In her mind, Linda Tripp was doing her duty to the nation. Unfortunately, she betrayed her friend in order to do that" duty". Her ego and narcissism were major motivators.

For most of the story, Linda was good to Monica, but she wasn't good for her. Monica could have needed a maternal friend, a woman with life experience to give her both a shoulder to cry on and guide her in making mature decisions. The closest Linda ever got to that was during the sleepover, when a horrified Linda hears the story about how Monica was seduced by a teacher -- after having been raped by a camp counselor at age 15. Linda doesn't take any shit from men, you can tell when she repeats "He was your teacher", when Monica says that he wasn't really her teacher because the drama lessons were extracurricular. You can tell that Linda briefly doubts her actions when she looks at Monica sleeping peacefully, looking so young and vulnerable. But she continued her charade anyway. I think Linda was at her worst when she encouraged Monica's romantic feelings. "I bet he's thinking about you all the time." Would Monica have cooperated if, once the affair was over, Linda had revealed her true intentions to Monica and told her that they would get Bill's ass if they worked together? Probably not, because Monica still loved Bill. She continued to protect him even when her freedom was at stake.

Her life, the life of her friend, Monica, and her children, were her motivating factors.

Great compilation. Wish this was a movie, so Paulsen would receive an Oscar.

Sarah Paulson obviously spent years studying my mother without my knowledge…..how she managed to sneak into our tiny village in the Scottish highlands is beyond me, but she’s nailed my mother and her vile ways perfectly!

It was clear as day Tripp was expecting a large amount of praise for what she did. However the nation saw her for what she was, manipulative and treacherous all for 15 minutes of fame

When Tripp was acquitted of violating the phone-tapping laws in Maryland, she had the audacity to stand before microphones and announce, “I am one of you . . . I am you.” Sorry, Linda, not even close. Not all of us possess your crude narcissism or sense of entitlement! I’m sorry she suffered in her later years. But the greatest irony: when she was first diagnosed with breast cancer, her “spokesperson” said, “Ms Tripp hopes that her privacy will be respected.” Except for the most rabid anti-Clinton paranoids, no one would see Tripp as having left behind a positive legacy.

I really think Linda truly thought she was doing the right thing. I don't think she considered that this might have a lasting effect on Monica and it would do the damage it did. I don't think she thought too deeply into the future about it. A lapse in judgment, perhaps. I think when she envisioned an outcome she envisioned Bill Clinton being taken down. He wasn't. Instead, Monica was taken down. I don't think that occurred to her. She saw Monica as a beautiful child who would get her life back and sail off into the sunset with some great Jewish guy. I think when she thought of avenging Bill, she was also avenging her adulterous father. The whole thing is sad. It's sad what happened to Monica and it's sad what happened to Linda.....and it's sad that these things were going on in the White House. It's disgraceful. Bill Clinton disgusts me.

Wow ! She is proof that when you don’t get your ego in check and you’re a narcissist , you will do anything for attention . She ended up paying the consequence for being a horrible friend and doing her duty
