This woman has no fear -- I realized that from watching/reading many interviews with her. She has always said whatever she wanted, never sugarcoated it -- politics, 9/11, immigration laws, religion. And the way she has faced her health issues -- again, no fear. She has never pitied herself, and extraordinarily, she manages to completely accept her reality but not be beaten by it. I admire her so much.

Love seeing Linda speaking her mind and getting fired up. Don clumsily poked the bear by accusing her for being controversial and unwittingly unleashed Linda to make a wonderful lively and entertaining interview. Another reason to love Linda, besides her natural beauty, and the most pure expressive voice in pop music. She really is a once off, no one has matched her style since.

When Linda accepted an invite & appeared on Jay Leno, he asked her about the Spanish album. While Linda was describing how she sang to enunciate the words in the songs, Leno: interrupted her, mocked, humiliated & insulted Linda. Leno never provided Linda basic courtesies expected of a talk-show host, never gave her time to finish answering the question. Leno wld never have treated a MALE solo singer or rock band lead singer w/ such blatant, intended insults. Leno-- I never have had & never will hv civil comments or an acceptable opinion about Leno. His non-verbal message remains: hey jealous of beautiful women, who are superior Artists, in THEIR O W N rightful Domain.

...a musical preservationist and scholar. Even though she can no longer sing, I hope she has the physical strength to continue to share her musical experiences and enlighten us. I was a casual consumer of music in the 70's (had her greatest hits album and being a "young old-timer" embraced her Nelson Riddle adventure), but as a result of the documentary out now and the reading of her 2013 musical memoir, she has broadened my musical horizons and introduced me to musicians, songwriters, and other vocal artists whose gifts and contributions would have stayed hidden to me. I'm even hoping to go see Jimmy Webb (Adios, Still Within the Sound of My Voice) in November at a reboot of My Father's Place in Roslyn, NY, a club at which Ms. Ronstadt appeared in '74 (There's a wonderful audio of this performance on KZbin as it was broadcast live on a local radio station.). Ms. Ronstadt and I would probably draw different conclusions on a variety of topics, but I so admire her intellectual honesty, her complete lack of artifice and hypocrisy, and most importantly her respect and reverence for those who came before her‐all evidenced in this interview. Her earnestness, vigilance and single- mindedness in unearthing music from different eras and cultures and showcasing them in the best possible light is so admirable and inspiring. The twilight of her life is now like its dawn-parked near a "radio" devouring music, music, music. Her peripatetic life in-between was something to behold: she did not waste a moment, a note, or a chance to collaborate with other talented, serious, and beauty-seeking artists. I don't know Ms. Ronstadt's religious beliefs, but for me her gifts and discipline and devotion to expressing them embodied the sacred and divine. I ask God to bless her, her family, and her caregivers and be near to her in ways that bring her comfort... in the way the realization of her "simple dream" has done for me.

She just paid attention to the TV(which was much more responsible, then) and read newspapers and books. What's going on these days hasn't changed much; but the media has been changed into tabloid form, as the host says about Murdock's "empire." The problem is that people expect this tabloid view for all of their TV fare; and the old media outlets try to get back some of their former glory(and respectability) back, while the Fox machine grinds out more comic-book style "News! News! News!" and people accept whatever crap that they say. It's like sugar-coated cereal; it's bad, but kids still reach for it first.

When I saw some of this interview in the documentary about her, I thought the same thing. I came here to see if I could find the interview and of course here it is. Having watched it again, I think she's engaging in a false equivalency here. Certainly there is racism in the United States and the other places she mentioned. However, that racism is not an official government policy as it was in South Africa. So it's not the same thing. The controversy wasn't about playing in a place with racism, it was about playing in a place where racism was official government policy.

Luv her forever. One of the finest voices in the history of popular music, sharp mind, lacking that celebrity self-absorption and in possession of the most adorable soul. Yeah and she is pretty damn cute to look at.

What a remarkably SMOOTH singing voice. A voice that is so naturally elegant. Linda's temperament and ease singing tunes of her choice is so professionally inviting.

Everyone has a opinion. Personally, I wish she had political views more like my own, but what really matters is that Linda will be remembered for her unmatched vocal ability. Especially in her early and mid 70's work. Heart like a wheel, Hasten Down the Wind, Simple Dreams...these efforts moved me as a young man. The poor production values on some of these albums only served to endear millions to her wonderful singing and the great musicians and songwriters that she worked with. The great thing about music, in many cases, is that one can separate the person from the body of work. Music is the magic, no matter who brings it about. I'll always have a special place in my heart for Linda Ronstadt. May the Lord grant her long life and Joy.

Joseph Hafford republicans are absolutely disgusting. nobody with this much heart, soul and brains would be a right-winger. why don't you go back to your anita bryant and kate smith videos.

Well, she aligns with my political views, perfectly. So, I get to enjoy the whole enchillada!

@@frankpeter6851 I know this was an old reply to an even older comment but I have to say something. Your reply to Joseph Hafford's comment is what's really disgusting. There was nothing wrong with his comment, he was polite and clearly loves her music. There is nothing evil about being on the political right. In fact... I would dare say it's quite the opposite. Especially these days. I don't care for Trump. But he was elected. And probably will be again. So get the fuck over it.

@@garysmith3097 Still feel the same way, if not more so. Fuck republicans Fuck libertarian shills Fuck anyone who remains "conservative" in this era of fascism. Especially when they poop their shit out around artists of integrity and conscioussness. It is not completely all about the music. It is also about the context wherein it was conceived and created.

I simply adore this woman. Through all her life in the spotlights, she has always been so very real. And what she says about vultures like Murdoch still stands to this day. You rock Linda. Thank you for you. You are beautiful in every aspect.
