This movie goes under the radar quite often. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone react to it. It’s such a good movie though. They even made a tv show about it.

The TV Show is trash though, the movie is pretty great though. I mean, not amazing, but a pretty good Thriller. I feel the structure and story is quite similar to Minority Report and Paycheck (both based off Philip K Dick stories).

There was a TV series based on this movie, it continued the story from a few years after the movie's time line... Also called "Limitless" it only lasted one season - but its very good, and worth checking out, and reacting too.

26:55 "If you use your brain at full capacity eventually you'll crash because we're not designed to work that way." Except we are. We all use our brains at full capacity, all day, every day.
@flatebo1
@flatebo1 Жыл бұрын
The trope that we only use a small percentage of our brains dates back to at least the 1930s when brain research was very rudimentary. They had only figured out at that point what a few parts of the brain did, but from that incomplete knowledge a meme was born. Animals don't evolve anatomy that serves no purpose. And in humans, large brains area reproductive liability, leading to deaths in childbirth among other problems. So if humans didn't actually need all of our gray matter evolution would be actively selecting against it.

Well, not exactly, technically. We can't really recall memories in exact order or in an instance even though the memory is in your head. There are people with photographic memory, but the movie is more like if a pill gave you that. And multiply it by a thousand like Hollywood movies usually do.
@blechtic
@blechtic Жыл бұрын
I'm sure we're using our brains fully, but the real question is whether they are working efficiently. Our brains were organised by evolution, which sort of stops optimizing everything at "good enough for the cost". Sure, there are probably all sorts of underlying functions we don't know about or appreciate but all the functions that exist are likely working far below their fully optimized theoretical capacity. I think we also have potential capabilities we aren't utilising, because our brains aren't trained or organised that way. An example of that would be our very limited capacity beyond 3 dimensions: I see no real reason why we couldn't think or "visualise" in higher (spatial) dimensions in an abstract manner, but our brains are trained by growth in and by evolution inside what is essentially a 3D environment so that's about as high a dimension we can deal with "out of the box". One needs specialized training in specialized fields in order to gain a true feel past that and even then it is within that very specific context, not a generalized ability. With our ability for abstraction, being able think in higher dimensions and past those 6 (chess) moves ahead without resorting to heuristics and having a total recall of past events as well as having better bodily control (especially of microexpressions, etc.) would give a significant advantage in every sort of thinking, planning and doing.

Hi Dasha, just subscribed to you today because this popped up in my suggestions, and Limitless is one of my FAV movies of all time, because it's based on a drug I take every day, modafinil. I see at least one commenter here knows the movie is based on that, totally true, they took a real drug and greatly exaggerated it's genuine cool qualities into SUPER-cool sci-fi territory, but it is really real, and very very safe. I take it every morning legally and have for years and years. My insurance covers it because I have a weird sleep disorder it treats well, but I also get all the juicy IQ-ish side effects from the movie, but dialed way down from the movie. It is true, I take it and must clean and organize things before doing anything else when it hits, it's weird but accurate like the movie. Also suppresses appetite and yes, one must eat and sleep or get unpleasant (but not scary like movie!) side effects. It is a stimulant, but not related to any other stimulants, it's own class. Like, way more than coffee, but way less than amphetamines, and it feels "clear and invisible", I do not feel "high" at all, just enhanced. My cost because of insurance is $0.40 a day. 🙂

The pill similar to this movie is called modafinil, and similarly nuvigil. You can get them prescribed for narcolepsy or sleep work shift disorder, just means you works nights normally, I take it and works well as an alternative to adderrall but nothing like the movie, but it's effective
@Stormie33
@Stormie33 8 ай бұрын
I've had modafinil on my radar for a few years, never got around to trying it yet. Does it actually improve your mental functioning at all? My understanding was that it just makes you more motivated to get shit done (which is good enough on its own).
@dominusliminus
@dominusliminus 8 ай бұрын
@@Stormie33 from my experience, yes you do have more motivation as your energy levels mentally are more up so all else follows. Does not increase base cognitive function, just utilizes more of it as you aren't tired. It's decently cheap and doesn't have the extreme crashes or addictions normally associated with other forms of stimulants.

Lucy movie is disliked because of the "10 percent of the brain" thing. But otherwise, it is a fantastic Sci-Fi movie. In almost all movies there is something factually wrong. Yet, people decide to dislike only some of those movies. OK, 10 percent is a myth, but how do you actually know that it is a complete myth? Did science fully explained the brain and the mind? Only misinformed people think that we solved all mysteries of the mind and brain. Movie is insanely fun

You do use 100% of your brain. Only small percentage of your brain is active at any one point because you do not want to feel what it would be like to have all your pain receptors firing at the same time as all your muscles contract and and all your senses cease to work because all of your primary sensory areas are being stimulated. The brain works because only a small amount of a vast network is active at anyone point. It's not just the inactivity that is important. You need the other areas of the brain to be inactive for a pattern to be apparent. It's like writing. If you cover a page entirely with ink it doesn't contain more information. It just means that anything that you wrote on it is obscured by meaningless noise.

21:15 "Wouldn't you die from infection first?" Definitely not. IF that guy has a bloodborne infection like Hepatitis, you usually need to put his blood straight into your blood, like sharing drug needles or something. Even if swallowing his blood would give you Hepatitis, that would probably never kill you, but it can destroy your liver over many years which will eventually be fatal. But you said "first". So no. He will be a genius immediately, and if the gets a disease, it will take months or years to kill him, if at all. So for sure, genius first, disease second.

3:10 "Would you try a pill to access 100% of your brain?" Nope. I already access 100% of my brain. Everybody does. This movie's premise that humans only use 20% of their brain is false. Just a myth. Even Wikipedia is correct on this one - maybe the movie's writers should have googled their premise. But if I expand your question to mean "Would I take a pill that makes me become amazingly more intelligent than I am?" Yes. Even experimentally. But not from a random dealer on a street corner - I would need to get it from a person a trust a lot and probably do everything I could to research the truth. I don't mess with my brain chemistry casually.
