Quite honestly, full disclosure, the first time and every time, I have seen Lex on this channel, the first thought that jumps into my mind is "Linda Ronstadt". I know I am not alone with that, obvious, to us, comparison. SO, watching this, and Lex's reaction was incredible brain candy for me. I was having this tiny giggle fit that she was unaware of all of the common threads in their two respective lives, and she was enjoying this, not knowing how much alike they seem to be. Beautiful haircut, Lex. Hi Marley!

You've just discovered one of the purest and greatest voices of all time. Real rabbit hole. This is a real tear jerker. Linda does folk, rock, country, opera, hispanic...anything. She is part Mexican on her fathers side and it shows in her perfect Spanish songs for which she made several albums. Her backing band in the early years became the Eagles and she was instrumental in keeping them together. Just a wonderful artist and sad that she is now too ill to sing.

@@mistersnitty7721 - I became an instant fan when I saw her at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles in August 1970 when I was 18 (she had recently turned 24), shortly after she went solo. She was just one minor act of several then-recent popular performers (Classics IV, Tony Joe White, others). But when she began by opening with "The Only Mamma That'll Walk The Line", barefoot, I was awed. After that experience, I went right out and bought the albums Hand Sown, Home Grown and Silk Purse. When I was invited to go to that concert, I had never even heard of her! Found out she was appearing at The Palomino Club in North Hollywood (country bar and concert venue) and paid a whole $6 for a ticket, sitting practically under her nose (she performed there 2-3 times a year until hitting it big in 1974). Saw her at college concert, Disneyland, TV. After she hit it big, I had to pay $75 to see her perform at large venues from a distance. Bought every album, and eventually CDs, as they came out. Loved everything she did in any language or style. Must be torture for her to have an active brain and interest, but can no longer fulfill her calling.

Linda’s greatest talent was always knowing EXACTLY the best songs to sing. She promoted the careers of so many brilliant songwriters. The best of life is displayed in your reactions to this song...The opportunity to sit and listen to another's voice and music, and be overcome with emotion is the whole point to music. The way you both allow yourselves to be vulnerable and real, with the artifice of stoicism put aside and just connecting to the truth of emotion in music, is a joy to me.

She was the top female rock performer throughout the 70's into the early 80's able to sell out arenas easily. In the early 80's she tired of the confines of rock and began to explore other genres-New Age, mariachi, the Great American Songbook and jazz among others, even operetta appearing on Broadway in Gilbert & Sullivan's Pirates of Penzance to great acclaim. She's also partnered with many artists particularly Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris for a couple of albums where the three were billed as Trio. There are dozens of different directions for you to take to start exploring her catalog but I'd suggest What's New? or I'm a Fool to Want You from her work with Nelson Riddle, Someone to Lay Down Beside Me from her major rock period, Adios from her adult contemporary years or La Charreada from her works exploring her Mexican heritage. But that's just a drop in the bucket from her vast output. And yes her version of Desperado is hauntingly beautiful. There is a very good documentary about her and her career called Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice which I believe is available on KZbin. Sadly she has been stricken with the degenerative disease Progressive Supranuclear Palsy and it's robbed her of her singing voice and most of her mobility but her legacy is vast.

Congratulations, you have just discovered one of the greatest voices of all time. I know that gets said a lot about many artists but she truly is in a class of her own. She was the first female artist to sell out stadiums, that is how good she is and how many hits she had! She dominated the 70s and it confounds me how she escaped the newer generations. She had 38 top 100 singles, which in itself is EPIC! Listen to Blue Bayou and Desperado for starters.

Linda Ronstadt is one of the most genre - diverse popular singers of the late 1960s - the early 2000s: rock; country; pop; "'a touch of" new wave; light opera; American standards; Latin. HUGELY popular in the 1970s and one of my all-time favorites (What a VOICE!). Greatly respected by her peers; the 9th highest selling female solo artist in the US; 11 Grammy wins; a Kennedy Center honoree. Her "HEART LIKE A WHEEL" album is classic 70s; her "CANCIONES de MI PADRE" album is the biggest selling non-English album in American history; "TRIO 1 & 2" albums w/Dolly Parton & Emmylou Harris are exceptional. ~*

Linda had the ability to color her voice and shape the notes so each word she sings you can hear the emotion the song is about. In Long, Long Time it's heartache. Linda's coloring of her voice is what drew me to her in early 74. It's what I believe keeps drawing others when they are exposed to one of her songs to explore her catalog. She does jilted ferocity in "You're No Good" her first smash hit which you should give a spin. My favorite version is from the TV concert show Midnight Special where a few of her musical friends joined her regular band to give a great performance.

