoever his teammates/teammate is. He also doesn't seem to put off very many betrayal emotions, so it feels like the Watchers wouldn't like him very much. Anyway those are my thoughts on that. I'm also just recently discovering this whole Watcher lore stuff, and I love lore, so I found this really interesting! I'm exited to see what this will evolve into when everything is said and done

I like to think Grian is a chaotic third party. You have the Watchers which are evil/feed on negative energy and run the Life series. Then you have the Listeners who work against the Watchers, though they only appear in Evo from what I've seen so far. And then there's Grian, who was forced to be a Watcher, at the end of his Evo series. I like to think he was a Watcher for a bit, didn't like it, took his powers and left. Now he's with the other players causing chaos because being the cause is his form of amusement. Could be like he's now an Actor. The Watchers watch, the Listeners listen, but Grian acts on what he wants so he's the Actor

honestly loved the ending man. I don't think i would have wanted it to end any other way. it was a perfect ending for character Martyn that season. i think those complaining are rubbing up against their own parasocial relationships with content creators. they're not seeing the artifice of the content. these series are first and foremost a show intended to be watched. so each player makes mutual decisions for the sake of content creation and entertainment. if you wanted the most reasonable survival chance you would burry yourself in a hole at bedrock level and make an endless maze of tunnels. you wouldn't be on the surface, wouldn't make a Skynet or a bread bridge or a coral isles. no bad boys or mean gills or clockers because why would you trust anyone. you would have buried yourself in a hole and only gone out to interact once everyone turns red because killing everyone else is the only way to win. however for the sake of content you make those things, engage with the person who is offline due to sickness, make teams and interact with others so that way you get way better content. in reality this is a show, a performance and thus the actions of the character's you play are not reflective of you as people or content creators outside the content. the role you play in games is not who you are in real life and thus the decisions made are for that of content. on this level understanding that the series is a performance i think that the ultimate decision made is totally in character for character Martyn. like the last 2 times you died it was within the "honourable final battle" period of the games. why wouldn't character Martyn table "honourable" and just take the gold. i mean hell Tango said it in the beginning of the session, character Martyn is a wily and cunning trickster. devoted sure, Dedicated definitely but loyal? like yeah. when Character Martyn teams up he will follow a person to the end, support them and cheerlead them but that bitch isn't loyal to anybody. hell going deeper there were discussions of repeating past glories, doing something like the Grian/Scar fight but like... why would character Martyn respect that. impulse and Scott would sure because they were on Grian's side, but Martyn. Hand of the Red King: Martyn. no there's no way that character Martyn would want to follow in the footsteps those who bested him before. the plan was in theory if they won 3rd life Martyn would kill Ren. now that betrayal gets to be used and is aimed at the person whom the watchers have hated for so long. the man who who wore a crown of coral. then add in there this middle ground between Content Creator and Character Martyn in what's shown. that what's shown is what's important for both character and content creator Martyn. the fact that the scene where the mean gills started, where the coral kids tentatively picked out their name was missing from Martyn's episode feels telling about that alliance. that character Martyn didn't think it was that important and didn't think too hard about the alliance and content creator Martyn just shrugged it off in the edit. i think that alliance was always kind of tentative, character Martyn always wandering off and being elsewhere away from Scott gave that alliance a lot of distance unlike the other alliances. him betraying Scott in the end felt like an inevitability waiting for the betrayal

My personal headcannon is that Martyn truly becomes a mean gill in episode 4 after he stabs a sword through Scott, he reminisces about killing his Red King and he feels the need to make a dogwarts banner as like a symbol of dedication to the man who would wear a crown of coral. That they look at eachother and for a brief moment see another blonde haired man with flowers in his hair and a penchant for pufferish, and a king who would ask to be killed by his trusted Hand.

