I have 4 RadioShack LX5 speakers that I still use today. I bought them new, sometime in the 90's. I just put a new crossover in each of them.

Very nice! My dad bought his LX5 speaker's from Radioshack around the same time. They recieved rave reviews from Ken Kessler at the time. The tweeters and cabinets were very special, the woofer was ordinary. At the time they were the best budget speaker. My dads mate used a pair of Linaeum tweeters with a pair of Epos ES11 speakers turned on their side, sounded good. Did you know there are two versions of the tweeter? If you hold them up to a light and they are transparent with a redish colour, then you have the superior make. Later models have a non transparent film for the ribbons and the dynamics and efficiency is reduced, they dont sound as good. Thanks for your input!

I have a pair of those. They sound pretty good too. Weird that radio shack made them.

Tandy/Realistic made some pretty cool gear amongst the cheaper offerings and the Linaeum are a good example of that. They were made under licence from French company Linaeum whose original design incorporated a corian cabinet and special Linaeum ribbon tweeters. The way to tell if you have the superior sounding examples is to hold them up to the light amd if they are a ruby transparent color they are the better sounding units. There are also some massive examples using paper drivers that I would love to hear. I believe they are called Rubanoide, which roughly translates to Ribbon Like. Anyway, hang on to yours, they are excellent.