Guys, I envy the fact that you just discovered Linda Ronstadt. I’ve been listening to her for over 50 yrs. She along with Karen Carpenter, Joni Mitchell too were “thee Voices” of the ‘70’s. Linda has sung all the genre, Rock, Pop, Standards, Mexican Rancheras ( she’s half Mexican) her album “Canciones de Mi Padre” won a Grammy and has the distinction of being the Most Sold Album that is Not English. She was quoted as saying, “Growing up in my house, English was the language we Spoke, but Spanish is the language we Sang.” She can’t speak Spanish, but she can sure sing it. “Los Laureles”, “ La Charreada”, “Hay Unos Ojos”. PBS has a Concert of this album recorded Live. It’s on KZbin, check it out. She has done 3 American Standard Album with Conductor Nelson Riddle. She has done an Operetta on Broadway “Pirates of Penzance”. There is nothing she hasn’t done. Check out her “Blue Bayou”, “You’re No Good”, “Silver Thread and Golden Needles”, “Different Drum”. Her along with Dolly Parton and Emmy Lou Harris have put out 3 Albums under the name of “The Trio” that Went Platinum the day they came out, all three! You guys are in for a real treat, Enjoy!….. The thing about Linda is that she wasn't JUST a singer, she was always a very integral part of that era, and she never remained static--she was always true to herself and yet growing and changing with the times. She wasn't necessarily always "in your face" but she was ALWAYS "there". Be sure to check out the entire range of her catalog. Love the emotional honesty evoked by beautiful music. Linda Ronstadt is a gift. As others have said - she sang in many “voices”. Check out her Kennedy Center Honors tribute. Desperado - yes. Henley and Frey said it’s the best.

The connections that Linda Ronstadt has to other great people in music like James Taylor Jackson Browne Don Henley pretty much all of the eagles and others is a vast treasure trove of music that you have yet to discover. You really need to get into her back catalog and start there.

Talk about Trailblazer for women, she was traveling with all men for many many years, she was force. she is the one who put the Eagles together, Glen Frey and Don Henley were part of her band. She has the most beautiful music and that voice. She is now sick with Parkinson’s and not able to sing. There is an amazing documentary about her life, called The Sound of Voice. She has the best selling Spanish album, I would suggest that album, she did Old Mexican folk songs for her father. She was made to keep her Mexican heritage private. When the album came out, it was the most beautiful music and her fricking voice is outrageous. Linda and Bob Seger are my favorite artists back in the early 70’s my older siblings introduced me to her and Bob I was 5 years old. Now 57 and these 2 dominate my play list.

Linda is at her best live. Her concerts in Germany at the Rockpalast in 1976 and in Atlanta in 1977 show her at the very pinnacle of her greatness. And her live band is outstanding. Complete concerts and individual songs are all over KZbin. Like a lot of young pups back in the day, had a major crush on Linda. Still do.

She has a large catalogue great of music from multiple genres. If you've seen the movie "An American Tail", she sang, with James Ingram, "Somewhere Out There." She also did a cover of the Rolling Stones song "Tumbling Dice." I got to see her at a concert back in 1979 and she was as good live as she is recorded.

Linda Ronstadt is a legend. Being from across the pond I wasn't as exposed to as much of her music as the rest of you here, but I have her Greatest Hits Volumes 1 and 2 on vinyl and 'You're No Good' has been one of my favourite songs for 45 years now. By the by.... the 'Silk Purse' album cover in with the pigs is a play on the old proverb 'You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear'. Lovely song guys, there's so much lovely music from Linda's career to listen to.

