Linda Ronstadt is the greatest, most versatile female vocalist of her generation. And, this is a live performance and the 3rd verse is cut out. The one you hear in The Last of Us is the studio version from Linda's 1970 album, Silk Purse. The song earned Linda her first Grammy nomination for Best Female Vocalist for Long, Long Time.

It’s sad that the only reason a lot of young people are suddenly discovering Linda ronstadt is because of a stupid show. If not for her song being on that show, sadly a lot of these people would still not know about her

*PLEASE watch the 2019 documentary, "Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice." She discovered The Eagles, sang rock, pop, country, old jazz standards, and Mexican folklorico! She is brilliant and beautiful. Her singing voice is gone now, but that documentary and her many other hits across countless genres will ROCK YOUR WORLD*

I watch and listen to Linda sing this song with the picture in my mind of what she looks like today. White hair, unable to sing anymore because of Parkinson disease. Makes me sad. Getting old is really the pits. I'll always love this beautiful song.

Linda was the first female rock star to sell out stadium concerts. She also holds the record for the biggest selling non-English language album in the history of American recorded music, for her Mexican Mariachi album "Canciones de Mi Padre". She is the real deal. So many awards. Responsible for The Eagles. Amazingly successful in Country, Rock, Pop, Mariachi, American Standards with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra, Jazz, Light Opera, Afro-Cuban, New Wave and duets with the biggest stars in music. Selena Gomez will be playing Linda in an upcoming biopic. You just saw her as a young, up and coming singer in this video. Wait till you hear her and see her as she progresses. Her vocals are everything.

I have the studio version on vinyl. It was originally released on her "Silk Purse" album in 1970, but I have it on her "Different Drum" LP released in 1974. Another great song from the same record is "Rock Me on the Water", written by Jackson Browne. I saw her live at the Lion's Share, a small club in San Anselmo, north of San Francisco. Our table was up front and center stage. I'll never forget that night.

... though I have heard this song since it was first released in 1970, it will henceforth be known by me as the "Bill & Frank Song". This performance of the song omits the final verse that was used during the final scene and closing credits of "The Last of Us" episode 3. As for Emmy awards, Nick Offerman (Bill) and Murray Bartlett (Frank) were both up for the Emmy for Best Guest Actor in a Drama Series, along with other actors... several also from "The Last of Us". Nick Offerman WON!!!!!!!!!!!!

She has the most beautiful female voice on the planet. Unfortunately, these live performances always cut out an entire verse of this song in order to fit the format of the variety shows at the time. This one was from The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour. You should check out the studio version to hear the whole song. Otherwise, you can never go wrong with her live performances. Her concerts were legendary and her voice was strong, sweet, and incredibly powerful. I recommend “Down So Low” performed live in Germany kzbin.info/www/bejne/emjKdKd5jN2Hj9Esi=adA7l3GRlN9dJtfZ. It will leave you speechless. It’s very soulful and will grab your heart from the first note. Great reaction. 🌺✌️

Linda, who lost that amazing voice to Parkinson's Disease, is a National Treasure. She set the bar high for every female singer to follow. She just had a naturally versatile voice. I have not heard another voice to match hers until I heard Gabriel Henrique of Brazil. He has her power and her versatility. I wish he would sing something of hers. This is a link to him singing "Hurt" by Christina Aguilera. kzbin.info/www/bejne/h37NZYWBaMpmhM0si=wjlT4HyFPpSNJyFI He can honor Linda!

She was such a good vocalist. To me the stand out female vocalist of the '70's, and considering there was Stevie Nicks, Dolly Parton, Emmy Lou Harris, and Kate Bush making fine music too, to stand out in that lot makes her a special performer. She was so versatile, blues, country, Cajun, rock 'n' roll, she did them all effortlessly and owned each tune she performed. Her covers of Warren Zevon's, "Poor, poor pitiful me" and The Rolling Stones, " Tumbling Dice," are great examples of her rock 'n' roll abilities. Other than Bette Midler's cover of The Stones, "Beast of Burden," no one has owned a Stone's song as much as Linda did on her version of, " Tumbling Dice."

Amazing that after The Last Of Us episode 3 aired, the downloads for this song increased almost 5000%, more than 50 years after it was originally released. She was an extremely versatile singer who was very popular in a number of music genres, including opera. I had the biggest crush on her when I was a kid. Such a gorgeous voice and beautiful to look at, evey teenage boy did. And I agree, last of Us, Episode 3 should have won a ton of awards. It was an amazing episode with a great story, great music, and top notch acting. Nick Offerman (Bill) won an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series and Storm Reid (Riley) won the same for Actress. It also won a few Emmys for things like Sound Editing, Picture Editing, Sound Mixing, Visual Effects and Prosthetic makeup, among others. A total of 8 Emmys in 2023, but it should have won a lot more.

Unfortunately, the performance you reacted to is a shortened version, cutting out quite a lot, maybe because of time constraint. Here's a link to a much better performance on "The Johnny Cash Show", not only the whole song, but the first time she ever performed it publicly, months before it was even played on the radio or recorded for a record. In fact, it's better than the studio version. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bp-uq3mFm66dg8k As a bonus, here's a link to the guy who suggested "Long Long Time" for "The Last of Us", deconstructing it and telling us why her performance is so great: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aJTdn5Snq7eFrpo

Yeah, sorry bro, but that's not the whole song. It's a short version, which is kind of a musical sacrilege in my book. Maybe it's just me, but her vocals in this version, while always stunning, don't have quite the emotional impact as the studio version for me. She also did a live performance on the Johnny Cash show which was fantastic, and she sung it like she meant every word. So I suggest you check those two out as well. Of course, there's no such thing as a bad Linda performance, especially back in her prime. There was only amazing and even more amazing. She could have been shitfaced drunk and singing kumbaya on a Greyhound bus rolling over a bumpy dirt road and still be amazing.
