Thanks Linda for sharing so freely, this has really helped me, I now look for the “charming” aspects of every day life and I challenge anyone reading to put it to the test. ❤

I got rid of my dishwasher because I found doing dishes was very calming. So i asked my husband to restore an old beautiful sink and just surround it with beautiful things. I also read a quote by St. Teresa of Calcutta, "Wash the plate not because it is dirty, nor because you are told to wash it, but because you love the person who will use it next." I think if we stop thinking of self that helps. Also, It gives me joy to cook for others.

Phoebe, I loved your comment and can so relate! When I was a young child, my grandmother lived with us and would sing hymns while doing dishes. As I got older and my grandmother had since passed away, I would wash dishes and sing hymns when I was sad or troubled. I washed dishes as a mother of my young sons and wife and still wash dishes even though I have a dish washer. Be happy and find joy in the little things and Linda’s (and Stewart and Leah) videos.) I love coffee with my friends😘

Thankyou Linda for this video. I totally understood your comments of puking, thats one thing i really hate too, is having a upset stomach. One thing I have to keep me uplifted is a bible verse by our front door. It says "This is the Day which the Lord has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it." Psalms 118:24) When my mother was alive, she would buy a brand of eggs & on every carton it had this bible verse on it. She could not throw the carton away until she cut the bible verse out & she would give the verse to members of the family. She even glued the verse on plastic pink plates for my girls and a blue plate for my son. I have one cut out of the bible verse i keep next to a brass decoration by our front door to remind me I can rejoice every day. She has been gone for 28 yrs --- but the verse she gave me has helped me so much. Another thing that helps me not to get down is a saying my mother's mother would always say which is "children, the blessed sun is shining". And others in the family/my relatives also remember that Ma as my cousins & I called her would say. She said children even if talking to grandkids -- she was the mother of 10 children, 30 grandchildren and alot of greats when she passed away in 1983 -- I was born on her birthday, so that was so special to me.. Linda --- I hope your frozen pipes etc is back to normal soon.

Linda-I’m sorry to hear about your frozen things 🩷. I would like to share that I’ve watched you for a very long time. I have found this video to be one of your best!! The vulnerability that to share here makes you so real! I also forgot to mention that in the winter, I KZbin and find great vegetarian recipes to create for warm weather and try to learn as much as I can on things that interest me. I started this last year and I had a few medical problems, I then started to read and understand how to heal my problems with also the help of my doctor. So, I changed my eating habits, went more toward the vegetarian diet and started to exercise in the house by watching and do the exercises from KZbin. After about 6 months, I had my tests results completed by my doctor and all the four problems that I had, all are normal and I'm off of four pills a day. With just showing myself love and compassion and giving time to me I became well and in my early 70's there was hope for me to get better but in my situation and determination, I learned and prioritized myself without guilt, I now know that I come first and I take care of myself and everyone else comes second. Kids are grown and I focus on me so I could be healthy to help others in need. Thanks again Linda for all that you do!

Great video! Your right good things do happen unexpectedly, I was a divorced mom of three amazing children, I was determined never to get remarried, I lived in Bucks County Pa, everyday I passed these beautiful beautiful big homes and in the beginning I was envious, which turned into irritation with myself, then I started to say to myself good for them, I’m happy you have your beautiful home, (to myself of course), before I know it a year later I was engaged to a wonderful man, we moved to central PA and built a big beautiful home of our blended family. Moral of the story, don’t worry about what you don’t have and be grateful for what is good in your life, life will surprise you 😊.

I'm just holding on, and waiting for Spring. I go to different libraries weekly to take out books to read, and movie dvd's to watch. This seems to help pass the time a bit for me. Because of a totally unexpected health issue/ hospitalization I was forced to retire from my career earlier than I had wanted to. I loved my job, and miss it, but I am unable to return to my field of work. I took your advice and thought about what my 30 year old self would think of me today. All in all I would say that I'm doing okay, but in one very important area of my life my younger self would be very disappointed. She would say that she thought I was alot stronger than I turned out to be, and I would agree with this, but circumstances that I can't talk about have prevented me from being the strong woman I always thought I was. I'm not complaining, just stating a fact. Oh well, life goes on, and I will too.

Do you run the low stream of water from several faucets to keep the pipes from bursting? Im not sure if it helos but thats what the locals where I live tell me to do when the temp hits below freezing. I just took 5 days cold off of my regular work and enjoyed so many quiet self soothing days. Organizing, napping, planning, cooking, reading and thinking and talking to loved ones. All on repeat. These personal reflections are so appreciated and for me what winter is all about. Thank you 💞

Somehow I had missed that earlier video, but glad to enjoy it today. I lost power for 14+ hours here in Tualatin, Oregon,so packed up and went to stay with friend who fixed me a great dinner and indulged me so I could watch the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Miami Dolphins in weather that was cold and ugly!!! I had turned up the heat the night before at my condo because it was about 14 with freezing rain, and snow. We often get a layer of black ice under the snow so pretty treacherous for driving, but I just used my little old lady privilege of driving slow in my 1998 Buick Century which is like a little tank. She, Lady Anna, is dependable and gets me where I need to go when I need to go. Got home yesterday to toasty place. Now another ice storm is headed here by noonish tomorrow so I made lasagna for son and friends that he will deliver. I think you're amazing and glad to read other comments from folks who have also been inspired both in garden and life by you. What I tell myself during tough times is "this, too, shall pass" and it does💙🌷🌹💙

Thank you Linda for your honesty. I collect small jobs to do in the winter throughout the warm weather and I put them in a large box and then when it gets cold, I repair, paint, sew, organize, clean the top of my furniture during cold weather. I also volunteer my time to people that are less fortunate, lately I've been helping a woman in the neighborhood that just had a stroke so I go visit her and make her a meal, clean her house and keep her company for a few hours and when I leave her I feel so good. This kind of feel helps her and me to cope with crazy thoughts that start coming in the winter. This keeps me busy and distracted from being stressed. Thank you for all your videos!

Timely. I just called maintenance as my heating system has gone off. Your conversation was a perfect way for me to regroup. Thanks Linda. All the best with thawing the sinks, pipes and toilets. Loved seeing the Parlor flowers again.

Off topic but kind of not-enjoyed seeing the placement of things in your old house in contrast with where they are placed in your new one and also seeing it with fresh eyes as a look back with Sydney’s renovations, which are quite different but fabulous ❤️

Just finished watching this video, thank you, there are so many ways I relate to what you are saying. We must be kindred spirits. I too am in my 60s and have experienced very similair things in my life.

Catsup works great for shining silver. The acidity of the catsup doesn't take long to work. Lorraine

I am so sorry to hear about your frozen pipes - I understand how that can get you down. The older I get the more I dislike the extreme cold, spring can’t come quick enough. Enjoyed your video!

I had not thought about it but i will get up leaves that blow near backdoor and on patio. Remove large oak leaves from mulch and corners. I find i do it frequently. Gets me outside and always feel better. Snowing in Tennessee with cold temperatures but not as cold as your area. Stay safe.

I remember this video from the first time, but the ideas within are timeless. Thank you for sharing it again. I can't believe how cold it is there. I'm in RI and temps have been much higher - in the 30's today.
