Willie Nelson probably put it best when he said, "There are only two kinds of men in the world, those who have a crush on Linda Ronstadt and those who have never heard of her." For a real vocal treat I recommend "la charreada", it's in Spanish and I can't follow all of it but her vocals are astounding.

FYI - Willie Nelson was referring to Emmylou Harris in that quote.

@@donnaadler5296 I've done some research on this and have found Linda Ronstadt's name in the above quote about ten times more than Emmylou's. Willie performed with both of them, and I think that Willie might say that the same compliment could be true of both women. So actually, I think it's probable that he said something similar about each of them. The one pertaining to Emmylou is slightly different, usually stated this way: "There are two kinds of men in this world... Those who are in love with EmmyLou Harris, and those who have not met EmmyLou Harris."

What really sets Linda apart from almost anyone else is her ability to transition so flawlessly and beautifully between power and soft gentleness. That's so hard to do well. Many singers try, but they just don't have the necessary instincts. Linda is flawless in doing it.

You thought of Karen Carpenter as you listened, which I think is very on point. Linda Ronstadt and Karen Carpenter, along with Eva Cassidy, all have voices that can move from soft and sweet to belting it out, and when they let loose they never sound strained. The power in their voices sounds effortless.

Thank you, sweet man, for reacting to Linda. She is legendary. Unfortunately, due to Parkinson’s, she had to stop singing. But in her career she excelled in multiple genres: country, pop, rock, folk, big band standards, opera, and traditional Mexican music (she is Mexican-American) The Eagles started as her backup band. She was part of Trio with Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris. I had the pleasure of meeting her twice at parties in New York and she is a sweetheart. I would very much recommend her live performance on The Midnight Special of “Your No Good” kzbin.info/www/bejne/jYnRiqikq9ybn7s. It’s more rock and roll than country and her band is outrageous.

Yes, Ronstadt had it all: the pipes, the technique, the feels… She was the biggest singer of her generation. To get a feel for her more rock side, try “You’re No Good” and “When Will I Be Loved,” both huge hits. Her first song to make it big was “Different Drum,”with the group The Stone Poneys (spelled that way). Ronstadt did almost all genres, from country to rock to pop, plus jazz standards and even operetta: she starred in The Pirates of Penzance on Broadway. Of part-Mexican descent, she did at least one album in Spanish that was also a major hit. She’s also responsible for the founding of the super group, The Eagles. The loss of her voice as she aged, due to Parkinson’s Disease, is a tragedy.

She found Fry and Henley at the Trubador in Los Angeles and asked them to join the Stone Poneys, her backing band. After hearing the amazing harmonies coming from them, she helped them put Eagles ( not The Eagles) on the radar of DJs across the country. She gave them 2 members of the band and helped them try out a fifth. It wasn't known how good Henley could sing until Eagles first or second album. Jackson Brown cowrote a couple of songs on Eagles first album, including Peaceful Easy Feeling.

Everyone below has filled you in on her many successes, but Linda not only could do it all, she actually did it all. Her extensive discography proves it. She's one of the best selling artists of all time with over 100 million records sold. One of my absolute favorites has to be the album, What's New, a recording of traditional pop standards with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra. It's breathtaking. She was the first woman artist to sell out arenas, at one time was the highest paid woman in rock and had the ability to make any song she covered, absolutely her own. I'd love to see you do more of her music, and I'd suggest starting with her song, You're No Good. Great reaction!

Ah Linda, which is Spanish for "pretty" is a national treasure. As you can hear she has a powerful voice, controlled and delicate when she needs it. She started out in the late 60s w pop rock country band called the Stone Ponies: "A Different Drum ", and her first huge hit a ballad called "Long Long Time". By the 70s she had gathered some musician friends that that were more rock inspired. The performed a mix of country music which created a crossover sound at the time. Her backing band would become the legendary So Cal group The Eagles! Linda took on many cover songs from Buddy Holly, Roy O, the Rolling Stones which proved she could rock as well. She's one of two singers I know that have mastered most musical genres including opera. So more Linda reactions please!

This song is considered country rock where rock songs are played with traditional country instruments, in this case the pedal steel guitar. Linda was the queen of the music scene in LA of the early seventies. If a group photo had been taken of those that developed the genre, Linda would have been front center. Should you delve further into her catalog you will be exploring a rabbit hole of immense proportions. Linda has nominations for Grammies in more genres, 7, than any other artist in recording history and took home 5 of them in different genres. A feat no other artist can come close to matching.

She was my gateway drug to the great American songbook in the 80s with her work with Nelson Riddle. Thank you for that, Linda.

In a discussion with country songwriter Fred Foster, Dolly Parton famously said "You know, there's really only three female singers in the world: Barbra Streisand, Linda Ronstadt, and Connie Smith. The rest of us are only pretending." Linda sang a duet with Kermit the Frog years ago, When I Grow Too Old To Dream. Yup she sang live with a puppet . And she blew the doors off the Muppet's theater. The video is here on KZbin. Now don't forget to go listen to Roy Orbison's Blue Bayou as well.

She was America's sweetheart back in the day. She is a wonderful person in her interviews. I saw one of her first TV performances in the 1960's when she sang with the stone ponies. She is one of the best voices ever in any genre at any time.

The way she sings the words "Blue Bayou" slightly close together is utterly delicious...

Linda is one of the greatest vocalists of her time. IMHO she recorded one of the most heartfelt and heartbreaking songs I have ever heard. If you listen to the lyrics and her interpretation, Long Long Time can't help but bring tears to your eyes.

She has a lovelyl voice and natural talent. But the thing that always amazes me is her control. That's why he was so surprised at the beginning - she is a songwriter's dream. Her voice shows every emotion beautifully.

Her voice is one of the best ever. I think the song has an R&B vibe with a hint of country. The pedal steel guitar really brings the country. She can sing any genre. She’s that good!

Oh my gosh, this song is so freaking amazing! There are times where I’ll get in my car and open up my sunroof and play the song as loud as I can, and just sing while I’m driving down the road and living my best life at that moment!

This is easily the most beautiful female voice on the planet. Linda has the perfect blend of sweetness and power that just hits right in the heart. Interestingly, her most beautiful material was never heard on the radio. Dive more deeply and you will discover musical heaven. 🌺✌️

OMG, this lady has such a great voice!!! I'm 74 yrs and never get tired of listening to our great music from the 60's and the 70's. She can sing any kind of music because of her voice. Love her voice! ❤️ ❤️❤️

So glad you're discovering this legendary singer. Her output covers rock, country, pop, broadway, even mariachi and light opera. Her voice was so gorgeous, and she's a fabulous musician. Sadly, Parkinson's disease put an untimely end to her career, but she's still among us, happily, and is, by ALL accounts, an extremely lovely person.

Great reaction as always! One of the greatest singers there ever was. Her catalog and hits are forever long! She was the first female artist to fill stadiums. Long Time (one of her signature songs, featured in The Last of Us and TRENDING) and Desperado (written the Eagles). Her backing band became The Eagles. 38 Top-100 singles, 38!!

Isn't she amazing??!! I've seen her in concert so many times, she's incredible in person!!! 1970's through the 1990's. I've been a full fledge, card carrying fan from her first album in the 1960's with the Stone Pony's!! I remember her on stage in bare feet, in a Boy Scout uniform, flowers in her hair & singing in front of a complete orchestra (all different concerts). Her voice NEVER failed her!!! Oh yeah, I'm fan girling until my last breath!!! 🥰😎✌️🌻👣
