Good job! I am impressed. Might I suggest a funnel next time for adding oil to the reservoir?

Might suggest also something to catch the oil and just just dump it on the floor on like it appears to be a random parking lot😅

I was able to take mine out from under the car without removing the tank. I used a T40 on an extionsion with a small swivel ratchet that I placed between the 2 hoses in front of the screw. After it was unscrewed, I pulled it out from the top by the wire and then unplugged the wire when it was out. Nice video though.

Heads up to everyone who suggest getting a funnel to pour- I don't keep funnels in my car that's just nasty, but here is a life hack that will change your world... The quart jugs like this, are meant to be held the opposite way around, precise pour and no spill lets air flow in without obstruction. You're all welcome (even the 5 quart (1.25 gals) and a ziplock of kitty litter in trunk to absorb spills makes the earth happy)

hey, I have an 02. V8 129k where is the actuator on the v8 3.9? which line from the reservoir should I follow. The small lone or the bigger line? should I Jack the car and look from up under? I ran all the trouble shoots and it led me to this being the component failure. my LS gets "warm" and it gets above norm op temp. not all the way to hot but inbetween 1/2 and 3/4. my fan does not spin fast. it does run. at a moderate, sometimes slow speed. I've owned the car for almost a year now. no other big problems but to thing about it now....I've never heard my fan run at high speed. ever. it's never gotten got til now ...and sometimes it will stay cool. but I know I need to make this repair before worse issues arise. thanks

Anyone having this kind of problems truste me just replace it with an electric fan i just did it today, the same line coming from the power steering conect it with the other line thats on the fan also it will keep the oil circulating an the electric fan conect it to a postive cable or you could also conect it from the battery better so it wont do no damage to any relay or something

I've been looking for this part "XW4Z-3783-CA - ACTUATOR ASY" on the web for about a day and had no luck with it being in stock anywhere.. that's getting replaced along with the hydraulic cooling fan motor cause the fan is wobbling. pretty sure it's a bearing issue in pump. Hippofugitive can you recommend a place that might carry this actuator by chance.. Preciate the video and info..

I have a 02 Lincoln Ls I have same over hearing problems, no current leaks in hoses, replaced water pump, thermostat , and car has a direct electric fan that's always on to help keep engine cool. But car still overheats. Would this be final thing to replace to solve my overheating problems? Even though I have an electric direct fan would the hydraulic fan pump /actuator still be needed to replace? I love this car I don't want to end up selling it. Need some insight to fix this problem.
@hippofugitive
@hippofugitive 7 жыл бұрын
Matthew Echevarria Its not common for these cars to have both electric and hydraulic fan systems. Some people just replace the hydraulic fan with an electric fan conversion kit if repairing the hydraulic system is too expensive. If you do have a hydraulic system with similar symptoms, I would try a new actuator. As its a very simple job.

I hope that you are still reading comments on your video, but I have a quick question, my car runs fine when the ac is on, but sometimes when I run the ac my car overheats, could this be the actuator?
@hippofugitive
@hippofugitive 6 жыл бұрын
Robert Cooper It could be yes. Especially if it happens when you are stopped or driving slow. If your ever over heating close to an auto shop, pull over and ask if they think your cooling fan is running as fast as it should. If its not, its the actuator.
@Coopdville26

Actually I took it to a shop on Saturday and the mechanic indeed said that it was the fan going at a slow rate of speed. He told me that I would have to replace the fan & asked him could it be the actuator, he didn't know what an actuator was so I showed him your video! He told me to go purchase the part and he will replace it for me. Hopefully, Saturday I will be riding with a/c without overheating!

I'm hoping this is what is wrong with my 2001 LS. Almost everything in the cooling system has been replaced (waterpump, thermostat, lines, degas cylinder, etc) Did it start to overheat pretty quickly after you start car? So this part controls the speed at which the fan turns? Would it be easier to just put an electric fan in, or does that cause sensor problems? Thanks for the help.- Respect
@hippofugitive
@hippofugitive 8 жыл бұрын
Mine didnt over heat right way. It would over heat after driving a few miles. The actuator increases fan speed when it starts to over heat. So when my car began to over heat, the fan was just idling at low speed. I have seen people switch to eletric fans, but i would not recommend it.

@hippofugitive
@hippofugitive 8 жыл бұрын
I does add a little bit of complexity under the hood, but hydraulic fans are actually a good design. For example, on a LS with a v8 there is very little room under the hood and a hydraulic fan vs a mechanical fan allows allows you to separate it from the engine and have more options for accessory placement. And hydraulic fans are not dependent on engine speed so that can run at full speed while at idle. Plus they arent as noisy as mechanical fans lol.
