I think he was not only scared of the SEC, but he was living off the team Bob built. It was about to go down hill hard and it was time to bail.

As an OU fan, I was glad he left. It saved us from years of downward spiraling. LR is a great OC with a scheme that has been figured out already, but it's still a great offense. But, when that offense isn't clicking because the other team knows how to stop you? You have to have a defense that can stop their offense too. He never cares for that. He is an OC not a head coach. AND, he is a coward. We tried to warn you all, but you guys called us butt hurt, even when we told you, thank you for taking him off our hands. USC should have just hired the whole Dakota staff and fired the current one.
@harthart752910 ай бұрын
Riley didn't do anything at OU. He just carried on in a well established program. At USC he would have to BUILD a program up. He's never done that before so I don't know why USC assumed he could do that.

Lincoln leaving from OU in the middle of the night was the best thing that has happened to the Sooners since making Bob their coach. USC needs to help Lincoln pack his bags and make sure no one gets in his way between his mansion and the airport.

As an OU fan, defense is an after thought to LR. Riley saying he couldnt recruit to OU, hes not setting the recruiting world on fire in Los Angeles. Riley is naturally arrogant, and recruits and their famalies see this. All in all hes a FRAUD. Bob Stoops gave him the keys to a Lamborghini, he proceeded to drive it into the proverbial ground. Defense was horrible, and opposing D-Coordinators began figuring out his schemes. Brent Venables has brought in #7 class in 21, #5 22, #8 in 23 . With emphasis on elite defensive talent.

not just the defense from a fan who watched every single minute, the o line gave Caleb no time to ever run a play. Dude was scrambling as soon as they hiked the ball. in a way it felt like the o line just quit on him. One man couldn't play all positions, the development of players seemed to go reverse. ✌️ fight on

You are right, bro! Riley is a hot tempered lightweight coach, and he always will be! When real players figure him out, they will be hitting the portal! He is not an honest person, as far as I’m concerned!
@DymaxionDon10 ай бұрын
No, Lincoln Riley did not fool everyone. Remember those SEC people you ridiculed when they pointed out his shortcomings while at Oklahoma? You are correct that Lincoln Riley is not an elite coach but your memory in arriving at that decision is very selective.

You were warned 😅 good luck in the Big10 As a football fan I hope USC does make it back it's better for college football as a whole . Coaching was just part of the problem and he seems to have made some good hires. It is refusing to dump his yoga instructor and his terrible Oline coach that will be his downfall next year.😅
@superluminal8910 ай бұрын
@@jeffccr3620 No, we weren't warned. You could only say we were warned if it was known Riley was being considered for the SC job before he was hired and y'all tried to step in and say something. @superluminal89 The warning was after the hire for the people thinking it was a slam dunk hire Those of us that watched Riley destroy a culture we had built for 20 years knew what was headed to USC luckily we put enough red flags in behind him your fan base didn't have to buy into all his BS for 5 years 😉 Just so you know Josh Hannson was my 2nd to oldest sons high school coach and I'm shocked he ever made it to the college level. Riley lacks the bandwidth to be a complete head coach - a CEO if you will. He’s an offensive coordinator by nature and interest. He’s reacting now to a bigger picture because he’s lost the fan base (most football teams, regardless of talent or injuries, get better as the season progresses - this team just got worse with predictable results) and because he was undoubtedly being asked some tough questions by SC’s new AD. John Madden once said “Winning is a funny thing - it hides a lot of problems”. Going 10-3 in his first year hid those problems which are more than apparent now. And next year, hello Big10. As an SC fan my entire life, I want to be wrong about this - good luck, Lincoln!
@theanabolicviking10 ай бұрын
@curtjohnson2619 I hear your frustration, brother, and I WAS right there with you, but with his words at the end of the season, that he was going to make the focus of the team moving into the future being defense minded first, and with the hires he has made to this point, he is backing those words up... So with that being said, I do think you will be wrong, and he will become the CEO he needs to be. Remember he's only 40, he's been jolted into reality and it seems so far that he's answering the call.
@mwright_boomer10 ай бұрын
Defensive coaching is only part of the issue though. He still has Bennie Wylie on staff who is a HUGE issue. Look at his track record at OU and his two years at USC, or rather, lack thereof. Not saying he can’t change. Like you said he’s still young, but it’s gonna take a lot

@larryseago73010 ай бұрын
His Offense was a good one, until opposing coaches learned to defend it. It's old hat now, and it doesn't matter how good your players are, if you are predictable, other teams will eat your lunch. His main flaw though, is his thinking, that Offense alone wins games. That was his biggest blunder at OU and at SC. He was lax in his team preparation as to physical training, and his lack of any concern for the Defense, made him a one dimensional weak sister in games. OU now has a good offense, and a good Defense, and won 10 games. I didn't say Great, just good. Now, in the SEC, that is yet to be seen. That one will take a great Defense, and a good offense at the least to win 9 or 10 games with a easier schedule. with the tough one coming up, we'll see. L.R. can do it as well in the Big 10 , but he has to grow his thinking, expand it to encompass hard physical training and Get a great defensive mind, and turn him loose, ad let him have his share of scholarships too. If he will do that, and learn some new offense to add to his bag, he can win. But will he do it? A man that doesn't learn gets left out.

prediction for next year, USC wont have a top 50 offense. will howard throws INTs like crazy as is, but with the O line sucking ass and recruting being terrible he will get sacked, and be forced into tough throws and throw more ints. defense wont be near top 50 even if you hire kirby smart it takes a couple seasons. result? 6-6 or 5-6 season in BIG 10. they prob losing to ND, Penn State, MU, LSU, washington, maybe ucla and probably nebrska with all the talent theyve been getting in recruiting. they got high end 4 star OL granbt brix and the number 1 QB dylan riola.
