I was able to take mine out from under the car without removing the tank. I used a T40 on an extionsion with a small swivel ratchet that I placed between the 2 hoses in front of the screw. After it was unscrewed, I pulled it out from the top by the wire and then unplugged the wire when it was out. Nice video though.

Heads up to everyone who suggest getting a funnel to pour- I don't keep funnels in my car that's just nasty, but here is a life hack that will change your world... The quart jugs like this, are meant to be held the opposite way around, precise pour and no spill lets air flow in without obstruction. You're all welcome (even the 5 quart (1.25 gals) and a ziplock of kitty litter in trunk to absorb spills makes the earth happy)

I have a 02 Lincoln Ls I have same over hearing problems, no current leaks in hoses, replaced water pump, thermostat , and car has a direct electric fan that's always on to help keep engine cool. But car still overheats. Would this be final thing to replace to solve my overheating problems? Even though I have an electric direct fan would the hydraulic fan pump /actuator still be needed to replace? I love this car I don't want to end up selling it. Need some insight to fix this problem.
@hippofugitive7 жыл бұрын
Matthew Echevarria Its not common for these cars to have both electric and hydraulic fan systems. Some people just replace the hydraulic fan with an electric fan conversion kit if repairing the hydraulic system is too expensive. If you do have a hydraulic system with similar symptoms, I would try a new actuator. As its a very simple job.

I hope that you are still reading comments on your video, but I have a quick question, my car runs fine when the ac is on, but sometimes when I run the ac my car overheats, could this be the actuator?
@hippofugitive6 жыл бұрын
Robert Cooper It could be yes. Especially if it happens when you are stopped or driving slow. If your ever over heating close to an auto shop, pull over and ask if they think your cooling fan is running as fast as it should. If its not, its the actuator.
@Coopdville266 жыл бұрын
Actually I took it to a shop on Saturday and the mechanic indeed said that it was the fan going at a slow rate of speed. I'm hoping this is what is wrong with my 2001 LS. Almost everything in the cooling system has been replaced (waterpump, thermostat, lines, degas cylinder, etc) Did it start to overheat pretty quickly after you start car? So this part controls the speed at which the fan turns? Would it be easier to just put an electric fan in, or does that cause sensor problems? Thanks for the help.- Respect
@hippofugitive8 жыл бұрын
Mine didnt over heat right way. It would over heat after driving a few miles. The actuator increases fan speed when it starts to over heat. So when my car began to over heat, the fan was just idling at low speed. I have seen people switch to eletric fans, but i would not recommend it.

what a stupid design its a V8 rear wheel drive , They could put a mechanical fan or electric fan ! what is this shit now ?
@hippofugitive8 жыл бұрын
I does add a little bit of complexity under the hood, but hydraulic fans are actually a good design. For example, on a LS with a v8 there is very little room under the hood and a hydraulic fan vs a mechanical fan allows allows you to separate it from the engine and have more options for accessory placement. And hydraulic fans are not dependent on engine speed so that can run at full speed while at idle. Plus they arent as noisy as mechanical fans lol.
