He hearkens back to a style of singing that hasn't been in style since the 1960s. That was around the time when the "pop style" of singing started to permeate Broadway.

@@annawan2518 I thought Jeremy Brett was terrific in the film version. I didn't realize until recently that he plays Sherlock Holmes in the British TV series of the same name. Unfortunately, the director of the film had many of the actors dubbed, even though they could sing just fine. Jeremy Brett was one of them; his songs were dubbed by Bill Shirley.

Really? Bartlett Sher really messed this one up. Mr Donica dashed around, chewing the scenery in the most attention grabbing performance I'd seen in years. Sorry Trevor Nunn's legendary production for the National Theatre and Moss Hart's original London and West End productions had Freddy Eynsford-Hill properly melancholy with young love. Not desperate for audience applause.
@andyskurna1407
@andyskurna1407 5 жыл бұрын
Really? You think "young love" is melancholy? How very sad you must be. Mr. Donica nailed it! He was full of the invincibility of young, positive, exuberant bravado of a man who thinks he has just found "the one." That is the interpretation that rings most true for me.
@tobiasstudtheol
@tobiasstudtheol 5 жыл бұрын
Both you are right. Love is always connected to melancholy at least if it comes to art. The most beautiful love songs ever (by John Dowland) where complete melancholies. If it comes to the human side, as which I would see the acting here, he is young and vibrant thinking he just met the one and only but is she? That will always be the question, will my partner be the right person for me.

God has given people talent, has been and always will, its up to individuals to hone those talents. This sort of singing takes discipline, something that many of today's youth seem to avoid! Just look at dancing 70 years compared to today. Back then people had moves, now people just bounce which ever way. A good friend of mine once told me, there are no "Tone deaf" people, there are just people who arent "Toned trained" . There is greatness out there yet, people just have to want to be great and be willing to do the work.

You can say what you want about supposed "greats" who've played this role in the past but really, has anyone ever done it better? Not just "singing" a song, but becoming "Freddie" & totally performing in character. Jordan is the complete package, every little nuance of the "giddiness" that Freddie would be feeling in that moment is there and it shows throughout the performance. When she mentioned how her aunt bit off the spoon, She completely done me in. And my heart went on a journey to the moon, When she told about her father and the gin. And I never saw a more enchanting farce Than that moment when she shouted "move your bloomin' ".... I have often walked down this street before; But the pavement always stayed beneath my feet before. All at once am I Several stories high. Knowing I'm on the street where you live. Are there lilac trees in the heart of town? Can you hear a lark in any other part of town? Does enchantment pour Out of ev'ry door? No, it's just on the street where you live! And oh! The towering feeling Just to know somehow you are near. The overpowering feeling That any second you may suddenly appear! People stop and stare. They don't bother me. For there's no where else on earth that I would rather be. Let the time go by, I won't care if I Can be here on the street where you live.

@@timirish2563 And, speaking as a composer/songwriter myself, this song is perfectly written and admirably well arranged. (Plus the singer's two spine-tingling 'high point' notes always get me, just as they were intended to.) Perhaps the best part is the universality of the emotion-that stunned, other-worldly feeling of initial infatuation when you're young and in love. Our world has spent a lot of its artistic attention on that particular emotion/time of life, and it is perhaps one of the greatest tragedies is that, for whatever reason-whether the passage of time, the process of aging, the pressures and disappointments of existence, and the inevitability of future loss-its timeless and singular combination of newfound pain and ecstasy cannot actually be eternal. Falling in love is truly a great, great gift in our human lives, and FINDING true love is even greater. This wonderful song captures all of that aspect of our humanity as only art can do. Kudos to Jordan for a fine, musical, and believable performance of the Lead Vocal, and to the fine orchestra as well.

@@timirish2563 There may be arguments on the music, but Lerner and Lowe created the best lyrics in My Fair Lady that have ever been written. I have been in love with these words for nearly 50 years.

What a treat--why isn't Jordan Donica more well known?! I'd see the show just to hear him--plus he has this delightful earnestness as Freddy--this young man is terrific!💝

I think compared to the original, Jordan does an excellent job of emoting the joyous quality of his recounting of elizas conversation.

I can’t stop listening to this! Jordan Donica’s voice is perfection! I have loved My Fair Lady from the first time I saw watched the movie when I was 10 with my grandmother. She was lucky enough to see the original Broadway production with Julie Andrews and Rex Harrison. Very few modern musicals have as beautiful a score as this. It is a perfect example of timeless music.

I don't know any modern musical (since 2000) that has a score like this one. Christian Dante White is the man I saw in the recent revival. He was stupendous and received ovations for his performance as Freddy. It was so nice to see this sumptuous show mounted with taste and respect. It was gorgeous! Congratulations Jordan Donica! Such liquidity!

I recently played Freddy in my high school's musical. I was having a bit of trouble with this song for obvious reasons. Then I discovered this video and was instantly blown away. After listening to this recording about a billion times I was able to sing the song really well. And, as the person who plays Freddy usually does, I stole the show. Thank you so much.
