I know that turbos are cool and all that stuff, but two strokes are a completely different beast. If you want to make some real power, you need to get an expansion chamber on that thing.

@@Drosba A supercharger wouldn't work on this motor. You would have to redesign the whole engine. You need the expansion chamber, 2 strokes work a whole lot different than 4 strokes. The expansion chamber is part of the engine functionality as it is tuned to create an optimal shock wave that helps with pulling the air-fuel ratio into the cylinder. 2 strokes are a whole beast in and out of itself and getting the exhaust tuned properly takes a lot of research and consideration
@ls3s30z4Ай бұрын
Does that matter when you’re forcing air and fuel into the the engine using a turbo instead of using the exhaust to pull the fuel into the engine?
@capitaint9560Ай бұрын
The exhaust doesnt pull the mix into the engine from the carb, it scavenges unburnt exhaust gasses back into the cylinder, the expansion can be made longer for more bottom end power or shorter for more top end power which changes the wave. Ideally to make a turbo work effectively on a 2 stroke you would need a timed rotary valve on the exhaust to allow the cylinder to have positive pressure and also still scavenge on the exhaust gasses.
@henkverzeijl152529 күн бұрын
@@capitaint9560 Oh yes it does, a well tuned pipe WILL pull extra from the transfers, but only with a reed intake because piston and rotary intakes block any extra feed when transfers are open. Been plenty of development in the past decades, even DI engines meeting latest emission demands(!) so we might be in for a bit of a 2-stroke revival in the near future... Awesome time to brush up on your 2-stroke knowledge✌
@capitaint956029 күн бұрын
@@henkverzeijl1525 moreso the piston pushes the fuel mixture into and through the transfer ports, whilst having a reed block so still nothing extra from the carb. So my point still stands. I hope as well as you do that they make a revival but i'll hold my breath, theres been some great developments with EFI 2 strokes and if they can meet euro5 then i'm all for it!
@henkverzeijl152529 күн бұрын
@@capitaint9560 The piston indeed pushes when off the powerband, but a specifically port-matched pipe will pull extra vacuüm while transfers are opened, kind of supercharging the intake traject when piston pressure drops. All comes down to resonation associated with extremely high rpm's, so more with vibrations/ wavelengths than exact port timing. Look into Helmholtz resonators if you're interested, it's an entire rabbit's hole of its own👍

I feel like this was a great learning experience. Regarding back pressure, you need to understand that the pressure wave is created by the expansion chamber in the exhaust pipe. Without the tuned expansion chamber, you are actually making less horse power than you could otherwise. And like another comment mentioned, you NEED to put a slightly larger jet in the carburetor to really benefitfrom more air, or you may just burn up that engine. Revisiting this build with that in mind, you could have torched the exhaust pipe and bent it to allow the turbo to be placed elsewhere allowing the expansion chamber to still be a functional benefit and still power the turbo for boost. Maybe next, you could try a belt driven supercharger that is run off the starter pulley. 😊

I'm curious why you wouldn't have re-jetted the carb. Forced induction only works when you increase the fuel alongside the air (boost). If all you do is increase the air, you won't really see more horsepower unless it was running super rich to begin with, you just run the motor super lean. Unless you're dealing with a fuel injected motor with a MAP/O2 sensor, adding a turbo, supercharger or NOS without adding fuel is pointless. I think this mini bike would only be a bit faster because the factory ships these motors running crazy rich, which was pretty obvious given how much smoke it was producing out of the box.