The idea that the otherworldly beings that feed on anger and betrayal and force mortals to fight and die for their entertainment care enough about the long-term to practice somewhat sustainable crop rotation (in waiting to bring people back until they've fully recovered) is surprisingly wholesome. Idea: if you were going to expand into other senses, why not try to make friends with a Sniffer in a 1.20+ Life game?

honestly I thought the ending was so good and the fact that it was unique to any of the other seasons really makes it stand out. like even if people didn't find the ending satisfying or compelling, I think a big feature of the life series is that none of the seasons are the same and though there are fan favourites (eg last life), I think a lot of people have their own personal favourites (like a lot of people like third & last because of the lore, I like double life because of the group dynamics). also throughout the episode it felt like you were teasing a betrayal, whether it was intentional or not or clever editing or whatever, so it's not like it came out of nowhere. I think the comments remind me a lot of duncan and rythian's 2012-13 tekkit series since they were playing rivals/enemies in that, and they both would get a lot of hate from people who didn't understand its Minecraft Videogame and the reason why they felt able to play antagonistic roles to each other is because they are actual real life friends. either way I'm glad the hate didn't get to you too much! I think ur fan's age bracket might be a little older than some other youtubers (not a dig at them, they make really good content and I love to watch them, & I think demeaning someone for making content for younger people is shit because kids deserve entertainment too), which is why it may have had such a volatile reaction. I really respect you for going through with it despite knowing that there would be a backlash and I think it just speaks to your own creative integrity.

While listeners and watchers are of the same species, I like to think that watcher magic is purple because they are corrupted by the misery that they feed on (this may also give them more eyes then their species already has) and listeners magic is yellow. Why would grians magic be purple then? He feeds off the other players unintentionally- though he tries his best not to. His magic may be a little lighter (more white) than regular watchers. This my head cannon tho, you may have a different opinion. Feel free to share yours :>

I want to say that this series had an absolutely amazing plot twist of an ending thanks to you and also Grian as I can hear. I cannot explain just how hurtful it was hearing that you've been receiving countless amount of hatred and dehumanizing comments. Martin you are absolutely amazing, along with all of the hermitcraft and empires crew. when i first saw the ending i got mad, there was no honor/emotion behind the final battle, unlike the previous battles, and you didnt even include your own death, like grian, scott, and pearl all did, but then i realized, you were with scott for some time, then you just killed him, out of desperation, with the thirst of victory and blood (well, as far as minecraft blood goes) in your eyes, so now i salute to you, for having the guts to do what you did o7, i hope the comments stop, and that they realize they are the wrong ones, the life series is meant to just be friends being friends, joking, fighting, teaming up, etc. and even if there isnt any honor/emotions, still, it was an amazing ending, you carved your own path, one that isnt like the one grian, scott and pearl's paths for there respective wins, i hope stuff go better for you inthelittlewood, your friends are lucky to have a charismatic man that just does stuff, acts, doesnt worry about the repercussions (unless they are serious, just clarifying) o7 littlewood...

I was very happy with the ending, the betrayal was a unique way to end things, as much as I love him I kinda didn't want Scott to win, again, and technically by taking out Scott first, had Impulse geared up fast enough, you gave him a split second chance. I honestly loved the last episode of Limited Life. My personal head cannon is like Martyn got so drunk on time that he killed the other two and took their time for himself not realising that it was only… literally, a limited amount of time. And when he finally ran out, it was over.

I loved this series, each Life Series has been different and unique. This is a game you guys all play together and no matter the outcomes at the end or how the end is achieved, everything is still brilliant to watch and the roller coaster of chaos is always hilarious to watch. I like to think that Grian has become his own kind of entity in the Watcher/Listener lore. The Watchers watch but don't do anything other than communicate with players to get them to do something. The Listeners obviously listen and are against the Watchers. I like to think Grian has become a third party to cause chaos(as he always does) because that's what he likes doing. Not satisfied watching or listening, so he's acting as a part of this world. He's become an Actor.

