I'm prepping for my paramedic NREMT Exam in 2 months after failing it 4 times so these videos have helped me tremendously with understanding what Registry is looking for and how to dissect the questions

I'm an EMT. I passed it the first time. I struggle with exams most of my life. I work so hard on the NREMT. I went to college and got a degree but I almost feel like going to EMT School and the NREMT in a way was harder. Btw I totally got this question wrong. 😂 It's so crazy.

Wn Why is 18 a High resp? Isn’t the average 12-20? Thank you

12 - 20 is a range but not a definition of normal-or abnormal if it is out of those ranges. This is a very common misconception. For a patient who is at rest, a respiratory rate at 18 may actually be high. If two people walk up a flight of stairs and one is in shape and the other isn’t, the person who is out of shape will likely be breathing faster. If this rate is above 20, it doesn’t make it abnormal. It is a normal physiological response to exertion. In the same sense we must look at all respiratory rates and match them to the patient and the clinical situation rather than an arbitrary number or range. Elevated respiratory rates have a clinical significance often missed in situations like shock, sepsis, and acidosis.
