LIMITED Transmog Tokens? Is AGS Making a HUGE Mistake?

Although this is speculation, this sounds AWFUL for the future of cosmetics. Will they be paid only? I would assume so, but hopefully there will be ways to earn them!

Putting gearsets ( except the 2 freebies ) behind a paywall, pretty much zero end-game worthwhile solo content in the future, and now transmog being paid.......making it real difficult to continue logging in everyday

A better long term business plan that makes the game better instead of being a bunch EA suits trying to milk everything. You create a consumer friendly game and are generous overall, they already have armor skins, weapon skins, pets, housing, tent skins, dyes, season pass, server transfer and expansion coming soon. They can also introduce name change this should be enough revenue overall. Gearsets, Transmog and any other QoL/Core feature should be free to grow the player base, not to just grow the game but also the name New World as a franchise. After you have grown the franchise, because the game is good and consumers are happy you expand the merch store by selling posters, shirts, mount/pet plushies, character/boss statues etc, happy costumer is more likely to spend extra money, with this business model you get massive profits, while having a healthy game.

I do agree that it would be better from a business perspective. But I also feel there are better avenues to monetize. Personally, I think they would see far better gains from reducing transfer cooldowns (10 days), appearance changes, name changes, and better skins overall. This would allow players to freely use xmog and would certainly be better as far as qol goes.

Skins are the main shop item. Makes sense they wouldn't just eliminate the biggest revenue stream outside of the initial game purchase.

I’m pretty big on the drip game for my mmo’s. I like to test out what works and what doesn’t for a style I’m going for. I like ESO’s cosmetic system where it just costs gold. That being said, I’ve lost my excitement for this feature in New World.

Listen new world is an amazing game for a decent price there’s no subscription or anything it’s pay to play I am completely willing to spend a little extra to support them and get some tokens

They are going to be NICKLE-and-DIME us with Transmoging. They have TONS of customizing looks with gear and they are going to take as much money from us as possible. NEED TO ADD a VIEW ITEMS option in the Trade Post so you can VIEW what things look like on you!!!!

I'll have to wait and see how many we get for free each season and the cost per token. I was definitely expecting them to charge though. I wouldn't be bothered by them charging if they give us enough tokens on the free track for around 3-5 skin sets each season and the cost to get more tokens is around 2-3 dollars per skin set.

as a person who constantly likes to change armor appereance etc. this will suck ass kinda hoped wow or eso like system, I'd rather pay sub than have all microtransactions

I thought it was a given that transmorg was paid? this being paid sure is weird but fine, gear slots being paid after 2 was wrong. I can see how this cosmetic token thing is paid, eso i remember seeng tokens to change transmorg, tokens for rename, tokens to change name, tokens to change appearance..like all these will become tokens in new world. as long as its not pay to win we should probably accept it. Give it a year, we'll get an eso-like sub where you pay X amount and get free tokens for all sorts each month and access to bigger bags etc.. New world has alot of mmos to take inspiration from for this small moneymaking. itll only get worse. best way honestly from someone who played eso, learn to ignore the systems as they never stop being added :D

100% agree. Anyone who imagined transmog was going to be free especially after we had to pay for gear sets is crazy. The monetization of gear sets is so much more concerning to me. A year or two from now there will be so much pay for convenience shit in the shop. The game will appear low cost on the surface, but to actually enjoy the game it'll be expensive. These complaining videos will disappear and be replaced with videos of people being happy about new conveniences being added to the shop. I don't particularly like it, but most games are going this route. I play New World enough that it's probably worth it for me to buy everything, but I feel bad for the casual players or new players.

Im one of those who hate ingame shop the most. but im not sure of how big off issue this is. it all depends on cost vs drop in both free and payed season pass. but i do agree its a worry

I'm fine paying for transmogs, it's not like other games don't do it. And I think it would give them more incentive to put good skins as player rewards if they know that they will get some money out of it. It seems fair to me. It all depends on the price and whether a token = one set or one piece or if it is multiple tokens and you get multiple tokens per purchase. And since they said "collection" I'm assuming it is at least character based. Really, it isn't enough information to be pressing the panic button. But I guess we will see on the 25 how it works, then we can press the panic button and make all the lights go red and you can make all the click baity titles you want.

If they want to monetize it, they should‘ve just made it an optional sibscription where you pay like 10 Bucks a month and you can use the system as much as you like. This would still create a constant stream of money and people can freely Transmog as much as they want. The Token based system is just garbage.

Going by their current prices in cash shop its going to be fucking expensive. One of the worst mmo cash shops in any mmo I've played . Probably because the player base is so small now they have to make as much as they can. Such a frustrating game but i love it !

This is my first MMO since I played WoW for a few months when I was 10. I'm starting to think I don't really like MMOs, it's just mindless grinding and nickle and diming the player base while providing a subpar story and subpar gameplay when compared to other RPGs, such as CRPGs and Trpgs. I really wanted to like and and really tried (700 hours) but there are so many actually good games out there to spend your time on. Because that's what you are spending, time. Much more valuable than money.

They would remove the majority of the complaints if an actual in game form of content dropped them. Bdo does the same thing with certain rare items knowing you can grind a boss/dungeon /opr whatever form of content and having a very low chance would remove alot of my personal problems with it. I assume anyone not insulted by it being paid would just buy them while others would spend 1000 hours to transmog til their hearts content. Seems simple enough on my end.

I have to say... this ruined such a cool update video. Paid transmog is a huge step back. What they need to do is have a special transmog item to drop in game, maybe from the worm?!! Or expeditions. If what they want is money then they should just double down on skins for the store. The latest skins are amazing and people will still buy them