It gives different tones for each season, as well it was so fun, to be surprised by it and laugh along with your excitement at the end. there is always something lovely when you see the person who truly has a story in mind having their go. I'm like two months late but I just have a comment about the symbolism thing. The way I understand it, Grian is represented by the sun because the name Grian means sun in Irish (?), Pearl is represented by the moon for obvious reasons (her full KZbin name is Pearlescentmoon), and Scott is represented by the stars because his origin in Origins SMP was Starborne, and someone clever linked all of this together. Because there wasn't really one specific way all of them got these symbols assigned to them and it's more a general character thing, it makes sense to me that Martyn would be represented by a meteor or comet because of the way his character does things. Based on this specific installation in the life series a comet would also make sense symbolically because in ye olden times people thought comets were falling stars and because of the events at the end of Limited Life one could say Martyn's fallen from grace in that he's abandoned his own morals and convictions and gave in to the Watchers. That's my thought process anyway.

Despite Impulse not winning in the end, I still like your ending cause it's different from the previous ones (hurtful battle of the bffs, the survival of the fittest ending, the sacrifice) and now we have a betrayal, balancing the life series' endings. What I was expecting was Scott sacrificing himself again, which is the least I wanted cause he already did that last season. Also, I'm not really invested to the Watcher lore that I can put winged ears to my Grian style (it's cool when people draw him like that tho) and make theories about it XD I just see all of you as friends stuck in the same world, having fun with your own ways while killing each other. Those commenters who are not giving much thought to what they say don't deserve to watch your content. Stay amazing.

I think you made it a very exciting end to limited life. Overall, I liked the series. We had a dual between Scar and Grian, in Third Life. We had a four way battle royal in Last Life. We technically had chaos ending with Pearl killing Cleo and then Scott sacrificing himself. Another, let's have a fair free for all, would have gone back to the first two seasons. Besides, Martyn, you went from 6th, to 3rd, to joint 2nd to 1st. I think it was deserved, even if I was routing for the TIES, you played the game, really well.

I thought that the way that Martyn finished the series really paid off for me, at least from a character perspective. Watching his perspective from the beginning, every episode he tries to lay a trap or trick someone just in time for them to turn around and for him to brightly smile and talk his way out of it. He was rogue the whole season, he was rogue at the end, it paid off perfectly!

I just had a out there idea So I know not to much about watcher lore but from what I've understood, I think grumbot prime might be a watcher I think that grumbot is a watcher that got demoted or something from being a watcher and is using the rift to try and take out grian to satisfy the watchers so he can be a full watcher again. With how the final three was. It was either going to end with Scott winning because he was so up on time (which I don’t think fans would like because he won Last Life and sort of Double Life. People wouldn’t like him to win 3 times in a row.) or it would’ve ended with either you or Impulse betraying everyone. And thematically with your Watcher Lore, it makes much more sense for you to do it that Impulse. When Limited Life started, you were who I thought would win. And Impulse is who I was rooting for. So I can’t say I’m entirely happy with how it ended. Maybe if Impulse had somehow managed to get his armour and sword back on and been able to out PvP you that would’ve been nice as a big Impulse fan. But what can you do. The game’s the game. The other option might have been if you had turned on Scott earlier before you guys did the Lava stuff. If Impulse was able to capitalise and you joined up to take down Scott with all his time together. It might have been a bit like the dynamic of BDubs, Scar and Grian at the end of 3rd Life. But instead of Scar re-betraying BDubs. You would continue with Impulse until Scott was out and then turn on one another. Perhaps that’s some AU fanfiction someone can write.

I don't know if you're still bothering to read comments on this by now, but when you were talking about how Gem getting subbed in for Cleo was just you having to "make the lore work around the content creators and real life", I did get reminded that Gem does actually have some stated lore for her Minecraft character that I'm not sure if or not you're aware of. Lore that kinda does seem like it would slot nicely into the Life series lore if finagled a bit. During the Hermitcraft/Empires crossover, Gem goes on record in her videos to state that her Minecraft character is some kind of shapeshifting celestial entity capable of travelling between worlds at will. In Empires, she decided that she wanted to be a princess, so she became one. In Hermitcraft, she decided to be an elf, and thus she was. Obviously Gem isn't a mainstay in the Life series or its lore or anything, I just thought that there might be a possibility that there could be something there, especially if Gem does participate in a future Life season as more than just a sub-in.