I've been waiting a long long time for you two to discover Linda, one of the greatest vocalists of all time.I've been a fan since her first hit Different Drum with the Stone Poneys. "The "Rock Queen" of the 70's and 80's was not really so much a musician or writer but had a talent of taking others' songs and making them her own such as Desperado. She could sing any genre of music from pop, folk, country, R&B, American Standards, Traditional Mexican, and even performing on Broadway in Pirates of Penzance with Kevin Kline. There is a documentary available on KZbin called Linda Ronstadt The Sound Of My Voice that I enjoyed so much I had to buy the DVD. She is the winner of 10 Grammy awards and 26 nominations. I'm glad you reacted to Long Long Time. Most other reactors do Blue Bayou or You're No Good but she has so much more. Next you should discover one of her old friends, Jackson Browne. His self titled albums Jackson Browne (sometimes called Saturate Before Using due to the cover art) and Late For The Sky. Both are classic albums that will bring tears to your eyes at times. One of our greatest lyricists his songs are very deep and descriptive as well as relatable to everyone. Very deep catalog of great music.

*~ So many songs to pick & choose from...a smattering of some of my favorites, some hits: "LONG, LONG TIME "; "I CAN'T HELP IT (IF I'M STILL IN LOVE WITH YOU)"; "LOSE AGAIN"; "LOVE IS A ROSE"; "LOVE HAS NO PRIDE"; "TRACKS OF MY TEARS"; "THAT'LL BE THE DAY"; "IT DOESN'T MATTER ANYMORE"; "MANY RIVERS TO CROSS"; "SOMEONE TO LAY DOWN BESIDE ME"; "BLUE BAYOU"; "OOH BABY BABY"; "I KNEW YOU WHEN"; "LA CHARREADA" (This one is superlative!); "HIGH SIERRA" (w/ Dolly & Emmylou); "I GO TO PIECES" (1998); "ADIOS"...I could name 60 other songs, and there would be still more. (She also won 2 Country Music Awards in addition to her many accolades; she was responsible for the genesis of the EAGLES forming as a band; the 2019 documentary about Linda: "THE SOUND OF MY VOICE" is exceptional). There will never be another like Linda; she was authentic as an artist, beautiful & a genuinely good human being by many accounts ~*

Loved Linda Ronstadt's recording of this song from the first time I heard it back in 1970. It's largely unknown and deserves to be heard. Beautiful and one of a kind song. Wonderful performance from Linda R., as always! "Livin' in the memory of a love that never was." Never heard a better description of unrequited love.

Aww, you two! What a sweet reaction! It's interesting that you both had such an emotional reaction, when you all share her heritage on her dad's side- Mexican and German! Linda's wonderful pipes are really showcased on this song, ranging from delicate to powerful. She always interprets other's songs so well, giving them her style, while not straying far from the true feeling of them. She has an impressive catalogue and I look forward to your future reactions to her wildly varied work. 🎵❤️🎵 Debbie

When my college friends wouldn't listen to anything other than The Dead, The Stones, and Clapton, I'd put on Linda Rondstadt as a break from it. We all would enjoy her. Her voice was incredible and she still had the hippie chick vibe even if it wasn't the rock we otherwise listened to. She was also someone that you'd never skip over if she came up on the radio or mix tape or later on a playlist. She had a perfect voice that you could never turn off.

Linda’s repertoire is almost endless. You could break them up into genres she has crossed so many lines. I suggest some less well known or commercial songs like: I Never Will Marry( a song with Dolly Parton on background vocals); Carmelita; Simple Man, Simple Dreams; Blue Bayou; You’re No Good. Can’t go wrong with any song. She was too 5 greatest female vocalist of all time IMO! Great job. Oh, I cried though that episode of The Last of Us. One of the best renderings of that subject matter, ever!!! Was not expected for sure!

You will be blown away. She was a huge part of my teens/ young adult years 70s 80s. Her voice has so many layers. She can sing any genre. She has Mexican heritage. Check out her album(s) of that also. She developed Parkinsons Disease and can no longer sing. Now you will understand "that voice "is silent. This is my favorite song she sings. It's a huge hole. Please find time. I won't be on patreon. I barely listen because of your decision to focus on patreon ,your decision, your channel. I respect that. Linda and the Early Eagles have a link. Thanks for the freebie tonight. Best female voice along with Barbra Streisand in my opinion. I was blessed to experience both in my generation.

Linda is incredible and never needed a microphone. I saw her in 77 at the Greek Theater and you could hear her all the way in the back in the knoll we sat on. She is, or was, a very intelligent woman who did not suffer fools. And as such was intimidating to many men, but not all. You want to start at the beginning find her with the Stone Pony's... singing Orion Look Down. That song still resonates through my universe...as she does.
