eazy way to get bearings out of aluminium housings : first get all the gears and stuff out , put the housing with the bearings open end down on a cheap electric hotplate / stove , the aluminium expands more when it gets hot and usually the bearings fall out on their own , if they dont drop the case on the wooden workbench with the bearings down a few times with the old bearings out turn the still hot housing over and drop the new bearings in before its cooled down (no hammering needed ) works with putting bearings over axles too just need to heat the bearings
@marks80684 жыл бұрын
or just mig-weld a slide hammer to the bearing, thats a lot quicker
@watahyahknow4 жыл бұрын
@@marks8068 something i seen done with wheelberings is that they weld the inside race to the outside race weld realy hot and once the weld is cooled it will fall out the hole its mounted in
@marks80684 жыл бұрын
@@watahyahknow yeah I hate doing that.. that way you risk the new bearing tot being pressfit anymore and spin inside the case under load wearing out the casing. If my solution is for some reason no option I`d rather do it the way you posted first

im hoping to use the rear and front from an old golf kart on a rig im building for my kids, so it's way overbuilt. got a 1976 toro snow blower briggs that was used ONCE, original tins, sounds STRONG, thats whats going on that sucker. i just need to find a carb with an actual throttle instead of the on-off one that toro tossed on there for the blower use

RBG soak the crusty bearings in hot WD40 to drive out the moisture. Then clean with brake clean. Then soak them in the recommended gear oil for 24 hours. Then spin the removed bearing on your finger it it feels gritty discard. I'll bet it's ok.

did you get the other bearing out ??i seen on road kill they packed behind the bearing with bread and drove a rod up threw the bearing witch would put pressure on the bearing and should pop out ,,, dont pound too hard you could put rod threw the case ...
@SportbikerNZ3 жыл бұрын
bread? How can they drive a rod up through the bearing when there is no access hole behind the bearing? Makes no sense.
@randytravis39983 жыл бұрын
@@SportbikerNZ you put it in the hole then you put a rod the same size as the bearing hole ..you pack the bread in there keep adding as needed ,,there is a gap behind the bearing . and the bread will fill it ,some people may use grease too do the same thing .

You don't have to have the part number on the bearing to get a replacement. If you know the inside diameter, outside diameter and the width, any bearing shop will be able to tell you what the part number is. 99% of bearings are standard sizes. There are exceptions, but most are common. The other thing you need to know is whether the bearing is open, shielded or sealed. That is also part of the part number, but a quick glance will tell you that.

To be fair that'd be rather lackluster judging by the very underwhelming diesel engine characteristics on go karts other people made. The suggestion usually comes from people who don't really know anything about diesels.
