Linda Raynier The way you explain Traits 2&5 is amazing. I was working on those already, but you made it easy and smooth to master those. I’m going to be Professional and gain more friends at the work environment at the same time. And I’m going to improve the way I influence my opinion to a group or to my boss. And all the traits are very useful. Thank you again.

One thing that has helped me in the corporate world is when you have the opportunity to voice your opinion on an issue or rules... Dont just complain about it.. Instead voice your opinion respectfully and offer a solution in the same sentence. Not only do they realize you have a voice and not afraid to speak up, but you’re also a problem solver and managers LOVE THAT!!!!!

Not in the construction industry. All they care about is initial cost. You can make a reasonable suggestion and a great solution, but if it will cost a few dollars more they will dismiss it and you will be shunned for making such suggestions. Even if you show them how it will improve the company’s quality and reputation. I have shown the builder I work for a way to save money and keep us from looking like the cheapest company around, but because the money saved does not happen until after the possession of the home they do not care and constantly shoot the ideas down. Even though it will save them money in the long run. It is pure stupidity and stubbornness. And why many have left and I may be next.

There's definitely a plus for being a top performer, but you just can't beat a team of families and friends. They will always hire their people first. I've seen it first hand.

This is a huge challenge for me because I'm a naturally quiet person that would rather keep to myself more often than not. People genuinely like me, but I'm also not the kind of person that someone would want to emulate or invite out for a birthday. I don't have a choice other than to change, but it's honestly not fair. I like how I am, I like having a strong internal presence and choosing to speak with purpose rather than to put on a performance for others so that they feel entertained. I wish I could be like them, I really do.

Robin I totally agree with you. I am an introvert but have to play it nice and do all those small talks so I am being “seen” by others. The other thing is - this type of communication without purpose is draining me a lot and I am tired from it. But learned the hard way in previous job that I have to pretend to be social just to get where I want. Being simply hard working is not enough.

doesn matter how hard you work. dont get stuck with the wrong manager. by wrong i mean someone that’s wired differently than you. you can be a dream come true, but the wrong manager will use a race stallion to workthe land... because that’s the only way they know to use their resources. so run until you find a fitting culture, where people get you. thats it.

Excellent advice. In my experience, people who exhibit these characteristics do get promoted. And organizations look like they are staffed with clones. Everyone above a certain level has the same demeanor. Everyone below a certain level is an individual with a unique personality. If this comes naturally or you can act, you hit the jackpot. This makes me rethink even wanting a promotion.

my previous boss was too senior compared to my position and he left me in the hand of other underlings in the department. so getting any upward movement was very slow. in 2 years i expected to at least get $10k raise and a promotion with Jr. removed from my title. but it never happened. then layoff due to covid came and i was booted. when i started looking again i realized my last pay was 60% below market. i managed to quickly in few weeks get a job with 30% pay. i could wait for more but i would much rather be working.

If you are too good in your current position, what motivation does the company have to promote you? You want to be good but not too good. Learn how to ask and fight for what you want. Also learn your value and don’t be afraid to move on if needs be. Good luck to all. This rat race is crazy out here.

Your manager sets the office tone. If your manager is toxic, look for another job. You will be miserable if you stay. The manager will promote others they like, no matter if you're the top performer, you will never get that promotion.

It is very difficult to keep the balance at work with being professional but friendly & at the same time keeping the boundary , when you are with other people in a room for long period of time. And making sure there is no clash of personality. Sometime you just don't fit in the culture of the office. Also,in some organisation, it doesn't matter how hard you work, how helpful you are to others, if they want to pass you they do. Sometime they want to employ someone from outside.

Really great points Linda thanks for sharing this. The mindset of working harder = promotion is such a misconception. The points you made all relate to your profile within the organisation. I have seen alot of people being promoted solely based on the time they take in promoting themselves to get promoted. They are seen and act the part before getting the part. If that makes sense. Social science literature clearly shows that performance reviews are flawed. Add this on top of bosses conducting performance reviews with bias and a tendency to rate everyone as "average." Finally, layer this problem with managers conducting reviews without any significant understanding of what it is that the employee does.

This video and the advice are instructives for sure. However I am wondering in how many companies this charming intelligent lady has been working and for how long and if she got promoted regularly…? No person who got promoted display 1/3 of the skills she is presenting to us in the corporate world I know….. these skills are great to develop as much as possible but no one can be that perfect and certainly not those who get to the top ! People get promoted mainly because they have the weaknesses that are looking for by those who decide who to promote.

@MrApplewine6 жыл бұрын
Make sure to spend plenty of time looking at job listings in your area and other cities. Apply for these positions even if they say they want more experience or list more skills. Go on interviews and make an offer and make sure it is enough to live comfortably to pay for housing, food and taxes and ideally not spend more than half of your salary. You cannot fix these other people. Also, consider if you are a young woman (under 40) if this is the time in your life you want to be focusing on making money when you could be having children (in a committed monogamous relationship where the man agrees to having children with you explicitly) and perhaps even home schooling them. If you want to have at least three children in order to grow the population and spend at least 6 years with each of them while they are young full time that is a considerable amount of time that can only be done while you are in your 20's and 30's. Otherwise the civilization continues to decline and you miss out on this enjoyable activity of giving a person all the things they need to be happy and healthy and build a peaceful and prosperous society. The feminist lifestyle, while popular, is not healthy and goes against human nature and is also destroying western civilization, as it was designed to do.

I agree....I just saw another video by someone who seemed pretty good with job advice but then advised that people use a positive trait when asked to tell a negative one and she used the tired, old example of "I'm such a perfectionist". I think employers must be getting so tired of hearing that one heheh. I like that you advised against it. I'm new here and really digging your videos. Great job:D

These are good themes. Still, I am new to work ( just got my first full time job 4 years ago ) and I have seen many examples of incredibly smart and loyal employees being past up for promotion ( while everyone else in the team was bailing - for good reason, given that it looked liked no one was every promoted ). The team was run down to 3 loyal people ( that had been in their roles for 4 years or more ) , whereas the team should have been 9 - 10.
