Hi Cindy. Just found your channel and I’m inspired to get out my cans again. I use paper punches to cut my shapes. Being a lefty I struggle with scissors and hate to ruin my good lefty scissors on aluminum. And since I use my paper punches for making cards it feels like a two for one tool. Happy Upcycling!

Hi Helen - I live with a lefty so I know a little bit about the scissor problem. I am so happy to hear you are inspired. Thanks for watching.

I like this idea a lot and I think I would add one or two more smaller pieces to the large piece. Also, there has to be another way to finish the edges other than paint. What about using solder?

Thanks for sharing this great idea. To put that hole in the aluminum, a push-pin would work better. It is easier to grasp and it has a flat base that the thumb tack doesn't.

Does the fabric paint seal the edges well enough so they won't cut you? I make bracelets with aluminum cans, but I double fold over the edges to avoid anyone getting sliced like I did before I started using gloves to help me fold them safely.
@UpcycleDesignLab2 жыл бұрын
Hi Tina - Yes it does cover the edges and you can apply a second coat but I don't think it would stand up to a lot of abrasion. Thanks for watching. 🙂

Permanent felt pen can be used when you desire to highlight specific areas in color. This is an urban folk craft in places like mexico, where the manufacture of (previously) tin christmas tree ornaments is common.

Hi Cindy I'm so happy I found your channel, your earrings are exactly what I had in mind! I wanted to ask when you adhere the embossed piece to the backing and go over your lines again, how does it not show on the backing and stays smooth? Thank you again! P.S. I will be trying this out with your very kindly offered templates on a aluminium serving plate, wish me luck 😅❤

Hi Louise - thanks for watching. If I understand your question, there is no damage to the back side because the mounting tape between the two layers acts as a cushion. Hope that helps. I hope you have fun with the project. 🙂

I didn't realize that you used dimensional fabric paint to seal the two metals [11:36]. Is the paint sturdy enough to stay on it? Many thanks.

How did you bind the two pieces of metal? You went from embossing one side [10:29] to having two pieces bound together [10:39]. Many thanks for the tutorial.
@UpcycleDesignLab2 жыл бұрын
Hi - Sorry if this was confusing. I used some mounting tape to hold two pieces of aluminum together and then finished the edges with the silver dimensional paint.

Can you cut this with a Cricut cutting machine and emboss with embossing folders? This I'd a great idea! Thanks for sharing.
@UpcycleDesignLab Жыл бұрын
Hi Donna - I am not super experienced with my cricut cutting machine. I do cut a lot of the aluminum cans with my cricut but I haven't used the embossing or debossing tool. I believe it would work but I don't think the embossed impressions would be as deep as they are when made by hand. Hope that helps thanks for watching. 🙂

What can I use instead of a embossing tool
@UpcycleDesignLab Жыл бұрын
Hi Vera - you can try using anything with a rounded tip. A pencil or pen with the tip retracted might work. But embossing tools are very inexpensive so you might want to get one eventually. Thanks for watching. 🙂
