Because being passionate about the poor is meaningless if you support an institution which is making their lives worse. If you are in support of shackling yourself to a government that is year on year getting more and more corrupt and is almost entirely bought out by the business class, and against a possible fresh start with a new organisation which will better represent the countries more progressive tendencies then your passion is utterly useless for achieving anything.

Yeah people from Northern Ireland sound Scottish because they originally came from Scotland. They're called Ulster-Scots (the Protestants) in Britain, and Scots-Irish in America. They were settled there from the borders of Scotland.

Tho not everyone in the north is of Scottish decent just as not everyone in the south is of English decent, but their variance of English that is spoken in each part of corresponds to the English speaking planters who spoke it first on the island. But I definitely wouldn't say people from northern Ireland are decended from Scots, there's a large native population which is no a slight majority of the population of NI Also even Gaelic in the north has its own style, somewhat more in common with Gaelic in Scotland than Connaught or Munster Gaelic... Ireland and Scotland have been linked for millennia prior to English ever being spoke in Britain
