Remember watch my mother and father dancing off and listening to this song back in the day and remember the day my father was killed in an accident in Washington DC, My mother listened to this song and cried her heart out because the love of her life was taken away, Today, I know what "Your Precious Love " Means to me, It mean I can't take the One I LOVE most for granted, because one day, I or they may never come back HOME! Great song brings back precious memories... REAL MUSIC :)

Linda Jones died on 03/14/1972, 50 years ago. She was 27 years old when she died. She was from Newark NJ. Iknew her, we came from the place, I am 78 now sadly, Lindas talent was cut short by many factors we still try to understand today.

My mother, who is 64 now, and I were listening to this song in the car the other day. She hadn't heard it in years. Toward the end of the song, she got real still, looking at the CD player with a sad look on her face that I've never seen. Tears rolled down. She hurried up and wiped them ( my mother never cries and when she does she doesn't want anybody to see her). My heart for her was really touched. I could not stop thinking about that song and my mom's reaction to it. I waited a day or so. The next day, as I was getting out of the car, I paused and asked her: mom, you remember that song that we were listening to the other day? It seem like you really got touched. What were you thinking about?" She looked at me with this "please don't make me talk about that" look, and then she said, "I was thinking about how I ruined my life". She began to share with me that around the time that song was popular, she was 19 years old. She was in love with a nice young man. His dad did not like my mom, he felt like she wasn't good enough for him. (my mom was raised in the poorer side of their town) And because that relationship that wasn't allowed, my mom ended up meeting my dad. My dad physically abused her in the worst way. He would punch her and beat her and once he even whipped her with a coat hanger. After she ran from him, she got in various unhealthy relationships; some would be abusive to her as well. Well during that time, crack-cocaine hit the scene. My mom did experiment with that drug, and wound up being a crack addict for the next 30 Years. Life was very hard for me and my sister to say the least. my mom's main thought and focus was her addiction to crack cocaine for the duration of my childhood. Me and my sister were neglected and we were physically, verbally, and mentally abused by her. Well, My mom has given her life to Christ now, she's been saved for about 12 years now. But I hadn't got the healing that I needed from the things that occurred with me in my childhood. Well, after my mother told me the story behind this song and why it touched her and shared with me the sadness and regrets, of her life; right then and there I got my release. My mom didn't want to be an abusive, crack-cocaine addict. Crack cocaine (and other controlled substances) takes the choices from the addict, and generations can be ruined. I even had a short stint where I was addicted to it for about 5 months. It felt like an eternity! So, its not like I hadn't walked a mile in her shoes. However, I chose my children over the drug. And I would always wonder why she didn't do the same. Well now I understand. She didn't know any better. No one was guiding her, she really didn't know how to guide us. I'm happy to say my mother and I now have an awesome relationship and she has a wonderful relationship with her grandchildren. It has been an absolute joy just getting to really and truly know her. I just wanted to share how this song touched me and my mother in such a profound way; and even brought healing to our family.

I loved Linda Jones but to say she would have been the Queen of soul or the best ever is debatable. 1st because she didn't live very long she only had two or three big hits. I don't think any were number one. Also you could ask 20 people who was the best of that era you have 20 different female singers listed. There is Patti Labelle, Aretha Franklin, etcetera. Everyone has rhere favorite , and no one would be wrong because everyone has different tastes.

Ms Jones passed when I was 2yrs old, but how do I miss music like this, and the artists who sang it. That bluesy, jazzy, even gospely organ sound... touched the soul, invoked the memories, moved the feet... this was "sangin" at it's finest, a time long gone, a time so missed. Such a beautiful woman, who passed at such a early age, but a star in her own right... GOD blesses 🙏

i would like to say that i consider myself a connoisseur of old soul/r&b. i grew up( between 1967-1977, i went from 9 to 20 years old ) listening to, and experiencing, the emotions and actions that these old songs, sung by Linda Jones and others were based upon. I said all that to say ; never was there a better vocalizer than her, none of them could touch her for sheer soulfulness. Her body of work wasn't as large as a lot of the women who get all the accolades of best this, best that, but it was very impactful and still resounds even in these latter days....The Immortal Linda Jones, often imitated, never duplicated!!!....R.I.P.
